Yup, folks, the cinematic sci-fi action game, Mass Effect, is on its way towards becoming a Hollywood cinematic sci-fi action movie. Legendary Pictures acquired the feature film rights to the Mass Effect franchise and is already in discussions with the screenwriter of I Am Legend and Thor to pen the screenplay. But wait, there are even bigger names jumping in on this one.

According to the announcement, the BioWare Doctors/co-founders, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, as well as Mass Effect executive producer, Casey Hudson, will serve as executive producers for the movie alongside film veterans Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avi and Ari Arad. You may recognize those last two names as the gents working on the film adaptations of Uncharted, Infamous and Lost Planet.

"At BioWare, we?ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture," said Casey Hudson. "With Legendary and Avi and Ari Arad attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans."

Granted, it's going to be a while before we see ANYTHING about the Mass Effect movie, if it ever happens, though it's already got us tickled. Will Commander Shepherd be male or female? Better yet, will he/she be renegade or paragon?? At least we know who will play Miranda. What are your thoughts, ME fans?

Intresting... either this becomes great or becomes an epic fail.

So where is that Halo movie thats been in the works for years?

*Edit*
Not many people that have quoted me have gotten the point of this post. What I mean by this post is that I bet you that soon as they announced that a Halo Movie was coming out people on here were like OMFG HOLY SH*T but it was never made. There may be a bunch of people that are supposedly in on this but weren't there a bunch of people originally in on the Halo movie as well? Like SERIOUSLY has Hollywood EVER not disappointed? If someone were to post something about a Mass Effect movie to be ACTUALLY FILMING or a place where someone can TRY OUT to be an extra then we have something. Until then its just a rumor no matter how many people we have "working" on this movie. We shouldn't grasp at straws when it comes to a movie about a game that you love. I mean I have heard rumors for a LONG time about a Bioshock movie but you don't see me posting every little thing about it when all they are are rumors. Give me 100% solid proof and I will bite. I haven't seen the Prince of Persia movie yet but I am hoping that one doesn't destroy all hope I have in Video Games being made into Movies.

As with all games that have had movies made from them, they are either really good or really bad. This I am looking forward to though.

Dislike...don't see how a movie can do Mass Effect better than the games do

So a movie with intolerable amounts of dialogue :/
It'll be the West Wing meets Star Trek

I would actually like to see this happen. Mass Effect actually has a story that goes beyond the standard sci-fi setting that even most movies are afraid to cross.

Ho, boy. I'm sure we all know how this one goes. Say it with me:
"Film adaptations of video games are never as good as the games."

Part of the fun of Mass Effect is the players own personal twist to the story. The story is good enough to be made into a movie but I think people will notice something just doesn't feel right when Sheperd isn't as they depicted.

A valid point, most game to films never even get beyond someone buying the rights, let alone an actual movie.

But hey, if their is the illusive man played by martin sheen, assume i'll buy a cinemas worth of tickets myself. hint hint.

Reason 1: It will discard the free-form story of the games and follow a set storyline, essentially saying "this character is canon" and thus disregarding the games.
Technically the default Manshep is already 'canon'. That's why he's the one who shows up in all the trailers on on the box art.

It got scrapped and they made District 9 instead.
They are going to make Shepard a Paragon white male soldier aren't they? And they're going to have him be played by that hideous model default male Shepard is based on aren't they?

NOOOOOO! I guess it can't be all bad with several of the actual game staff working on it but still, NOOOOOOO! I think a movie is the entire wrong direction Mass Effect should take, I envisioned a miniseries, you can have all the action without having to distill it down to 2 hours. (Once more, with feeling) NOOOOOOOOO!

It's already pretty much a friggin movie! ;-;

If this really happens, I hope they get someone who is a good writer and producer to give it justice.
