As with all games that have had movies made from them, they are either really good or really bad. This I am looking forward to though.
Like what? I've never seen a single one that doesn't suck horribly.

I don't see this being any good. It took hours in-game to establish the setting. Unless the first hour consists of Tali explaining the tedious details of quarian society, nobody who didn't play the games is going to know what's going on. Star Trek had the advantage of being much more mainstream, and even that was generic sci-fi action slop.

What might actually work is a movie about the First Contact War: humanity discovering the mass relays and getting attacked by turians. Then the setting would be revealed through humanity's eyes, and it wouldn't feel like the audience was getting dropped into something. Not to mention the first movie always has to be an origin story.

This will probably turn out horribly.

But you know what? If there's a Quarian sex scene, it'll all be worth it.

[sub]Yeah, I have issues, I know.[/sub]

They could do a prequel. I'm sure the First Contact war could make a good movie. If done right.

And that there, is the biggest hurdle. To do it right.

Yeah but didn't the first contact war only last like a day or something. It was more of a skirmish then anything else, and the humans were the aggressors weren't they?

Maybe I'm my alien vs human war stories mizxed up though, but I swear it wasn't really that huge of a war.
According to the codex and the way it was described in game, it lasted a while and the Turians took over a whole planet.

There were plenty of battles, and in the second DLC for Mass Effect, the last simulation had you fighting Turians during the war, which leads me to believe the Turians landed troops on the planet.

Plus it ended with a large human fleet coming in, fighting the Turian fleet, and winning.

So yeah, there's plenty of material there for a movie.

Whoops I got ninja'd. Yeah, the First Contact War went down basically how you described. The Alliance fleet swooped in and drove off the turians. The turians were about the prepare a massive counter attack when the Citadel stepped in and stopped the conflict. And that's how humanity got introduced to the rest of the galaxy.

First question, who's the director?

Second question, who the fuck is the director?

A good or bad director can make as much difference as light and day...=/

So where is that Halo movie thats been in the works for years?
Who gives a fuck.
WHO GIVES A FUCK!!

I'm pretty sure Hollywood hasn't forgotten about that serious considering it's popularity with gamers. If they can make a ME movie they can make Halo...=)

I've only played ME once, I got to the first action part and decided that the game was rather boring. Due to that, the movie will be either boring, a huge let down, or some other bad thing that I'm too lazy to come up with (aside from the fact that ME's core path is kind of chosen by the player, the character is made by said player [grizzled, brown haired guy or grizzled, brown haired girl] and the fact that quite a few "RPGs"[or third person shooters rather *cough cough*] would not make a good movie).

*sighs* I guess it was inevitable. I hope Shep is female; I doubt Shep will be though, but I hope that is how they make the movie. I wonder how the story will unfold. I won't get my hopes up for it though, considering how good most game to movie adaptions are.

My natural instinct is to condemn it to eternal damnation in hell. But they could do some really amazing things with lighting and character development in this.

If it's like the books and expands on the story, I am 100% for it. If it's a direct adaptation of the game story... I will hate it because they'll use the Male Shepard and I can't stand Male Shepard. The game is already like an epic, interactive 30 hour movie so I don't see a need to turn it into a 2 1/2 hour mediocre movie.

I have to agree with some of you. Maybe the movie will be about the first contact war between the humans and the turians. That is one part of the universe that hasn't really been explored very much. Bioware also has made it quite clear that Shepards story only takes place in the games. A good example of this is the books they have absolutely nothing to do with Shepard, and are still really good.

no no no NO!! Bioware how could you? there is absolutely no way you could successfully translate the majority of a 30+ hour game into a 2 hour movie, add to that the fact all video game adaptations have and will suck, ensuring that it will tarnish the franchise. WHY Bioware!?

I would actually like to see this happen. Mass Effect actually has a story that goes beyond the standard sci-fi setting that even most movies are afraid to cross.
Yes, the Bioware forums are full of people saying it will suck and they will never watch it, but I for one can't wait. If it actually goes through, that would be crazy.

A movie based on a game where you choose who you love, how you act and how the character looks, including gender. I assume they will choose one of the ones they made themselves but I have no idea how they are going to act or the love interest. I don't know what to think of this. It will either be amazing and well thought out, or it will be awful. I hope they don't ruin my favorite science fiction video game.

Mass Effect is already a movie. Cut out the subtitles and the speech decision parts, add a few different camera angles in combat, and you got it.

This.....could work.

But only if they make it as a movie, not as a game, if you know what I mean.

Also, they should hold a public vote on their website about whether it should be a man or a woman. Otherwise, people gonna be pissed.

Still, it's nice to see a game that ACTUALLY HAS A PLOT (glances at Far Cry and DOOM) being made into a film.

It will most likely fail, though.
I would honestly LOVE to see a female Shep, too many guys being the heroes, lets see some girls

If they do a prequel, whatever.

If they do decide to make a canon Shepard, however, I will be peeved. The whole thing reminds me of the time George Lucas derped on into Knights of the Old Republic and decided to make the PC a canon light sided male. JUST 'CAUSE, LOL! <3 george

Way to crap all over the fans of a game that was infinitely better than your prequels. Instituting a canon character in a game that is, more than anything, about *player choice* is silly. If you want a canon character, make one in the first place. If you're going to let me have a choice and you advertise your product that way, it's a little more than rude to pull the rug out from under me when I'm already attached to a character I've created, with you essentially pointing a finger and saying WRONG, THIS IS WRONG.

I've always been irritated that they show a male Shepard's face in every piece of advertising. They could just do what they did with Knights and have the cover be an awesome art work of your main compadres and the villain. If they were so focused on Sheploo, they could have just made it a game about, you know, John Shepard. Just seems a bit dumb to me.

But if it does come out I'll most likely rent it out of curiosity, regardless. Maybe I'll get a huge giggle fit out of the experience like I did with Doom. :)
