Aaaaand HD remakes have officially crossed 'the line.'

Paying $30-$60 for a 'remastered' game with slightly shinier looks and a larger scope to fit on modern TV's was acceptable. It was bullshit - given how little work was done to most of them (most just adding what was equivalent to a texture pack mod that any modder could have offered you), but hey. Fine. New generation of people enjoying a previous generation of games. It'd be nice if they took the opportunity to fix some issues (like Metal Gear Solid 2's god awful controls), but whatever.

But Mass Effect? They aren't offering anything of value with a Mass Effect HD remake. The game already runs perfectly at HD resolutions. Its perfectly playable with no black bars or issues. It's not introducing Mass Effect to a new audience either - anyone who has interest in Mass Effect can still pick up Mass Effect and play them all. On their native consoles. And what would the fans get for their purchase? Is spending $60 on a franchise you already own and have beaten really worth it for some shinier textures and some DLC?

I mean, cmon. There are better places to allocate those resources.
Save game backwards compatibility. Seriously the whole reason to play the entire series.
Its been stated before that Mass Effect 4 will have nothing to do with Shepard. The way they'll probably pull that off is by having the setting be either drastically before or after the events of Mass Effect 3, making all our choices moot.

And, even if our decisions do matter, telling people they have to re-purchase their entire franchise and play through the three games again to have their outcomes to crossover is not going to fly with a vast majority of players. That's a really good way to alienate the series core fans.

Especially when, I dunno, BioWare could simply make an App for the current gen systems that saves your Mass Effect data to an EA server (or the cloud), and use that as a way of importing your save data. Even if they made that feature cost $10, thats a MUCH better pill to swallow then $30-$60 PLUS 60+ hours of playtime on content you've already played.

I thought alienating their core fans was BioWare's primary objective after EA purchased them. :p

can't they just remaster the whole damn thing so that at least the file transfers actually work this time???

also, a lot of the "consequences" events and flags got botched, so if they could go back and fix those that would be great

I'd be delighted to see this come out for PS4 as a full trilogy - remastered is a bonus for me - as my PS3 is getting a bit on the wonky side and I still enjoy replaying these games. So, when my PS3 dies out (which is inevitable at this point I believe, nothing lasts forever) I can move over to PS4 without hesitation of leaving favorite games behind. I hope more companies follow suit too, for some of the great titles of this past generation, because the current generation came a bit quickly on the heels of some really nice releases I feel like I'll be losing access to by converting.

I'm not usually one to indulge in the 'glorious PC gamer master race' claptrap, but if they just bought it on PC they could run it in the highest resolution possible and not have to worry about being left without a favourite game when they purchase a new rig.

Update the graphics, include all of the DLC and release it on PS4 and I would absolutely buy it day one.

Its pretty interesting. Not sure if its for me since I've played all of the games and most of the DLC, but the option is intriguing. I suppose it all depends on how much work is actually put into it. ME1 seems like that'll be the one that needs more spit shine on it graphics wise, and I have no idea how easy/hard that would be. And what about all the DLC? One would think they would be included, but if not then its sort of not worth it. Would they add other little things/fixes to what was already present? Who knows how much manpower would be needed to do this stuff considering they are already working on the next series of Mass Effect games.

Again, the idea itself isn't bad, and I'm sure some people will appreciate it (hell, some people might buy the games again). But it all hinges on what/how much it would offer, which we don't know. Pretty much comes down to a wait and see approach.

If it comes with all the DLC on disc, then I'll pick it up.

If it's anything like the trilogy collection available now (which has next to none of the DLC) I'll give it a miss.
This.

One of the main reasons why I didn't pick up the original HD trilogy was because it didn't have all of the DLC available... I mean, even GOTY version of games have a way of acquiring all of the DLC in some way...

OT: Call it the "Definitive Edition" (like what happened to Tomb Raider), include all of the DLC, and fix up some of the issues in the first game... and then, we'll talk about me giving you my money...

After reading through all the replies I was intent on commenting. Then I read this and figured I'd have to think up something else to say. For the most part the whole DLC would improve the value of such a trilogy/remake. But otherwise I too own all parts of the game. The DLC I do have for Mass Effect is as follows:

ME #1: Bring down the Sky and Pinnacle Station. IIRC neither of these cost anything, but when I got the game the download wasn't functional. A trip to Bioware forums got me the link and working patch. BdtS is kinda interesting while Pinnacle is just a survival mode and time attack. Never finished so can't say I know the prize for winning.

ME #2: I got several downloads for weapons and skins via playing Dragon Age and Facebook following. I know there are other DLC, but can't recall what at this time.

M3 #3: A few DLC packs mostly with items, and the multiplayer things. I think I took part in some events for them. Haven't touched the missions.

Origin uses the credits rather than money, but it would cost 4000 (1200, 1200,800, 800) to get the remaining items. You get 1600 credits for $20, and 1200 for $15. So $50 for all the ME3 mission/expansion DLC. (the rest of the DLC are weapons for Multiplayer and skins for about 480) Getting a bundle wouldn't be so bad if that's included.

I guarantee you that textures and lighting from the modding community will easily surpass any sub-1080p "HD" re-release for PS4/Xbone.

PS4 games are at 1080p, it's the XBO that has been having issues with it and been using 720p for CoD Ghost etc.

OT: If it has all the DLC I may pick it up, I've got the games on PC but I wouldn't mind a console version to lay back and enjoy on my TV, esp if it comes with all the DLC.

I already bought these bloody things twice; Xbox360 and then for PC (I ended up selling my 360) so I'm not gonna do this a third time. I'm sure I can get mods for them to make them look better.

That said, I'd happily drop coin on a newer version of ME1 that didn't have several defects in it and a cover/firing system that doesn't suck arse. You can even keep the bullshit inventory and insane skill point progression - just make covering and shooting work properly you goons.

I would prefer proper controller support in the PC version.
Which you won't ever get because the UI for all three is drastically different between the Console and PC versions.

These remasters might actually be the only way to get Controller Support for the PC versions, presuming they do such a re-release.

EAware is shit now. Most of the original devs of bioware are gone, even the creators of BW are gone. It's nothing but a shitty division of EA now. Bioware has been dead a long time now.The last good RPG to come out of there was DA:O, ME1 was the only good ME game story wise.

I also refuse to buy anything to do with EA. Started since DA2, wasted $60 on utterly pure cow shit. "downloaded" ME3, found it was crap as well, a shitty gears of war with a crap plot.

You console peasants can have your fun with this garbage. There are much better games available and coming out than anything EAware will release. Cyberpunk, Witcher3 will be better than anything EAware can produce.

I'm tired of seeing remakes of games that have outlived their welcome. Think of something new for this generation, don't become like the movie industry and resort to rehashes and remakes of classics.
