Is it just me, or are Bioware in serious danger of creating another halo situation when they come around to making their third game? Judging from the way the second mass effect game was quite heavily hyped up, after the relatively unknown entry of the first game, I can definitely see similarities.

I mean, the third halo game was so massively marketed and hyped up that everyone and their nan's had at least some idea about halo, and most couldn't wait to get their hands on halo 3 (myself included, even though I hadn't played the first and second games)- which was a shame because anything with that much pre-release attention was bound to disappoint at least some people. And Halo 3 has a LOT of naysayers, especially round these parts!

it's not just the way mass effect 2 got sucked into the hype machine either- the story and gameplay seem to be following the halo route as well. I mean, gameplay has been improved on in the sequel, which is definitely a plus point, even though the RPG element was pretty much shot in the back and left for dead (hopefully they'll get the gameplay spot on in the third one, just like Halo did with Halo 3).

Story wise, yes it's not really anything like halo, other than being a 'space epic yay', but after the well told story in the first game, like halo, something seemed to be missing in the second-

There were a few plot holes that just seemed sloppy, especially after setting out the universe in such a wonderful manner in the 1st, and come on- a human reaper?? WTF bioware, really copped us out with that one! sure it's epic but it makes as much sense as an african nation in the winter olympics!!

So yer, does anyone else think Mass Effect 3 will turn out in a similar manner to Master Chief's final chapter? Do you think it will be a big ole lump of disappointment, or will Bioware keep it cool and deliver the masterpiece of reaper-ass kicking that Sheperd deserves?

Relatively unknown entry of the first game? That thing was hyped up the rear!
As for the Human reaper, it gives justification for the reaping, and it means that all the reapers we have seen so far are last generation reapers, because they are nothing but space squids and the protheans were just squid faced humanoids.

I do not appreciate your suggestion that Africans can not do well in the Winter Olympics. Goddamnit, while it's a different country did Cool Runnings teach you anything?

It was Halo 2 that was disappointing; 3 wasn't great, but it was at least an improvement. Since Mass Effect 2 turned out great, I'm not that worried. Besides, it's entirely possible for a game to be overhyped and still not suck.

Or am I missing some point in your post?

Jamaica is in the Caribbean, not Africa. Also, the actual Jamaican bobsled team came in dead last and then retired to promote alcoholic beverages.

Did you read my post? I said it's a different place altogether. In addition, if they retired to promote booze I think they were the real winners anyway.

Your point is invalid.

I have hopes that Bioware will take the advice that many fans (including me) have been leaving on their forums. MORE RPG ELEMENTS!!! Anyway, it will be awesome and perfect... I hope.

I'm reminded of the stolen pixels comic

but nah, I don't think it the like wild and crazy adventures of the chief. You can always see something out of nothing, doesn't mean it's true

*wipes away tear* John Candy must be rolling over in his oversized grave.

OT: come on, it's Bioware. Look at their track record. Then examine Bungie's.

They know what they're doing.

Didn't Bungie make the Myth series before they sucked at the teet of mediocrity? Those were pretty good games.

lol, but they were a jamaican team, and we all know jamaican's are in a league of their own!! I'm not discounting a sequel though, where nigeria ski-jump their way to victory!

btw Im not saying trilogies rip off halo, Im not even saying mass effect has, it just occurred to me that there are quite a few similarities between the two. I think we'd know if it was a bastardisation of the Halo trilogy if in the third one shepard gets replaced by a 10ft super soldier called Blaster Teeth xD

Mass Effect 3 will get hyped up to no end. thats just basic economics folks. It might be 2 years from now, but they will have to hope that ME 3 sells like hot cakes, EA is quite honestly in some dire straits financially speaking.

Having said that, I think ME 3 will live up to any hype it gets. Why? Look at ME 2. Hyped up to no end, and in my opinion came through in spades. Massive improvement in almost everything. Not to mention, Bioware has made it very clear that they listen to us. We bitched about so much in Mass Effect 1 and they busted their asses to try and make it better for us. Who's to say they won't listen to what few gripes we have with Mass Effect 2 and try and improve even more? I think its safe to say that Mass Effect 3 will blow our minds (in a good way).

I'll take your word on that; never played them. But look at the time between the original Myth and Halo 2 (arguably the beginning of the end for Bungie). That was about seven years, give or take. At that rate, we've got quite a while before Bioware starts to slide.

I've actually heard an explanation for your plot hole

Since Sovereign was killed, there were no reapers left in the galaxy to activate the citadel and allow the Reapers to quickly jump into the galaxy and commence the harvesting. The reapers decided to create another one by putting their Collectors to work, since other species wouldn't find it that rare that the Collectors were abducting and since humanity was one of the few races making isolated colonies in the unexplored and dangerous Termanious system. The number of humans abducted compared to the total number of beings in the galaxy would be the equivalent of a small village of about 20 or so people in some remote place vanishing. It was actually a more perfect plan than I've seen in most other videogames in terms of Armageddon being unleashed.

well the story certainly didn't seem as good to me as the first one, but it wasn't exactly a disappointment; it still shits all over most games and there 'compelling storylines'.

Im just wondering what everyone elses thoughts are on this. imo, it doesn't help that there'll be a thousand different expectations for no.3, I hope bioware doesn't crack under the pressure. course their track record is pretty damn good so heres hoping!
