Man, I never got Mass Effect either. It seems just lame to me. I felt that it had a really linear storyline and boring gameplay. But, whatever. We all ahve our oppinions.

I'm going to board the outrage-train at that "similar to Halo" remark.

Just because it has guns and aliens it is NOT similar to Halo.

Most of these points have been covered already, but they deserve reiterating. Mass Effect has beautiful graphics, an amazing storyline, incredible voice acting, well-written NPC's, humour, drama...

You know what? Just play the damn game. Don't expect it to be like Halo, because it isn't.

I've tried many times to get into Mass Effect but have yet to succeed. I find it too slow and quite overwhelming when you haven't played for so long. Its a bit of a shame as i do love Bioware, hopefully Dragon Age will keep me satisfied.

Also having the common reload button for most shooters being mapped by default as the grenade button IS FUCKING ANNOYING!
Out of curiosity, what are you playing the game on? If 360, I have yet to find a shooter that uses the back button at all, if not to check scores. I don't know the keys for the PC.
PC Version, R is very common for reload in most shooters.

Was quite funny when i was hammering it when i started playing again and didn't realize that my rifle had overheated.
Oh, good, I'm not the only one who does that.

I'll admit, something about the feel of the game, it really hit me on Ilos, the music, the art direction, the lighting, it really does feel kinda like the Marathon games, particularly Marathon 2: Durandal. I guess if you've never played the Marathon games, Halo could be the next logical jump.

Keep at it. Mass Effect is for players who like to really immerse themselves in a game. Be prepared to put some time into it. Personally, I found it quite fun, especially since I got it for 25% of the retail price. Seriously though, it gets a lot better about 1hr. or so into the game.

The universe and story are downright awesome, if a bit hackneyed. Characters and their development are all awesome too. Extremely well-written game.

If only they'd made the gameplay not suck.

Tell you the truth, I don't really like the story of Mass Affect . The character you play as can have 2 personality, both suck. You can be a evil alien hating ass, or peace loving dick who shoots people.

I didn't really like the game. I got to one of the first planets once you get the normandy and ALMOST beat it. but I saved before the conversation with the boss. and I had no health. =(

If you can't see the difference between Halo and Mass Effect you are, no offense, kinda dense.

Conversation system, character creation, third-person perspective, truly-engaging story... those are just some of the things Halo does not have that Mass Effect does have.

I'm sorry, but comparing Mass Effect to Halo is akin to comparing a Thanksgiving dinner with undercooked tripe.

Though yes, the first mission does kinda suck.
