Massive Prototype Plot Holes

This may have been brought up before, as Prototype came out a year ago, but Yahtzee's recent article reminded me of it. Also, though i'll try to avoid it, there may be SPOILERS up in.

So at one point in the story missions of Prototype, you get a call from a mysterious contact. The issue with this is that you get it by walking up to a random phone box and grabbing the cell phone underneath it. Honestly, it would be impossible to find without the map marker hovering over the thing, and nobody ever even mentions why you know about this phone box. I figured that I had missed a cutscene somehow, but other friends playing had the same experience. It's not the only time a sudden jump happens either, like how about the mysterious disappearance of your sister and the doctor you entrust her to? Does Mercer simply cease to care about the woman he just spent two missions rescuing? Overall it was a fun game, but the sudden jumps in Mercer's story line and personality were confusing to say the least. Any help out there?

The story has plot holes?

Yeah, there are a lot of things in prototype that don't really make sense in my opinion.

Yeah, but I don't care, it's not exactly the best game if you want story, it's all about the stuff that makes it a game. Ya'know, gameplay.

It's like in a film, when a couple meet they won't film each other giving their phone numbers, instead they'll show the guy calling the girl a day or so later. The specifics were probably talked out not in game or in cutscene. there's a lot of unaccounted for time between missions and memory phases. It happens with mass effect, even though you never leave shepherd's side he somehow finds time to write up reports on the missions you take part in, as the council makes clear during your comm chats with them.

Like kicking down a helicopter?

I mean, come an, I know he got powers, but to kick a fucking helicopter down is just silly
That's not silly.

Just physically impossible without weighing more than a car.

Duh.

I always found it strange that there wasn't a single military trooper that new that there was a hangar-ship with a fekking nuke next to manhattan.

And fighting against the huge monsters is just stupid. You're guaranteed to only use long-distance attack or jump-slam attacks.

Maybe he consumed someone who knew about the phone? I dunno, the plot isn't exactly a selling point of prototype.

Prototype's story pretty much went in the shitter after about 4 missions. Granted, it was one of my GOTY, but I was more driven by the massive amount of destruction and pain I was able to inflict.

Which was shit too, so not very good all-in-all.

OT: Before I actually got bored of the game as a whole (which wasn't very long), I got bored of the story, so I just skipped every cutscene.

Those that I watched were poorly acted, often useless and shit all-round.

Well dude, that's just your opinion.

For me, it was a release from all those sophisticated games, where you just killed people for fun.

The thing is they would usually let you see the consume cutscene, and it doesn't really make sense for someone to know about a secret phone call to mercer.

I know, it's just that the game was really fun, and I don't think the plot was that bad. I guess the only thing that annoyed me was how glaring the plot holes were, and how easy they would be to fix. It just seems like they forgot to finish.

especially if you include his powers and the fact that he can't die.

Oh I get that, but I just feel that the game is rated too highly because of that. As if its purpose of not being serious means that it doesn't need to be properly polished.

It's also a complete oxymoron - a story that takes itself far too seriously, combined with mindless gameplay (and not the good kind of mindless for me).

Obviously that's just my opinion (I'm the one who said it, after all).
