It would be pretty epic if in WoW, hundreds of mini Lich Kings rain down across the world, destroying everything..... 'Twould be awesome.

(More MMO's need EPIC endings!)

That would have been fun.

I find it wierd that a company would turn its failure into something that people can enjoy. Most companies wouldn't waste anymore time or money on a dying project. It is like putting firecrackers on a dying plant. It may seem entertaining but from a business standpoint it is a waste of firecrackers.
Maybe the developers opted for it to make it remembered more and EA obliged.

It makes me wonder how would World of Warcraft go out, if it ever came to that point.
No need for Blizzard to program some kind of apocalpyse or anything for that game. The real world would burn in nerd rage.

I somehow doubt that, considering that the only way WoW would be killed would be by a better game... And I suspect that it will likely made by Blizzard, ironically enough. Meh; only time will tell.

Always sad to see an MMO go, even if I never did have a subscription with MxO. I never quite caught me, but I knew a few people with fond memories of the game, and I heard some pretty epic stuff about their in-game events in the past, and I've met a few people who worked as GMs.

At least if it had to go out, it did so with a bang: props for that. No sense in quietly shutting down - might as well get some closure!

The open Beta to WoW did something like this. Not very epic, though. Just level 60 demon mobs spawning at all cities... *Shrug* I assume they'll do something more epic when the game goes down for real.

Anyway, this sounds pretty cool, though it's somehow a bit melancholic.

Funny enough, MXO was the only MMO I ever tried. I grabbed it on sale one day on a whim cause I was huge matrix fan at the time. I believe this was before SOE took it over. It was just a giant 'meh' for me, but then again I'm not into MMO's anyways. The combat was great but the interface was terrible. Alot of the novelty wore off fast for me. A few of my friends still badger me to play WOW, maybe someday I'll give it a shot.

And theres the problem with MMOs, ten years from now, no one will be able to pick up a copy of tabula rasa or matrix online to see what the fuss is all about. I'm glad they had fun with the end of the world, though.

Can anyone tell me if someone is operating an America Online Neverwinter Nights server? THATS an MMO i'd love to play again.
Meh if some cared enough to crack it and run their own server, I think MMO's are missing a opportunity in self run servers, charge 130$ for it and a normal game and use normal authentication to to ping the pub sever to make sure the consumer sever and clients are legit, it beats trying to take on everything yourself and piracy will crack it regardless there of.

But alas innovation and even quality is a rarity in mass market goods....

Well this was nice of them, though I'd rather see them improving their MMOS rather than driving them to failure *cough* Star Wars Galaxies *cough* damn NGE *cough*.

There's some speculation that with such low server populations SOE didn't want to pay to renew the Matrix license. I can see that theory holding water, seeing as Planetside still lives.

That's actually pretty cool. More MMOs should do this kind of thing (I'm thinking of a good April Fools joke for WOW subscribers.)
This would be great but the amount of suicides by pringles and cola would be tragic/awe inspiring. It would be like the last days of Rome..............actually it would be NOTHING like the last days of Rome.

I think it's a great way to end a game but I'm also glad the wankyness of the Matrix is finally dead and buried. I liked the films but sometimes there is such thing as too much.

That's pretty cool! I wish my old games could die like that, but instead they just sorta go away... a shame really

Allow me to reverse the polarity of the phrasing here, as it is essentially my sentiment in the negative.

It is refreshing to see a company investing in the consumer even though it is terminating service. They had nothing to gain doing it this way, especially in letting previous players resume for free, but they did it anyway as a service to the players. In a way, it does make some business sense, as investing in the customer tends to garner referred and repeat customers.

Good form, SOE. RIP Matrix Online.

Also, unless unused or not watched, there is no such thing as a waste of firecrackers.

you know, its a damn shame this died. I love The Matrix franchise, the games weren't half bad. And when I bought Revolutions it came with a disc telling me about this game, i searched for weeks on end looking for information about it and found nothing, wasn't in stores, it didn't exist in my experience cause I regretfully could never find it.

I probably would've enjoyed walking down a street only to be ambushed by an Agent.

Well that sucks! I've never even heard of the game and now it's shut down.

All well, sad to hear but that apocalypse event will be something for everyone to remember.
