Silent Hill 2 is a mature game that displays mature themes and mature storytelling. Not everything is spelled out for the player and it usually takes a couple of hours to process what you saw after you finished the game (in an intellectual and emotional level).

I read that article too. I love GR.

Anyway, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4. There's more, but i don't care right now
Bah, I forgot about CoD4! I thought about adding Assassin's Creed, but I still can't get past that stupid ending. But that aside, yes it does do the whole 'mature game that is actually mature' well.

Arkham Asylum. Where does insanity end and evil begin? Who is more insane, the people formerly locked up in it or the man dressed as a bat who went to the extreme of putting a second base of operations there? Is Batman's one rule (No Killing) hurting his attempt to fight crime more than helping to show that life is sacred, no matter who it is?

The Brothers in Arms games are the only ones that come to mind. The story is more about the developments of the characters. The one's that are left after Normandy and Market Garden dealing with the stress of being leaders and soldiers and the cost of the war. SSgt Matt Baker the protaganist spends the series dealing with what it means for him to be a squad leader. "I never asked to be squad leader" is one of the first pieces of dialouge in the first game and SSgt Baker continuously ponders throughout the series, "What makes a great soldier? Is it his head or his heart?" The rest of the soldiers deal with their own issues in various ways and end up splitting up into two factions based on which squad leader they like most ala Platoon. Its a game that I personally play not to kill Nazis like I've done a thousand times before, but to see what happens to the characters. I would like to see the series conclude properly because I want to see who makes it and who doesn't, especially those I either really liked or despised.

Final fantasy 9, because for it's cute look it deals with some themes like the dealing with your own mortality, and knowing when to obey orders and when to question them.

I'd have to say Knights of the Old Republic 2. Read this [http://lparchive.org/Knights-of-the-Old-Republic-II/] LP for a more detailed explanation, but here's the simple version. A mature look at the Star Wars universe, which does not go the normal route of depicting the jedi as Jesus mixed with superman, but instead shows them as the reactionary, stubborn, dogmatic old men they would have to be. Add to that that they pulled off one of the only truly, 100% successful examples of a completely cryptic, wise old teacher character (with the twist that she lies ALL THE TIME), and you have an amazing game.
this my god this, you have taken the word right out of my mouth.

i am also going to add stalker because of its lonely atmosphere and the gameplay to match it
