Let me first clarify, I've nothing against videogames; I love them, and they are a part of my life just as my breakfast (I eat it sometimes, and sometimes I don't). But sometimes I do wish people would put down those controls and play some tabletop games. Ages ago, I spent countless hours playing risk: we renamed countries, altered the rules, created campaigns, and had great dreams of grandeur with those little plastic trinkets and 5 die (sometimes more). But because all of my friends are dickheads, no one wants to play risk, or monopoly, or even a goddamn game of uno.

I think when left to the imagination, the experience of playing a game is increased hundredfold, and the only reason I play videogames is because I'm too lazy to think of my own concepts for games. Does anyone wish sometimes that maybe videogames weren't such a great idea---or is it just me?

Board games are great. I do love Twilight Imperium, Puerto Rico, Carcassonne, Galaxy Trucker, Cosmic Encounter, holy shit there are some awesome board games out there.

Oh, I hate Monopoly and Risk. Monopoly is half an hour of "I want boardwalk" and 3 and a half hours of "Gotta pay the fucker that got Boardwalk."
Risk is like "You know you should probably be playing Axis and Allies or something, I mean really."

I grew up in Pakistan, I had no access to anything beyond Monoply, Uno, and a deck of standard cards. Video game consoles were cheap knock-offs and ALL the games were pirated. But I regret nothing.

well most board games i can play on the go on my itouch...so its a win win for me

i play chess/monopoly/risk all on it, and they all pause for me when i want to, so its really easy to pick the game up wherever i last left off

so no i dont miss board games at all...once i played axis and allies, risk went THE FUCK OUT THE WINDOW

Recently when coming back from an awesome holiday with 3 mates, we had about 7 hours to kill in the airport, I insisted we buy a travel game of monopoly. So we did, and we had some of the best fun of the whole trip during one epic 4 and a half hour game. I love monopoly, its way more fun than other board games and has some pretty good depth when you get into it. Coupled with 3 of your best mates it makes for an awesome time. Trouble is I don't know many people who have that time to waste regularly, its like nazi zombie, the juice stops being worth the squeeze. Great fun though for those special occasions.

Ugh, I'll take videogames any day over those cardboard rectangles of misery that caused so many family feuds...

Yeah, count me in with your dickhead friends. Never was into board games or card games. At all. The fact that people will watch Poker on TV blows my mind.

Heritic!!! Seariously though, I have sometimes gotten too absorbed into a game and set them off for a while for my reading and eating.

After a 3 straight hours of chess with my friend today, I was thinking the same thing. I had forgotten how much I love chess. The game challenges me on a level that video games never can. It's exciting, and most of all, it forces me to think.

After the chess marathon, we decided we're going to try to get some people into my basement for Risk. Having never played it before, I'm getting rather excited.

They both last about the same amount of time in each sitting for me, and depending on the games, some I like, some I don't with each. The only difference I see between them is that I can't play board games by myself, unless it's a video game adaption or something.

Well i think it would be quite normal for anyone who eats cereal for breakfast everyday to sometimes say "Hey why don't i try pancakes today?" same can be said for clubs, books, TV, women(joking). But some of us prefer and preservere on cereal as making pancakes can take more time or energy to prepare. I'm with cereal, though every now i do try playing old D&D games with friends

I like playing them with my friends who aren't interested in video games. Me and a couple good friends keep meaning to whip out the 3rd edition D&D board and at my friends birthday we spent an hour or two playing Apples to Apples, Flux and Talisman. (Disclaimer: Apples to Apples and Flux are card games)
