Hello everyone, I've just stumbled across this topic, I'm a new member and I've signed up just to add my two cents to the conversation.
I belong to the facebook group "100,000 strong for bringing back megaman legends 3", along with the vast majority of people who wish to organise to see this game become a reality, and while I'm not an admin or a leading member in any way, I'd like to address some of the issues I found in this thread. Firstly, we do not in any way shape or form, condone or support threats of violence against capcom or their staff or property. The group instructs people to keep a level head and in the words of our admins "stay classy at all times". There was a stern message sent out to the community regarding some of the disgusting threats sent out on capcom's stream and the vast majority of us were unhappy that they were said.
The vast majority of you guys in here seem to be megaman fans yourselves and appear to be up to date with the situation, it was not the cancellation of megaman legends 3 alone that set this whole thing off, as I'm sure your aware. The buisness decisions taken by capcom lately show a complete and utter disregard or even contempt for a large chunk of their fanbase. The part of their fanbase that turned them from a small time arcade company, into a total juggernaut.
I can understand where critics are coming from with regard to the legends series, the controls were clunky, the graphics were the first examples of 3D on the playstation and thus quite bad and the voice acting on the English version was horrible. But it had a gripping story, a well rounded cast of lovable characters and an indescribable feel to the game. If you asked a final fantasy fan what s/he loved about the older final fantasy games, he'd describe a similar sort of feeling.
So why were fans anticipating this so much? Because it gives much needed closure to a series that has been left on a cliffhanger for over 10 years. And with today?s technology, capcom can deliver a game that fixes all the issues critics had about the older games, we have analog sticks for controls, better graphics even on a hand-held, and much better compression technology that doesn't destroy voice recordings along with a much higher standard for acceptable voice acting.
So why are the fans angry with capcom, besides the cancellation of legends? Well:
- Cancellation of megaman universe with no reason given.
- Failure to reigonalize phoenix vs layton despite huge brand recognition for layton that would massively improve phoenix's standing in the us and europe territories.
- Failure to reigonalize monster hunter 3rd, dispite an already huge worldwide fanbase.
- DRM measures included in resident evil mercenaries 3D that prevents people from removing their save data, on a game with 1 save slot.
- Proceeding with their reboot of Devil may cry, despite a huge majority (over 75%) of fans objecting to dante's "new look".
- The changes made to the resident evil series, the games have had a different feel since the release of resident evil zero, with resident evil 4 and 5 feeling alot like they're piggybacking on the series. While these are still good games they lack something and stray too far from the traditional story.
- The re releasing of old titles. So far capcom are releasing their 4th version of street fighter 4, another version of marvel vs capcom 4 (announced less than 6 months after the original's release), and another version of resident evil code veronica, the third time this title has been released. The fans feel this time could be better spent giving them what they actually want to buy.
- The failure to include megaman in any of his incarnations in MvC3, despite him winning a poll on who fans would like to see in the game.
- The complete removal of Darkstalkers, Breath of fire and Viewtiful joe from their line-ups.
Plus many other smaller issues, lies and slights.
With regard to the post about emotional connectivity to the series. Now I've personally been playing megaman games since I was a small child, my first console was a NES and my first game was megaman 2. I was destroying robot masters before I could write my own name, with such a strong early link to the games is it really a surprise that someone like me could have a strong emotional connection with the series?
