Exorcism is real, but it can be hard from distincting a demonic possession from mental illness sometimes. We are only human after all.

I didn't realize exorcisms still happened nowadays. I thought people were smarter than that.

Can you smell that? That's the smell of the 21st century right there. Just shows that human kind really hasn't changed that much since, say the Stone Age.

I actually thought Buddhism was more a more sensible religion, overall, than that. Apparently I was wrong.

Nope, they're done everywhere in almost any religion. Just not on the scale, luckily, as they did, say, two centuries ago.

It's always nice to see someone religious on these forums that's not afraid to voice their opinions. I too believe that demon possession is possible, (I'm Christian) but I also believe that 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of all cases of believed demon possession are mistakes (there might be a few) and are actually mental illness, and the parents are just really desperate, and that the person performing the exorcism is an probably a (well intentioned) idiot. Having said all that I'd just like to say, Good luck to ye on this thread!

And remember Parents : Always COMPLETELY exhaust Medication and hospitalization before even letting the very notion of the supernatural creep into your mind, and remember if doctors can't help it's probably still mental illness, they're doctors not God.

I'm an atheist, and you opinion is one I really respect. You believe in demons but understand that that doesn't mean that every report of them is true.

Happened her in Australia a few years back as well, except that method involved pouring alternatively freezing cold or boiling hot water down the victim's throat.

Exorcism is a relic of an era when fictitious "demons" were blamed for problems we now know are caused by bacteria, genetic disorders and various other natural factors.

1. If you remove 90% of the 9's in your uber statistic, there would not be one reason to believe a demonic possession had ever occurred. Especially since the belief comes from a time where we did not have modern science to help us.
2. No, they don't. That's the whole problem. Millions and millions of people to this day are brainwashed enough by their religion to believe this nonsense before they believe what a doctor tells them.
1. I was making a statement about the improbability of demon possession

2. Sorry about that I forgot a bit punctuation it should be fixed by now also if you look at the context of what I said it should pretty clear what I meant.

And they're not brainwashed they're scared. I have two siblings who are sociopaths (my family never thought demons were involved) and it can pretty fucking scary around them especially when they're willing to straight up murder you because they weren't allowed outside.

For fuck sake. Exorcism is an utterly redundant belief that was used a long side smashing open people skulls to release bad juju.

People just need to accept that no amount of religious chanting or clergymen sutra's are going to help. Because... Y'know... They never have... Ever.

Every time they have 'succeeded' was not because of the chant, but because it was probably the proper procedure in the freaking first place. For example, when priests used holy water on wounds, and they wouldn't get infected. They thought that was a miracle due to gods blessing on the water. But it freaking wasn't. The water just cleaned the wound! And if it didn't clean the wound, they sneakily didn't mention that it it was just ordinary water infested with cholera.

If you read the article you would see that Buddhists do use that ritual HOWEVER it's not an exorcism ritual .... it's used for wishes, and not while bound to a chair by a pair of numpty's.

A spokesperson for the Nakayamashingoshoshu's (a sect of Buddhism) main temple in Kiyama said: ?The water rite is done to bring one's wishes to reality, but of course you cannot exorcise with it. We also do not instruct to bound the arms and legs when doing the ritual.?
