Meh, Mercenaries never struck me as particularly involved. I skipped the first one, and I'll probably skip this too. Not because it looks bad, it just doesn't catch my attention in anyway. I can blow stuff up in a lot of games.

I played the first one with a friend, and while he thought it was prefection itself (and eagerly awaits the next one) I thought it was ok, not bad, not great. Average, a sandbox game with its only unique feature being that it isn't set in a city and your missions are for a military contractor rather than your local gang (sign up today for GTA!).

I normally don't like sandbox games anyway so I'll probably only get Mercs 2 if I find it cheap or if someone else wants to give it to me for free.

I've never tried it but I saw the trailer today... I laughed my ass off at the music.

I don't really know anything about the Mercenary series, so, well, I'm not really worrying about it, heh

I'll rent it. After my two weeks are up, I should have all the explosion giddiness out of my system and I'll be content not to play it again. On the offchance that it's a really well-designed game that's fun beyond the mindless destruction, I'll be sure to pick it up.

The weapons seem to be every bigass gun you think of, and every bigass vehicle you can think of.
Did anyone else think the first one was just a sub-par third person shooter with an alright-at-times story to hold it all together? Let me know if you agree or disagree, I'd like to hear your opinions either way.
I want the game, but moreso for the reason yahtzee loves painkiller than any game with actual substance that I want. You can have them drop a fucking monster truck in the game or even a nuke, totally fucking awesome. Don't expect a good story as much as one that makes the drunken fratboy in you feel awesome.

Since when can you call up carpet bombing and artillery strikes in GTA?! Seriously though, I think the "destruction on demand" (to steal a phrase from The Outfit) was probably the coolest thing about the game. Also, I kinda liked the extra challenge of trying to capture, as opposed to just blowing up, the Officers. The seperate "boss" missions were also pretty cool as well. Mercenaries had alot of potential so I hope they take advantage of that in the sequel because I did enjoy the first.

Oh I'm just excited because of a few things:

1.) MODS

2.) The first one was very "sub-par" as you said, but it wreaked of potential, and now that the second one is coming and from what I've seen, looks like a MAJOR improvement from the first.

They "fixed what was broken"

the first one was a great game.
even though a lot of the mechanics where just decent and most of the game was kinda good the thing that made it great was fluid combat vehical control. NPC verse NPC fighting (although minimal it is there). and the ability to call in a whole assortment of tactical strikes.

yeah, i'm looking forward to Merc2... however, i am not under the impression that this is game as big as other block buster games like GTA4 was.

I think the first one was the last game I bought for my PS2, and I have to say I really enjoyed playing it. However I personally thought the videos for the new one looked ropey, but there aren't a whole lot of other 360 games on the horizon that interest me so I might give this a shot. I think it will be polished, 7.5/10 type game, nothing ground breaking, a cheap thrills kind of affair
