It made sense that it was set between 2 and 4, it would explain what happened to Raiden, how he became the cyborg and all that.

But now it's being set post-MGS4? What the hell? Raiden became human at the end of 4, so wtf is he doing back as a Cyborg? He's got his kid and his wife back.

My interest in the game dropped considerably when I saw the newest trailer, but I figured I would still purchase it because platinum makes pretty fun games and what Raiden was up to between 2 and 4 but now its a rental at the most.

I actually noticed that the game may have been set after since Raiden's boots are not the same from MGS4; they're still heels but in MGS4, if I remember, they were more like stilettos, here they're a lot lower. The suit is obviously different which leads me to believe that it's simply an exoskeleton suit with no attachments as in he's not a cyborg but just a guy with a highly advanced suit. I'm going to assume the others are the same...and also...is that Vamp? Looks so much like him.

As for the game, being a fan of MGS and Devil May Cry, this looks like a combination of the two that could be extremely fun. Let's remember that many people wanted to play as Raiden since MGS4 was announced to hack and slash people and now they get a game that's exactly what they want and they complain? I understand that it's so different from the others but a game is supposed to be fun, they're trying to bring that back with amazing set piece moments and butcher like kill moves.

The title is ungodly stupid, I will admit that, and the writing is pretty poor but I'll probably rent it but since I'm such a big fan, I'll probably buy it.

Probably, but setting it between MGS2 and 4 I think would have caused even more backlash. The game is more colorful, the action is ridiculous, and people would be expecting the story of how Raiden rescued Sunny, which was probably a more serious affair than this game is gearing up to be.

Setting it after MGS4 makes sure that you don't have this ridiculous, colorful hack-n-slash tainting any aspect of the Metal Gear Solid story arc. I'd personally rather be able to enjoy it on its own terms than sit there going "Really? this was how the Sunny rescue mission was?!"

That's actually the reason I'm annoyed about it. No, you can't take it seriously and that's the problem. To me at least, it feels like they're taking the piss, screwing around rather than making something that fits with the established tone. I'm trying to sit back and allow others to be excited and look forward to it, because they'll probably find it really fun, but revengeance is definitely not for me.

Makes sense really. If they'd set it between 2 and 4 then they'd be constrained by the established cannon, plus we'd already know what was going to happen.

I mean what would the last level have been? Get crushed by Outer Haven and then fight with no arms? Quick time event to embrace family?

That is really disappointing but not a deal breaker for me. As it looks like a crazy fun over the top thrill ride, and that is what I really want from a game now.
I hope they are not planning on taking out all of the proposed stuff like how they were originally going to do stealth, as more of an agressive way to hunt people down instead of hiding from people, in favor of more over the top action every where.
But still, I want this game, it looks crazy awesome.
I just wonder how they are going to make him become a soldier again since the end of 4 though.

Even if the name is ... 'original', I'm kind of clad the removed the Solid from it, to make it clear that things are going to chage alot. Not just usual sequal, more like a spin-off?
And was that Vamp there? If not, why the hell desing character so similar to Raiden's old nemesis then?
Well, despite the change of genre of series I'm still gonna get the game anyway, to give it a change. Though one might wait for retail...

From Wikipedia: "a stealth action game set between the events of Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots". Not this different setting and the non-stop flurry of action that Revengeance showed us. And that damn word "Revengeance" has no right to exist.

Of course, if it is still heavily stealth-based, maybe it'll be worth it. But I don't know. That trailer made me lose hope.

Pretty sure the people actually making the game have more say with regards to where and when the game is set than Wikipedia does....

Besides, we've got a SINGLE trailer of this new build. Kinda early for everyone to start crying "RUINED FOREVER!!11!".

I'm not usually one for BAWWWWing, but I'm probably just going to treat it as a separate game. It might be good, but it just doesn't fit with the rest of the series. So I'm happy it's slightly more detached from the rest of the franchise.
