I scratch my head at all the rage directed at the new metal gear rising game. Largely because I don't understand it. I have played a large chunk of the Metal Gear games, and this newest one looks great. People are pissing and moaning that the game isn't 'like the other metal gear solid games'. Well...yeah. You're entirely right.

That's because it's NOT a Metal Gear SOLID game. It's Metal Gear RISING. Kind of like a side-story. Secondly, the cyborg ninja has always fought like this. Very much bombastic and in-your-face outrageous. Let's not forget Grey Fox's intro in MGS. He appears in sprays of blood, carrying a dead guy on his sword, and it only went up from there. The ninja's only 'stealth' was a cloaking generator.

So...someone please explain to me why everyone is up in arms over this. Are their complaints legitimate, or is this just a case of gamers being contrary because something is being changed?

Metal gear 1 and 2 weren't solid games either but you didn't see your guy throwing bipedal tanks up the air like he didn't care! I am concerned about challenge, in the trailer he throws a ray up into the air and shreds it, how can anything be a challenge to that guy?

I haven't played any handheld MGS games but I am pretty sure all of them are stealth games. To me it's like if DMC or bayonetta turned into a stealth game or even better, command and conquer went into FPS ... yeah! I said it, it had to be said and I said it!

I think what people are pissed off about is that the game is vastly different to what was shown a year or so ago. It was suppose to be a fast-paced stealth game where you zipped around and cut people in half.

Now it's a button-mashing hack 'n' slash game, a genre I could never really get into. Very disappointing.

Because when it was first announced it was supposed to be part of the actual story. Instead they did a complete 180 after a year with no news and decided to remove any element that made it a metal gear game people love and made it into what will probably be a generic action game spin-off title. The first trailer was promising even to any of the metal gear fans, that I knew anyway. We weren't horribly thrilled that you were going to be playing as Raiden (I've always liked that snake was more or less just another human) but the promise of stealth and choice between killing or disabling enemies was still there.

That's my reason anyway. Even then I don't think it looks like a bad game but unless something big happens that changes my mind it definitely won't be a game I pay $60-$70 for.

I'm curious how so many people through it was going to be a stealth game from that trailer. He ran around chopping up several people. It was called Lighting Bolt Action. Could that have not been more obvious? Did you want one hit kills as shown? That doesn't make for a very fun game. It's just a bunch of winey fans who saw a 2 minute trailer and projected their dream game onto it and now have to face reality.

I don't get how people think it will ruin the franchise either. You have MGS5 in development so it's not like this game will affect the main series. Not to mention Kojima even went as far as renaming it to further illustrate it's not part of the main series. Also for those who say it's too unrealistic to fit in the MGS world, go play MGS4 again. Or just look up one of the several youtube videos that get posted showing how ridiculous Raiden is (such as the gekko fight).

The only thing I'm sad about is the fact P* decided to do a different story. I wanted to see how Raiden became a cyborg, and P* may be great at gameplay but story-telling is their weakness.

Baring in mind we have only seen one trailer.

The gameplay just doesn't look very interesting. It looks like a toned down version of say Bayonetta. It looked very slow and dull to be honest. Of course as I said we've only seen one trailer so far so anyone who makes a judgment of the full product needs to sit in a corner and think about what they've done.

I think most people are just annoyed because that footage of him stalking the soldier with a gun on his arm and then slicing him up, and the watermelons etc just looked a lot more interesting.

A lot of the defense seems to depend upon the statement "It's not Metal Gear Solid, but, Metal Gear Rising. Therefore it's completely different."

I think these people forget that Metal Gear Solid: Rising would sound ridiculous.

and revengeance doesn't? :p I really don't think this has a lot to do with t he main story of MGS, so I think metal gear rising is a good name, personally.

Metal Gear is a good franchise and I don't see a problem with it branching out into other genres so long as it's still a good game. Kinda like how Halo branched out into RTS's with Halo Wars. Regardless whether anyone think's it a good game or not it was a way for a franchise to take a step into other genres so fans could either ask for more if it's good or just give it a pass and only stick to the more traditional stuff if it's not.

I think it's because of the shift from the planned "play-as-a-stealthy-cyborg-ninja-guy-who-also-has-a-sweet-katana-and-can-cut-enemies-and-scenery-realistically" to "Devil May Cry in a Metal Gear surroundings".

I may be wrong, since I never played a Metal Gear game.

Metal Gear Rising is no longer going to be on the PC so I have the right to hate....Oh wait, this is a fan issue.

Gamers throw fits when they think games aren't named 'properly'.

It was fine when it was called Risen these past 2 years or so. The minute they added Metal Gear, its time to ***** and complain like it's the end of the world. It's not a new phenomenon.
When was it called Risen? Risen is a completely different game...
