All right, it is more than graphics he has promised in the past, but this time he's promised Open World, VEhicles Helicopters that play "Flight of the Valkyries." These, in my eyes, don't seem like big things that need cutting on the scale of Destructo physics (Which have not been said to exist in this game) or all taking place in one Middle Eastern town. No, he's laid out his plans and they seem reasonable, in my eyes.
Calumon: He also has music from really old movies. :S
A gameplay trailer with 9 minutes of cutscene and less than 2 minutes of gameplay consisting entirely of standing behind a rock and then getting spotted by a, well, spotlight.
Yeah. Just about what I was expecting.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll walk away, hands in pockets, whistling nothing in particular.
That's a shortened trailer. IGN bought the rights to a longer trailer that shows off more stealth, animations, gunplay, a little bit about the cars and a big musical stealthy helicopter. It's pretty good and that's the reason I, among others, are excited.

Just saying, I felt that overall, MGS4 was a major regression from 3. It was still a good game overall but it's undoubtedly the worst of the series. Like, I had way more fun with portable ops.
I actually think Portable Ops was the worst out of the Metal Gear Solid games. I mean, the god damn plot twist relating to who "Ghost" is is not only stupid in my eyes but is inconsequential considering how it is never ever brought up again.
Python was cool though. I would call MGS4 perhaps the weaker of all the console ones, but no means would I call it a bad game. I mean, the entire last Act (Not the epilogue, Act 5) was just flat out brilliant, in my eyes.
"LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM! HOWL! ROAR! FROM THE VERY DEPTHS OF YOUR SOUL!"
The video had no context (although I have missed a few games, the games that aren't on console ... ac!d and peace walker) to me and then a 30 second (if that) bit of game play.
Also why does big boss look like Ron Pearlman?
I will have to see ... something to be more excited by this game, at the moment all it tells me is "new MGS coming".
It sure is a MGS Kojima game and that means i`ll stay the hell away from it.
The graphics are really good looking and it`s a long inro. That`s all i can say at this time.
The MGS spin off with Raiden is the more interesting game to me.
I honestly can't imagine anything more boring than the original showing of Rising. It was basically the gameplay from the last hour of MGS2 or so except with a slow and cumbersome "cut anything" mechanic slapped on top. There was nothing of any real substance there, and for an action game, what they had running seemed to just plod along a an abysmal pace.
I'll take a Platinum Games action title of any variety over that thanks.

Ah, i´m sure Platinum Games will manage to make it fun, no need for disapointment. The story of the MGS games are kind of crappy to me anyway, same goes for the gameplay which isn`t what i would call fun. Believe me i tried to like this franchise for three entire games but they are just not for me. I can`t even stand the first ps1 title anymore even if i considered it great at the time it was released, guess i grew out of it. Good if MGS fans can enjoy the new game but like i already said, i`ll stay away from it.
Could be great, graphics look stunning for current gen (though probably running on a PC) and the story seems interesting. But it would be nice if, for once, Kojima actually meant that this is the last MGS game. Things won't be able to go much further for Big Boss and After MGS4 I doubt there will be another Solider Snake game. The most I can see (and hope) is remakes of the original 2 Metal Gear games.

Not rebooting the story, just show us what this new world looks like after the GOTP incident. Literally start from zero again with new characters, gameplay, and scenarios. Seems simple enough.
Seriously, if fans are able to put up with Metal Gear, they should be understandable that we don't need any more Snake.
I'm still wondering how he'll earn Zero's trust because FOXHOUND is a US government agency and Big Boss led it but in this game, it's quite apparent Zero is going after him.
Big Boss forms FOXHOUND with Campbell during the San Hieronymo Takeover. When it's over Zero and Big Boss have their little tiff after Les Enfants Terribles is started and they part ways. As far as we know The Patriots didn't have total influence over the US until the 90's, with almost total control by the time Solidus was president, which was in the early 2000's. It looks like Big Boss was still admired by the US and led FOXHOUND. until Operation Intrude N313.
Influence? You're treating a small unit like it was a city or a land hard to touch. Besides, all the covert agencies would be the first things the Patriots influenced over. I'm pretty sure if Zero was able to confirm Boss was being a double-crosser, he would have been assassinated right away regardless of who ever would admire him.
What I'm definitely wondering is if this game will explain exactly why Big Boss was doubling as both the commander of FOXHOUND and the leader of Outer Heaven. In Metal Gear he was just a big bad, but with his tragic new backstory I have a feeling that they might spin it in his favour.

I'm fine with Metal Gear games, but not Solid games (as in ones with Snake) as those character arcs have ended. They have already started this with Metal Gear Rising, which looks pretty fun, and then there is the other unannounced FOX engine game which may be another Metal Gear.
You thought the game was trash and yet you decided to get the Foxhound medal anyway? My mind can't really comprehend that.
Anyway, I love MGS4 so we're going to disagree endlessly. With that in mind, let me tell you why I disagree so you can do a rebuttal at a later point.
The Bosses were far from drab and uninspired and were actually inspired from all the bosses in MGS1 and 3, where arguably the most memorable bosses have occurred. Each one took with them an emotion and carried it into battle (Something the Cobra Unit did) except each one was representative of the PTSD that each woman suffered. It shown many different ways it manifests and breaks people's minds.
Act 3 admittedly had the stalking the dude segment, which was dull, undeniably dull, and through playing the game again recently (Woohoo trophies) I can tell that Kojima knew that it was slower paced and dragging on a bit and so we get a heart pumping motorcycle chase sequence through the streets followed by a boss fight with so much explosions and debris everywhere it feels like the apocalypse has just entered the tower. The high tension for this finale for the act really overshadowed the slowness of Act 3 in my eyes. Not to mention Liquid Ocelot's plan in action in the final cutscene.
Yes, Act 4 was Snake versus the robots. So what? The Gekko units are terrifying and strong when you don't know how to take them out and the Scarab units, while not terribly strong are unsettling still. There is no negative point in your statement there. It is just a statement. I feel I can do that too about any game. "Skyrim was just a dude dicking around, being interrupted by dragons. Max Payne was just a dude shooting in slow motion. Angry Birds is just Angry Birds flying at Pigs." These are statements and not negative points.
Act 5 fucks up the plot? I really do not see how. Elaborate. Is it to do with your "Nanomachines" complaint? Okay, next paragraph. It's sort of a spoiler so tags are going up.
Yes, the Nanomachines play an incredibly big part in MGS4, and I will say that they probably were used too much, but they have been building up the whole "Nanomachines" thing for a long time. They were in MGS1, helping Snake out in Shadow Moses while also killing everyone, they were in MGS2, helping Raiden out while also making him trip balls, and now, as per you would expect with the game that has been building up the significance of these things, they are now the main point of the plot. Beforehand, Nanomachines were just there, didn't do much, not much said about them but now they are a main plot point, delivering the control that the Patriots were aiming for since MGS2. Now all military folk are wired, regulated and controlled and you see real progress as now soldiers and their skills are just given rather than earned, not even through VR training which was what WAS being used until now.
They were a key point yes, and why should that be a bad thing? Yes, they are a little mystical this time around, with the ability of super regeneration and halting cancer, but this in no way makes the story bad in my eyes. The Nanomachines aren't the force, they never reached that strong, so I'm certainly okay with this.
Finally Drebin's Shop making the game too easy? Are you mad sir? I barely used Drebin's shop because there was never any need to use it. Bullets left my guns fine, so I never needed to buy another of the ridiculous amount of guns on display. I never even ran out of ammo, so Drebin wasn't actually all that helpful really, except for buying the easter egg weapons like the Tanegashima and emotive bullets.
(I also don't think the last bit was that hard, but that might the due to the relative skill of the individual in fighting/melee combat based games, so no faults there)

I'm pretty sure if Zero was able to confirm Boss was being a double-crosser, he would have been assassinated right away regardless of who ever would admire him.
Not exactly true. Look at the Peace Walker Incident, as far as Zero was concerned Pacifica could have assassinated Big Boss any time he gave the order. And you're also forgetting Solid and Liquid, which Zero had ultimate influence over, were both members of FOXHOUND. Oh and there's Ocelot, who was a doub- trip- quadruple agent? He was secretly playing The Patriots during Shadow Moses. FOXHOUND was never a concern for the Patriots, who knows how many other agents they had in the organisation?
When it comes down to it, the Patriots at the time were still small time during FOXHOUND's official founding. Well, not exactly small time but EVA and Ocelot didn't abandon the organisation until after Zanzibar Land. They didn't really have anything to worry about, so why would they bother? FOXHOUND was public, but when it came down to it they squashed both of Big Boss' secret endeavors using Solid Snake.
As for Big Boss going coocoo, it's not really given reason in Metal Gear. We just know he kidnapped Madnar and forced him to make a new, better Metal Gear with nuclear launch capabilities. I know it's been a few years since Peace Walker, but Big Boss makes a complete u-turn from 'I want to create a world for soldiers' to all our nuclear terrorism.
EDIT
Side-note. On the burnt face man, has anyone else seen this image?
I really hope this is better than the clusterfuck of storytelling that went on in MGS4. I don't think I could tell you what actually happened in that game, or how it made sense relative to the rest of the series.

Except that he's actually a KGB agent called Zadornov. He is supposedly killed near the end of Peace Walker. I know it's only the suit they share, but thats a pretty neat coincidence.
