THANK YOU!

Jeezus people, lighten up. He didn't kill the baby, just knocked it out for another "naptime".

OT: I thought it was great. :D

The sarcastic comments at the end always ruin it. We get that you don't take no shit when creating your own web comic.

That's fine, we get it. Don't need to pretend its so crazy or so edgy that you have to head off some sort of fan rage by making the first hit by being sarcastic.

That's beside that I don't really get the comic, though I didn't play MGS.
I concur. We get it. You're an independent artist and you can do what you like.

Doesn't make it funny though.

Personally, I wasn't creeped out or offended, but that was a bloody terrible idea, guys.

Second panel was the worst part.
Why are people being a bit whiny on this thread?

What's wrong with a little black humour?
Because it's missing the humor.

Black Humor:

A dead baby in a clown suit.

Black Failure:

Nothing, really. LOOK, DEAD BABIES.

Seriously, showing loot dropped from a downed baby is not a punchline. I'm actually not sure what a good punchline would have been, which is why I called it a terrible idea in the first place.

How WERE they going to follow up on that second panel in a way that was remotely funny?

There's been very few times in my life where I "got" a joke and my first reaction was "man, I wish I hadn't 'gotten' that joke".

This was most of those times.
I didn't get the joke at first until I saw a commentor explain the joke, and I wish I stayed ignorant.

I love me some dark humor, but I didn't think this was that funny. :/

Meh Shock humor isn't my thing. Not to that degree anyway. Killing babies just makes me sad, I hear too much about it for that to be shockingly absurd. Like if you did a comic about a mass killing focusing on Serious Sam having a delusion, it's simply too close to home to be funny.

i love how people keep saying that the "dead baby joke wasn't funny" when it's not a dead baby joke at all.

At first i didn't understand the joke, then i understood it, but didn't find it particularly funny. Not my cup of tea.

But you know what? I know the difference between "This is bad" and "I don't like this". So i don't ***** and moan about it.

Yeah, some jokes hit, others miss. It happens. it would never happen if artists never took risks, never employed a little "envelop pushing", nudging and poking their crowd and craft to produce something bigger and better... so i'm not gonna give them lip about it just cause i didn't like it very much.

There is a huge difference between placing a foot in a darker place and going there every week... this comic has lighter and darker tones at a time, and some of you could use a little "growing up" yourselves about it....

The joke is that the baby is not dead and only people who have played the MGS series would get this joke, making it doubly funny for them to read the outraged people in this thread. Only knocked out enemies drop supplies in MGS, so the joke is that it's not actually a dead baby joke.

Mind you, I think it's a clever joke, no because it's a good joke, but how this was set up. I already posted my main opinions on the second page, so yeah.

wow man that was really dark... and not that funny...
Pretty much this.

I can see where you were going, but for a set up THAT dark you need a better punchline. Something people can't help but chuckle at, then feel bad for doing so. Snake killing his child, then crying over the items gotten from the corpse just doesn't do it.

Dark humor kind of carries the requirement of actually being funny. This is just needlessly dark.

Can we please go back to Erin's delusions now? Those are reliably interesting even when they're not being funny.
I thought the same thing at first but one of the facebook comments reminded me you only get items from people if you knock them unconscious not actually kill them so he's just a bad father not a monster... or at least not as much of one.
Edit: but if it is like MGS then the baby may have "disappeared"[/].

And for those of us who've never played an MGS game it just looks like Snake killed his kid and sits weeping with regret among the items drops. For those in the know it's a mildly clever joke, for those who aren't it's just a needlessly vile and dark scene portraying a frustrated father murdering his crying child.

Today's strip was bad and the author should feel bad.

You know, once people pointed out that he'd killed the baby for loot I actually found it a bit funnier, otherwise it just looked like he was having some sort of mental breakdown.

wow that's heavy...
I get that the baby's not dead but still.

Well let's put it aside for now and agree that this is a moral Grey area...

So far: every comicstrip who isnt understand by everyone all the time is a bad strip? Its a comicstrip about MGS, a well sold videogame. Sure not everyone will get it, but its totally legit.

That wasn't funny. You just had a game character kill a baby.

There isn't even a joke here. A baby died. A game character happened to do it.

He's a character with family issues. He got item drops. Okay. So...why is it supposed to funny that he strangled a baby to death?

I usually like this comic, bro. Bleh.

There's a place for tasteless joke, but this was just so unfunny, and it thus comes off as just uncomfortable.

To put it in perspective...
Some of you may glance at the chitinous armour surrounding today's joke and call me a thoughtless monster glibly exploiting human misery for the entertainment of base strangers. That isn't true at all. I'm a thoughtless monster glibly exploiting human misery for the entertainment of base strangers [HEADING=3]who have played Metal Gear Solid[/HEADING]. It's a minor distinction, but I feel it's significant.
See that bolded part?

Now see this:

So, this is another one of those Critical Miss where the punchline is right here in the comments forum. Ya'know, the righteous fury of people who THINKS the baby is dead... and the laughter of those looking in at their misplaced anger.

And shame on you. If you "usually like this comic, bro", you'd know that this is something which the guys at Critical Miss have done before, bro... * looks at what they did with ME3 "crybabies", especially that one guy who might post a wall of text just because I mentioned that particular single comic *

PS: Shaking babies, especially ones which are alive, is bad. Seriously. Minus a few tens of points for that...

^My point.

I also got it, though I made the mistake of saying the baby was dead.

It wasn't funny. I don't care if they did this in the past.

EDIT:

Caramel Frappe said:
Sure Snake didn't kill his baby... but does that make it any less violent or acceptable? Also it's fiction but the realism behind it hits pretty close to home. I really feel bad for bringing this up as well, but there are people who've lost their children before like myself.... so this comic pretty much hit me hard even though I won't make a big deal out of it.

Being touchy with a topic doesn't mean the people need growing up, it's actually a sign that maybe the comic/subject at hand may of been a little to much, and honestly this was a bit to much. Even though I understood the joke ... there was no real punchline or any reason to make this into a joke. Solid snake choking and strangling a baby? .... That's quite dark, and not everyone is going to accept that with ease. So again, if you and others found this funny- that's fine everyone has their tastes. But please don't get on people for being sensitive to things like this, I for one had to remember the past and it's not a pleasant feeling to be reminded.
This sums up my issue with this. It's like when Family Guy makes fun of Cancer Patients. There are some things that you just REALLY don't need to make fun of. Baby strangling is not like politicians or religion; it doesn't need to get the piss taken out of it.

Free speech is awesome, I'm not saying reprimand the guy, but this is, from start to finish, in horrible taste. It's like rape jokes: It's virtually garunteed to be an unfunny punchline and you just reminded someone of a traumatic event.
