I was a "hate everything that's not metal" kinda guy when I was younger but Metal has started to get blasted away from me by the loud beats of Techno, Drum n' Bass etc.

One of my favorite songs last year was

<youtube=__8OqgtqYuE>

and now it's

<youtube=MEQMkzjcLEA>

And for added discussion value I'll ask you how have you're taste of music evolved the last year/years?

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions because you posted a slipknot song as one of your ex favorites, but it could be because you weren't listening to many good metal bands.

I grew up in a fairly conservative christian household so my music was limited. Eventually after going out with my girlfriend for a while, she got me into more pop and punk rock (Relient K, that sort of thing). However in the last year, mostly influenced by the guys at work, I have found myself listening to more and more rock, which I love. Three Days Grace, Anberlin and lots more.

As I Lay Dying!?

OT: I used to enjoy the sound of metal, but hate all the constant screaming and death growls. I've grown to like it.
As I Lay Dying they are kinda ok... and that sound like my history with dubstep, First I hated the BAOWAOAWOAWOAWOAWOAWO but some people male it sound good. most don't

Music taste is a fluid thing.

I used to like Westlife. I don't now.

I used to irrationally hate all electronic/techno music, now I'm enjoying Invaders Must Die by The Prodigy.

In a few years I will probably have stopped enjoying punk as much as I do now. You mellow with age.

I love my slidding music taste I'll go from thrash metal to industrial/alternitve metal, then tecno, adding some good ska in the mix, starting to dig jazz.

tastes change and grow, and tend to loop around.

see, you liked slipknot and this is why you are starting to dislike metal cause that is shit music with little to no talent.

I suggest looking to the underground metal scene for good metal not mainstream Mtv2 or Mtv3 shit

Ah jeez, whenever I start making a list of good metal bands I could probably go on indefinitely and then feel bad for leaving out bands that probably would fit the list better.

To name some that I'm currently listening to, Helloween, Children of Bodom, Lordi, Judas Priest, Lamb of God, Sabaton, Blind guardian, Skeletonwitch... basically what I'm getting at is that there are a bunch of metal bands that I really like and slipknot isn't one of them. Not to say they're terrible, but there's much better stuff out there.

It's a healthy developement really. Typical metalheads are always bragging about being tolerant and openminded, but as you start to grow out of it you come to realise it's quite the opposite. There's so much awesome music out there, it's ridiculous to just listen to one genre because that makes you "true".

I must say I find it amusing to see that you're starting to like drum and bass and techno/electro, because that's pretty much exactly the same shift I made. Also, I've seen Deadmau5 live once and it's more awesome than all the literally hundreds of metal bands I've seen over the last 10 years. Stay true to what you like, all those 'scenes' and the people in it are bullshit.

Do you know why this is? It's because Deadmau5 is awesome, that's why. But seriously, It's not a bad thing to develop a bit of a different taste for music, the more the merrier! If you solely listen to metal for years you're going to end up getting a little bored of it after a while.

I never used to be interested in music then one day, I just became obsessed with it and never went back. It started with Rock, Classic Dance, Alternative, then moved onto Metal, then it moved onto Drum n' Bass. Nowadays, I like a bit of everything.

EDIT: Shamefully, I've even started liking Take That.

Agreed! I listen to everything from Katy Perry,Lady gaga and Lily Allen to Slipknot and Trivium and ofc Deadmau5 =D but the metal part of my music collection have started to get smaller in comparison to everything else.

I was the same when I was young, after a while everything sounds the same and finding a really outstanding band becomes difficult. Now I rarely listen to metal because most of the time it is dull.

Flametal is the only one I listen to at the moment. Flamenco + Metal:D

Well that's great!!! My musical taste also has changed a lot with time, I find that healthy for intelligence and musical education! An open mind is always better than having love for one genre and hate and despise for everything else.
Plus, you'll always have respect for metal but you'll learn and hear new ways of expression in electronic music now... eventually you'll outgrow that too and discover something else. And in some time... you'll be a rich man in music!!
