I must say I find it amusing to see that you're starting to like drum and bass and techno/electro, because that's pretty much exactly the same shift I made. Also, I've seen Deadmau5 live once and it's more awesome than all the literally hundreds of metal bands I've seen over the last 10 years.

What exactly does Deadmau5 do live? I'm not trying to be smug here, I'm legitimately asking, since all his songs (to my knowledge) are made on computers I'm actually curious as to how he would preform them.

I wouldn't really say my musical taste has changed, more expanded. I still love punk more than any other genre, both old and new, but I have also moved to listening to more electronic music and even the occasional bit of rap (not mainstream rap, still can't stand that).

As you grow older, your tastes are bound to change. Maybe you are just growing out of it.

For the record, i'm not saying metal is something people should grow out of, just that some people (myself included) do.

Not much really but in a metal concert it's more the artist that makes it awesome in this kinda concerts it's the crowd that makes it awesome (and awesome lightshows)

The problem I have with slipknot is they sound like they are trying. As in they know their fans want emo angry blah blah blah so they try to fit dammand.

I've never been a 'metal til I die' type person. But my music tastes have expanded rather than evolved. I went from new metal and alternative rock to including blues, jazz, some of the better techono and even some modern hiphop poetry.

How about accepting that some mainstream is shit, and some mainstream is popular because it's good?

Don't listen to those people, man. They're allowed to have their own opinions, of course, but there's a difference between "I personally don't like Slipknot." and "Slipknot is shit lol they have no talent."

It's a healthy developement really. Typical metalheads are always bragging about being tolerant and openminded, but as you start to grow out of it you come to realise it's quite the opposite. There's so much awesome music out there, it's ridiculous to just listen to one genre because that makes you "true".

Agreed. The ones declaring being "true" the loudest tend to be 12-17 year olds who IMO are just trying too hard. And it comes out in similar fashion as the profanity-spewing jerks in Xbox Live.

I consider myself as a serious fan of metal, since that is where ultimately my heart lies. However, I also enjoy a lot of other music, like 90s pop or any other good party tunes.


As for metal recommendations: RAMMSTEIN. Enough said.

I'm tempted to say "look it up on youtube" but I'll elaborate. It's really a mix between the music and the visual presentation. The way he creates an interaction with the media and screen setup and the songs he's playing. The way he plays his songs is totally different from CD. He's not just some DJ who plays someone else's songs at their speed. He uses his own songs, cuts them up, blends them together into a mix you wouldn't think was possible.

I'm not sure why it would matter that his songs are made on a computer. It's just an instrument. The computer doesn't create his songs, he does. Both technical and musical skills are required, as with any instrument.

Call me what you want, but I hate the classics. I can stand a few Megadeth songs, but besides that I'm fine with the changes.

Metallica have been shit for the past 20 years or so, so that's nothing new.
Maiden have been experimenting with their sound for the past couple of albums, but they still have a couple of great songs on every album.
Priest, I don't know what you mean, except for the time when Rob Halford left they have been great.

But I wonder why you would call these "the classics" there are many more bands that deserve that title, and almost all of them are still doing pretty good.

Anthrax have been superb ever since they started (And have always been better than Metallica)
Armored Saint got back together and have made a really solid new album.
Exodus is still creating great songs, as they have been since they were founded (Before Metallica).
Annihilator have always been good and probably always will, as long as Jeff Waters remains at the wheel (Last album was kinda crap though)
Accept just made a new album (I think).
Manowar is still doing their own thing as always.
Helloween just released another killer album (7 Sinners).
Ozzy is still kicking around (Dio isn't though )

I know of Exodus, but I haven't heard Heaven Shall Burn. Checking it out right now, sounds pretty sweet so far!

I have to say the european scence for heavy metal is far better then the american(The Abscence is one of my only exceptions to that) However I find the states to have a better alt. metal scence.
