Got the new Disturbed album last week and I was disappointed with it. It wasn't heavy at all and I really expected it to be more like Indestructible. This seems to be happening more and more today; metal bands are going softer. And I find that extremely disappointing because I love thrash metal. Is it too much to ask that my Metal is fucking metal? Discuss, disagree, recommend some heavy metal, call me a fucktard, whatever.

Agree!

Well not so much with the Metal Bands going soft, but just the general lack of new, good metal bands.

All the new bands seem to be going heavily screamo (which I dislike) or just plain boringly soft.

I predominantly listen to the Old Big Three, Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica.

I don't mind a bit of Disturbed myself, but if you're looking for metal that will stay metal guaranteed, try and find some lesser-known European bands. That would be an especially good idea if you like black metal or death metal.

Fucktard.

OT: I just wish I had some money to get new albums. I haven't updated my library since I had a crisis of conscience and stopped pirating... which was months ago. And this was right after my hard drive got wiped, so I've got all of like 700 songs. That sounds like a lot, doesn't it?

...well, it's not.

I agree, Disturbed really isn't metal. One band that really threw me was Black Label Society. It's heavy.... But not metal heavy. Still good for getting the ol ears ringing though.

Disturbed always managed to barely pass off as metal, so I'm not surprised. That said, if they want to switch genres, I won't fault them.

I just hope it doesn't happen with Anthrax or Halford's new album. The single for the Halford one was great, so I doubt it, but I'm worried about the Anthrax one.

You can't scream into a mike for decades at a time. Metal bands are going soft because their throats are wrecked and their all half deaf.

That, and the whole 'I'm getting older, I probably should prove to these fools that I actually know how to sing' thing.

And what justifies calling him a "fucktard"? Does he dare have different musical taste! Well then it's certainly excusable.

On a different note, Amazon has free music samplers. Most are shit, but there are some gems. Picked up a couple Testament songs from a Nuclear Blast sampler.

Indestructible was stupid. I'm really happy with the new album. I have noticed that bands are starting to suck, though.

Go to Sputnikmusic if you want to find some good metal bands.
Disturbed isn't really metal though. It's heavy, but not quite there. Not bad by any means though.

When I need to headbang to something incredibly loud, I just put on some Kreator, Slayer, or Morbid Angel. Works like a charm every time.

I honestly had no idea that they realeased a new album. I also haven't seen a whole lot of metal bands going soft, hell most of the shit I listen to seem to be getting better. As for bands though, is thrash the only type you like? Either way Warbringer isn't that bad if you want thrash.

I actually like disturbed. I always considered it "light metal". Usually perfect for me. Anything stronger and I usually start to not like it.

Thrash metal? Okay. Definitely the new OverKill, Exodus "Exhibit B" is excellent, Heathen's comeback album is great oldschool stuff, new ones from Horrorscope and Onslaught are on the way, Demonica is damn good, the new Witchery is cool (though I miss Toxine), King's Evil apparently has a new one ready to go though nobody seems to know when it's going to come out. If you haven't tried 'em already, check out The Scourger, Lazarus A.D., Dew-Scented (weird name, good thrash), Maniacal, maybe Sworn Amongst...oh yeah, and Savage Messiah (band name probably ripped off from Arch Enemy, sound & some riffs ripped off from Testament, vocalist sounds like Dave Mustaine, still manages to kick ass.)

I haven't heard the new album yet, but metal that's not quite metal is one of favorite music styles. Korn is one of my favorite bands of all time and Rage against the machine, both are listed as Nu-metal.

If you like thrash I'm sure you'll love Lazarus AD:
If you want metal that is actually metal, I suggest trying... You know, actual metal... That's just obvious...

Psychosocial-(not a huge Slipknot fan, but I love this song)
Dethknok
