Bolt Thrower - Those once Loyal
Suffocation - Blood Oath
Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier
Vader - Lead us
Testament - The Formation of Damnation
Death Angel - Killing season
Meshuggah - ObZen
Gojira - The Way of All Flesh
Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God
Slayer - World Painted Blood
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Austrian Death Machine - Double Brutal
Megadeth - Endgame
DevilDriver - Pray for Villans
Kreator - Enemy of God
Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden
Hirax - The New Age of Terror
Carcass - Heartwork

Death
Suffocation
Iced Earth
Kamelot
Morbid Angel
Slayer
Exodus
Testament
Anthrax

And, much, much more. However, that little list is more than enough to prove my point.

Incorrect. Although I will admit that I'm inclined to agree with Kamelot sucking, power metal kinda grates on my nerves.

Also, because this thread needs more videos:

I'd suggest reading this section on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disturbed_(band)#Style_and_lyrical_themes

I've never really considered Disturbed as metal. On the edge of the spectrum that separates hard/heavy rock and metal. Personally, I liked Asylum, but each to their own.

3 Inches Of Blood, story metal. These guys are mad as.

Maybe not thrash/speed/angst/doublekick metal, but here's a recommendation;
Cripple Mr Onion, New Zealand Metal Band.
Quality musicians, closer to Tool than Disturbed, with a few game themed tracks - but not in the "Save The Princess" vein.

The reason you haven't heard of them is because they're from NZ. If they were from anywhere else, you'd know. You'd all know.

Didn't even know a new album was out. Just listened to a few songs and samples and it still very much sounds like Disturbed, although I have the same nagging feeling I've had with Indestructible that about half of the songs seem... bland. Nonetheless Crucified, Sacrifice and especially Innocence are already shaping up as favorites.

On a sidenote... who cares if it's metal or not by anyone's definition? If you like it, listen to it. That's what I do.

And what justifies calling him a "fucktard"?
I was just being an arse; he said that was an option so I picked it. How often do I get that opportunity? Thanks for the advice though dude.
It's fine, I encourage free expression and "go fuck yourself" is always an option in conversation; it's there right next to the renegade option.
...so we're clear that I don't really think he's a fucktard, right? And that I wasn't expecting anyone to take it seriously? I can't tell if you're still scolding me...

I do what I always do when looking for good Metal: Go a little deeper than whatever's on the music channels. I can't stand Disturbed and their Ilk. Of modern metal, by far my favourite bands are Protest the hero and Periphery, though SikTh have been doing similar stuff a few years ago and went criminally unnoticed.

Then of course there's Devin Townsend or Tool who I can always rely on for a masterclass album every time.
Protest the Hero? Periphery? SikTh? DEVIN TOWNSEND? TOOL??? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! Seriously, I love all of those bands/artists, Periphery and Protest the Hero especially.

To me, a lot of bands could be considered metal. Although some of the more prog metal bands can get really soft at times, even prog DEATH metal bands. I love throwing my non-metalhead friends with that stuff. A personal favorite of mine is playing Breathe In, Breathe Out by BTBAM and having it lead into Roboturner... just look up the songs to see what I'm talking about. XD
Ha, the ol' quiet lovely guitar interlude followed by stupidly heavy trick eh?
Man, that metal trope never gets old...
I'm not being sarcastic either, I love that kind of quiet/loud dynamic! Probably why I like the proggier bands who have more of a fusion of styles and moods in every song.

Speaking of which, I assume you like Opeth too? Fucking awesome band, Ghost reveries is one of my favourite albums...

Got the new Disturbed album last week and I was disappointed with it. It wasn't heavy at all and I really expected it to be more like Indestructible. This seems to be happening more and more today; metal bands are going softer. And I find that extremely disappointing because I love thrash metal. Is it too much to ask that my Metal is fucking metal? Discuss, disagree, recommend some heavy metal, call me a fucktard, whatever.
You can't scream into a mike for decades at a time. Metal bands are going soft because their throats are wrecked and their all half deaf.
Tell that to Phil Anselmo.

He was 19 when he joined Pantera, the best metal band of our times. He's now 42, and still going strong.

OT: Metal isnt going softer, you're just not listening to the right metal.

Having said that, he's probably one of the rare metal musicians who hasnt gone "soft"
Or Robb Flynn. Since Machine head released their first album 16 years ago, he sounds even angrier these days. Bless their cotton socks!

Good call. The most recent album is savage. Butstill has time for floaty guitar solos and epic intros. Which is nice.

Depends on how youd classify metal, I'm more of a thrash/progressive metal bloke.

Metallica
Dream Theater
System of a Down
Opeth
Megadeth
Kamelot
Pantera

It's all good 8)

OT: I didn't mind Asylum, but i prefer Disturbed's old stuff

Modern metal, sans Fear Factory and Slipknot, does very little for me.

However, with the title, Porcupine Tree are one of my favourite bands, and while they are metally in places, they can be very light in others. I still define them as prog metal, but...well, they're not really.

Disturbed are metal for people who don't know what metal is. It's more radio hard rock like Shinedown anyway.
