I guess that the kind of people who listen to metal music are more likely to admit that they play video games, too?

Oh, and Prog rock.
We should have a Progressive Rock master race.
By "Oh, and Prog Rock", I meant that as I hate it with a burning passion. I'd back hand mother theresa before listening to that stuff.
Why's that. :/
I don't mean to offend anyone who likes it.
It's just that, to me, I'd rather listen to motorhead, AC/DC, Motley Crue, Bon jovi, Guns and roses, Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, and a lot of other ones like that. I even listen to Billy Joel, every now and then.

I'm of the kind of stereotype that the OP describes, a gamer who likes heavy metal.

Although, somebody did point out that most of the music you hear online is rap music, which i find true from my experience. I think the more serious gamers are more likely to be into metal, the casual ones could be into anything.

Well, I'd like to say I listen to metal (I really do), but I also listen to a lot of just straight up rock, and all of the metal I listen to is of the softer variety.

You insist you don't "mean to offend anyone", yet you hate a genre with burning passion just because...you prefer other bands to prog bands?

What.

If I listen to metal, I perfer Power Metal. Though, my most frequent choice of music is usually a choir or an orchestra. Sometimes both of them mixed.

I don't know. Metal generally is quite mainstream for at least 15 years now, at least from what i observe in everyday life, on streets of my city. It's more often used in different advertisements, and pretty much every 'teenage' centred product tries to tie itself to metal.
Not my genre tho, i find it boring and the supposed 'subculture' of metalheads as uninspiring, hardly different from pop culture in general.
You're from Finland aren't you? Metal, mainstream? Hearing metal from any place outside my apartment is practically an annual occurrence for me. That aside, please tell me what you listen to. If metal is boring by comparison, I have to hear it (unless by "metal" you mean hardcore).

I've been on a Symphonic metal binge lately...Apocolyptica, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil. Epic stuff.

Sounds like you just prefer the straitforward simplistic stuff, not that its a negative thing.
Exactly.

Nope. From one of the most catholic countries of Europe - Poland, place where Vader, KAT and Behemoth were born. Metalheads are common sight on the streets here, actually recently id even dare to say i see more metalheads than hip hop crowd.

As for my choice of music? I don't lock myself in single genre. Punk, ska, reggae, industrial, cold wave, ebm, aggrotech, indie, classic rock, rock, post punk... and several artists that are impossible to label.

This guys speaks for me, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Arctic Monkeys, and the other bands mentioned...Indie ftw.

But yes, the majority of proper "gamers" do tend to favour the Heavy Metal genre music.

I think it might be time in this thread to bring up, What other media has its own genre.

Do we stereotype people who watch movies as people who like jazz?

People who spend the day reading books, is it safe to say they like classical?

Perhaps the reason the covers on their albums usually reflect war, fantasy, and demons is the same reason they enjoy a genre of entertainment that includes those.

Thought I'm not sure what that reason is.
