Fuck that person. We're up to our tits in junkies, but how many 3,500 year old trees do we have? Your "trees have no value attitude" is ridiculous. You are aware of our need for trees right? Why do people think their more important than nature instead of realizing their apart of it?him over there said:It is a tree, no matter how old it is it is still a tree. In absolutely no way is it more important than a person. Fuck that tree.Ultratwinkie said:Oh right because when a meth addict runs through a museum and burns ancient wonders, we should feel sorry for the person? Fuck the person, national wonders and history needs to be saved.TheRightToArmBears said:Eri said:More seriously though, it's not "some tree" that got burnt. It's an extremely old tree that's lived through countless wars among other things, that's probably contributed more than she has or ever will.Kendarik said:It's an addict, so its self induced. And she's so far gone I doubt help will help. That she needs help is however obvious.
The tragedy is the tree, which isn't just a random tree, but a real natural wonder. It's a damned tree, no matter how old it is I find it pretty fucking disgusting that people value it over a person. It's a tree it doesn't have a personality, it can't think or feel things. I'm not quite going as far as to say this story should be all about the junkie, that's not what makes it noteworthy; I just don't like how Eri has written her off completely without a thought to rehabilitation or even knowing much about them.coolman9899 said:Dude this tree is older then you... by like 116 times over, and why would they... most people would care about the tree more anyway, lol.
No matter how you fucking cut it, she will die very soon. She is a tiny part in the timeline that is history. Historical relevance is far more important than someone who is willingly killing herself. She will be forgotten not long after her death as well.
History? National landmarks? History is forever and will serve a purpose for a longer time than she ever will. So stop it with the bleeding heart appeals to emotion, because it isn't working. The fact of the matter is a landmark was lost, and it wont come back anytime soon.
I would second your statement, but also I would like to take it a step further and say that nature is more worthy of preservation that any work of human ingenuity as humans themselves are a work of nature, and Until the time comes that we can create works as complex, beautiful, and essential to our survival as that in the natural world our tinkering needs to come second in our list of priorities.dobahci said:That's just a matter of definition though. The only real difference is that the Mayan ruins and the Moai were "intelligently designed" whereas the tree just happened to be fit enough for survival to last 3,500 years. Why define the former as a "testament" and the latter as a mere chance coincidence? That's seems a rather arbitrary distinction to make.him over there said:That isn't really an apt comparison, The mayan ruins and moai are impressive testaments to human ingenuity, the tree just happened to live a long time.
If you ask me, the tree is a testament as well. It's a testament to the survival of a tree! The "creations" (I use the word loosely) of nature are no less wonderful than the creations of humans. The existence of humans and every other species on earth, might be said to be a combination of "just happened to live a long time" stretched out over a period of aeons, and each is as worthy of preservation as any work of human ingenuity.
Natural selection, meth addict with lighter>wood that cannot defend itself. Seriously though its a shame about the tree but you would have thought something like the worlds 5th oldest tree would have been fenced off or protected somehow.Fragmented_Faith said:three and a half thousand years that tree has stood there, for longer then anything man has created and in one day some fuckspod with a lighter ends it. So yes, people are going to be somewhat more inclined to pity almost four-fucking-thousand years of survival over one worthless lump of strung out meat.
Take this addict, stake them out by the ashes of said tree and let it stand there while some other shit for brains lights them up
Or at least put up a "no meth in the tree"-sign. Sheesh, it's not that hard.Sleekit said:ye and maybe they might build a fence round theirs to help stave off wandering drug "enthusiasts"Quaxar said:Well, one village is desperate to have lost its old tree but let's see it different... another one will be freaking out because they just stepped up in the "oldest tree" ranking!
I laughed until I cried. That was amazing, cookie for you good sir.Jamash said:I think the news report has got it's figures muddled.
Judging by the photo, it should be "3,500 year old Meth Junkie burns down 26 year old tree".
