Metro 2033, your thoughts?

I've been watching this for ages and everything i hear about it is awesome. I can't wait.

it sounds to me that metro 2033 will be a Russian fallout 3 game

.....that said im still gonna buy it when it comes out

Well I've currently got FF13 and God of War III to tide me over but if its anything like Stalker with a bit more emphasis on dark atmosphere (looking at the trailer its very dark indeed ) then I'm all up for it.

It looks a lot like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and i loved that game. How come i haven't heard a thing about it?

It has some interesting ideas. I read an article on it recently and it sounded really cool. Real time maps, having to use a hand crank for your lights ahead of time, having to set your watch to remember how long your air lasts, and using bullets as currency. I've got a lot of games on my plate right now, so I won't check it out until the price drops, but I WILL check it out.

People have the wrong idea, Metro 2033 is a straight FPS, no other real elemnets are invloved so in many ways it's more like th new Wolfenstein than STALKER or Bethesda's ode to fallout.

It's visuals CLEARLY owe a heck of a lot to STALKER (many of the employees of 4A games are ex GSC gameworld) but it looks a bit more generic having the bane of all games, Evil Alternate History Natzis!!


To sum up Stop saying it's like fallout 3! It's much more akin to Turning point; Fall of libery (except that game was shit) with the visual sensabilities of STALKER but an utterly different engine and tech.

You seem to be under the assumption that I meant Russia+Post-Apocalypia+Guns is a bad thing

It's set in the Metro tunnels of Moscow after a nuclear war. The radiation has caused mutated creatures and stuff. Its hard to explain, but its a survival horror, FPS and an RPG rolled into one

actually, after having read about it and seeing game-related interviews, its supposed to be a story-driven first person shooter, meaning there isnt any open world exploration... which kind of brought it down a bit in my books.

You can still have RPG elements in a linear game. And I never gave out the impression that it was an open world game. You do go to the surface though, but obviously only a certain area...

Was excited, saw some developer walkthroughs which basically labelled it as a "shoot Nazis in dark areas" game, and I am no longer excited.

Pity, it looked good.

I'm waiting for not only the game, but for the english version of the novel to get to Amazon, suffice to say i'm really looking forward to it.
