I am happy for people in Australia (not just the gamers) I never knew he tried to censor blogs during an election. I was surprised by that.
Its a great day for freedom of speech. I hope that it will start something bigger to get rid of the nanny-state-mentality that the govt.'s got set up.

He resigned almost on the same day that Yahtzee and Gang opened their Mana-Bar.

Coincidence? :)
He probably visited it, realized that gamers aren't homicidal maniacs, and instead of admitting he was wrong just politely stepped down.

Honestly, this guy was very stubborn and ignorant and it is a good thing for gamers in Australia. Hopefully now they can actually see the skin tear off of a zombie's back now.

Am i the only one who thinks that the excuses given for serving as a back bencher are a bit flimsy?

He was so passionate in his convictions that i thought he would do everything in his power to spite us for as long as possible.

Not that I'm complaining, among other people of escapist forums i may have also said something along the lines of dancing on his grave.

In any case WOOHOO. Next item on the agenda (for Australians): TOPPLE THE INTERNET FILTER POLICY!!!!

When I heard about this I was understandably thrilled (close to crying with joy actually) but we shouldn't be celebrating yet.

Yes this prick is finally stepping down but if his replacement doesn't support an R18 rating nothing would have changed, it'd be the same problem, different face. Of course we're closer to an R18 rating than ever and his replacement would have to be an imbecile to not notice the amount of hatred and bad press Atkinson got. If he had a shred of rational thought he would support it, but Atkinson didn't and he was in charge so we'll have to wait and see.

Well fresh hot damns from the bakery of hell, didn't see that coming, but oh well, Yahtzee can review in full steam soon enough.

Am I the only person worried that this is the start of something awful?

What if the next guy is even worse?
Destroy one evil and something worse will take it's place. So I vote we put him into a vegitive state and freeze him.

Bah, joking. Who could be worse?

..Don't answer that.

I'll add it to the line up. But your beers-in-absentenia are about 20th in line.

Yes, Australians drink.

WOO! Nice one, Aussies!

Here's hoping his predecessor isn't a massive, massive tool as well.

EDIT - I'm not removing it as a sign of how much of a monkey I was, but I meant successor, not predecessor.

I don't think that's necessarily true, no one replaced Hitler! Also for the topic this is great news for Australia

He also cited a desire to see his son Johnno play soccer as another reason for his retirement from front-line politics.
OK Australian Escapist's, here's your homework, find his boy and get him interested in videogames, teach him everything you know.

The thought of having his son become one of Australia's top/pro gamers sounds delicious does it not?
On it!

With you on that one, buddy! Any excuse to drink copiously and slur the names of people whose political decisions have no impact on me. On that subject, screw you Berlusconi!

I feel good for Australia today. Until you let me down again by only exporting your shittiest drinks :(
I would like to very loudly andn drunkily agree with you!! :D

Here's to the Australian gamers!

predecessor means the person before him... and the previous AG was only a mid-sized tool.
Blergh, I'm tired - I meant successor. The one that comes after him.
