What is wrong with you people? Your absolute sheep. The OP gives a negative opinion, so you follow suit. Here's an idea: Get an actual opinion.
So what sort of opinion are we supposed to give other than negativity at Microsoft's comments? The 360 is my primary gaming system but, as stated in my earlier comment, they are acting needlessly arrogant: this kind of arrogance within press-releases turned me away from Sony.
I understand they might be trying to incite fanboy's, but how an earth can you "get an actual opinion" if you agree with the OP...?

I can understand that everybody here is getting angry at Microsoft here, but honestly, any gaming company would have said the exact same thing if they were the only company with positive sales. Why? Because it's bold statements like this that will tend to do good in the market.

We may not like it, but there's nothing we can do about it.
Agreed, if its selling why not gloat? I would also brag if I was the only one doing well while everyone else wasn't. Means I am doing something right at least.
Oh how I would gloat...

....But sheep can't type. (Seriously, my sister just said that.)

Anywho, goody for them. They sold a lot. So what? The Wii sold a lot too, now hardly anyone plays it.

I do agree with the "PS3 priced drop might change that". That's pretty much what I'm waiting for.

Why would you buy multiple 360s when you can get yours fixed for free?

RRoD knee jerk joke syndrome plus fanboyism = most of the posts in this thread.

When was the last time you actually had a RRoD anyway?
Hell, if you want to go down that road, how many of the 120 million PS2s were multi system buyers due to the shitty disk drive?

Have some perspective, people.
About 1%, a few thousand, I could imagine, as it was hardly the 33% the 360 has...

I have stated my opinion on the RRoD before, I find it absolutely atrocious of Microsoft to ever have let this slide past with a 33% failure rate. People don't realize that that is a pretty big fucking number, 1 out of every 3 360s will crash and that's ONLY the RRoD, that's not including the E74 error and others.

Coming from the #1 Sony Fanboy of this site, if my PS3 broke down on me 3 times, it's strike out for Sony. 1st time, okay, things happen. 2nd time, fine, I want my games. 3rd time's the charm, you're out of here, you cannot expect me as the customer to keep on doing this for you (though to be fair I'd probably be a complete hypocrite and send it in for more repairs...)

I don't give a shit if you can send it in for free and get it back in a week or two, if I end up expecting my console to fail on me then something is wrong. All of my friends with 360s have had to send in their consoles a minimum of 3 times. No other console has this problem, and it's absolutely atrocious of Microsoft to let this happen. Don't get me wrong, plenty of other electronics manufacturers have some of these problems, for example the exploding batteries in Sony laptops, but at least they recalled all of them and it hasn't happened since (at least as far as I know).

I don't give a crap if it's free to send it in, I should not have to worry about my 360 RRoDing every time I turn it on. I'm sorry if I'm sounding really fanboy-y or something, but I am completely appalled at how Microsoft let this happen, I truly do, free fixings for then next 5 times or not.

"About 1%, a few thousand, I could imagine, as it was hardly the 33% the 360 has..."

Actually the PS2 disk drive had a much higher probability of failure than the supposed 33% RROD risk (which would only apply to machines built before late 2007.) The only reason it wasn't such a big deal was 1) there was no acknowledgement by Sony about this (AKA no free repair after 90 days) and 2) because of the previous reason and the simplicity of the machine, many people took the machine apart and fixed it themselves. I, myself, played my PS2 completely unscrewed so I could fix it every so often. That's how bad the drive was.

"All of my friends with 360s have had to send in their consoles a minimum of 3 times."

First off, being the fanboy that you are, I doubt you have ANY friends with 360s. If you do, then they are very unlucky. I personally know of ONE 360 that has RRODed and that was my brother's launch version. I doubt there are more than a handfull of consumers that have had to send their console in more than once.

Doesn't suprise me really.

The 360 is basically in the sweet spot for price and quality of games, which is helping it sell so well.

Eh? what does Gates have to do with it? I mean really. Gates is actually a really cool guy. He's not some toolbox like Steve Jobs.

Ha. Cynical and brilliant.

OP: This seems like a corporate 'We're okay, you're okay' announcement for the shareholders which shouldn't have got out.

Look, call it arrogance or whatever you want; as a company, Microsoft is sort of obligated to pitch itself like that. It comes off as sounding very full of themselves, but in all honesty I don't blame them for using this as an opportunity to market themselves. The bottom line is that every corporation is out to make money.
MS is much more boastful than the other two companies though. Neither of the other two spouts as much bullshit and MS seems to be the one that's heating up the most hatred in the market.

"In the U.S".

But elsewhere?
My new Xbox 360 cost £124 = $200

When I bought my PS3 at launch, it cost £500 = $1000 with what the exchange rate was at the time.

actually it is true, it only outsells in the USA, in Japan it is being killed by the ps3.
The problem is Gaming is not longer restricted to Japan, which is now a relatively small market and it is not being killed by the PS3 but both PS3 and Xbox 360 are being dominated by PS2 and Wii as the entire country is caught up in the casual gaming fad.

Just take a look at comparative XBox 360 and PS3 sales for Europe in the 2008-2009 holiday season:

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/05/xbox-360-over-achieved-in-euro-christmas-sales/

The biggest and most lucrative markets are Europe and North America and it is only Xbox 360 which is experiencing growth in those areas and as someone who has recently bought into Xbox 360 after years of languishing with PS3 I now totally understand why.

The Xbox 360 is starting to benefit from it's position as the cheapest game console now. Gaming is not recession proof, but if you've positioned your device such that it's relatively more affordable than it's competitors, you can weather the storm better.

Go team! Now I have another thing to rub in the faces of all those silly Playstation owners, because that is the only possible reason anyone would find this news anything but disheartening. I'd rather see the industry as a whole experience growth everywhere than just my favorite console doing well in the US.

Reading all of this kinda made me hate people in general. This is just perfect fanboy bait; are people seriously surprised Microsoft (or any company in a competitive market for that matter) said this?

I lol that Pendragon9 claims to even have an Xbox 360 and especially that it RROD "again". I've tangled with him before and I know how he feels about anything Microsoft related.

actually if you read the article, which doesn't post actual numbers just rough estimates. you would actually see the PS3 is still outselling it in Europe.

now you might think i'm crazy for saying that BUT they claimed to have had 7 million 360s sold and a million less PS3, they've sold more PS3s in less time. do the math behind it, the 360 took 3 years to reach the 6 million mark, the PS3 took just over 2. the math does not lie

Am I the only one who thinks this is hilarious, it doesn't really deserve hate but laughter. In all fairness it's a hyperbolic way of describeing the consoles well being.
