Oh noes, Microsoft has decided to do something it has every right to do! Come on, people. I know having to pay for DLC you didn't know was going to have a price at all is annoying, but it costs Microsoft money to make AND distribute the DLC. And that cold hard cash has to be made back somehow. They're running a respectable business and money invested has to be made back. It's the way these things work.
So then how does Valve manage to make AND distribute it at no cost?
No one said that.
But by the wording of Valve's statment, they imply that Microsoft is taking all that Microsoft point money for itself. Valve, handing out the DLC as nice guys, and the extra incentive for people who have not yet, to buy the game.

I don't know whether it's worth it, because Left 4 Dead 2 is coming out so soon. I'm als really pissed that it's free on the PC.

Not surprised TBH, but if you're playing L4D on the 360 you get what you deserve.

PC FPS > Console FPS.

You misunderstood what I was saying. I didn't mean that it didn't cost Valve anything to develop and distribute the DLC, I meant that they did so at no cost to us.

Except most of the content on WoW is free.

They've had something like 2 expansions you've paid for and 19-20 content packs you haven't.
All the players pay $15 bucks a month, and since they have millions and millions of subscribers they make way more money than they need to maintain the servers.

On L4D: Don't like paying for stuff? Too bad. Microsoft is under no obligation to give it to you for free just because Valve does it. I play L4D on the PC because I'll never play an FPS on the console if I don't have to, so I don't give a crap if they charge. :D
You aren't paying 15 bucks a month for content. You are paying 15 bucks a month to have access to play with the millions and millions of subscribers you just mentioned.

You pay them to keep their servers running and even that isn't a promise. When I did play wow the 15 bucks a month felt like a new game each month because I was meeting new people. Then again I didn't play on a PVP server so I basically didn't meet assholes (as opposed to when I DID play on a PVP server where everyone was extremely abrasive).

As for L4D, I agree. If people don't like it, stop supporting the companies.

Ah the miracles of the digital age; since Valve sells more digital copies instead of hard disks production cost are reduced significantly.
Its DLC, there are no hard disk copies. Valve developed this DLC and is distributing it themselves for PC through Steam for free, so how does allowing Microsoft to distribute it on Live add a $7 price tag?
That's Valve's genius. As you know, they continue to add DLC for Team Fortress 2.

But is it really costing them? A more expanded game means more content, which attracts more people. And the fact that it's all free just sweetens the deal.

Charging for DLC was a dick move, but I wasn't going to buy it for my 360 anyway. I don't have Xbox Live, you see.

Big deal, we have to pay $7 for new DLC. I'm a rich SOB, I have $250 in my wallet alone so it doesn't bother me too much. Besides, Microsoft knows we're going to buy the DLC anyway regardless of the price they put on it so relax; save the price moaning for MW2's price tag.
are you always a dick?

Heh... I remember reading something about how Microsoft pushes for a price tag on the content, but one of the Microsoft representatives were saying something like "It's the choice of the content provider" or something. Two faced little buggers ain't they? Anyways this made me chuckle a bit, even though I could care less about Left 4 Dead.

how weird, a company that wants to make money!?!? ODD!!
You know, that argument is starting to sound really stupid.

If it is free on PC then it should be free on all platforms. The same goes for everything else, it punishes people for buying games on a certain platform and that is not fair.

If they charged on all platforms then your argument would be valid.
It costs microsoft money to have the DLC, especially one that'll be downloaded as much as this one so it's only fair to try to make money out of it

And it's free on Steam maybe not anywhere else

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve and Microsoft had worked this out as a deal: they were allowed to make Survival mode free, but would have to charge for the next campaign.

It makes sense, to be honest: Valve isn't making/publishing the content on their own platform like they do on the PC (Steam), so naturally the person owning the platform is going to want a little bit of cash for it. Sony and Nintendo would do the exact same thing, in these circumstances: but people like hating Microsoft, so they're going to ignore that (and common business sense) in favor of "HUR HUR M$ IS GREEDZORZ."

The sad thing is that people will still dl it...

Though technically, there's nothing saying they have to make DLC free. It's using their servers and costing them money. I'm not going to buy it, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to give away freebies.
Uh, just playing XBOX Live costs a monthly fee already. Playing the same games online is free on the PS3 and the PC. If anything, XBOX Live should be nothing but freebies, but no, everything costs money, even stuff that the creators of the actual content wanted to be free.

Indeed, because Valve are nice guys like that.

Besides, it wouldn't cost them THAT MUCH. Textures and whatnot, surely the majority of them would be recycled?

Members of Valve are officially welcome at my dinner table, while Microsoft will have to fight the dog out back for leftovers.

You people are selfish bastards. Every fucking one of you.

You are all a bunch of cheap ass hoes. I mean really. You want everything and you want the best of everything and yet you don't want to pay a damn dime. You just want to sit on your ass and play games and ***** about prices, but get payed to do that.

I am sorry, but business is business. As much as you HATE Micorsoft for whatever such thing, just know that someone has to make money somewhere. Put it this way, you are feeding a father;s kid or even giving a mother money to go shopping.

Yeah it sucks when we don't get everything exactly what we want. Yeah, it also sucks that I have to pay $3.55 for gas, but I have to drive my car to go places.

You don't have to buy the god damn DLC if you don't want to.

Why not blame Valve for making the contract with Microsoft in the first place hmm?

I am so fed up with the whiners on this forum. I am fucking leaving. It is either the yahtzee fanboys who hang pictures of his balls on the walls so they can suck on them every Wednesday (no offense to you yahztee, I like you, but it is the fans I hate), or it is the halo haters who sit here and ***** because it is better than their game(shut up, I don't want to hear from you, get off my internet space), or it is you people who sit here and complain about every god damn little thing because "they have to pay for DLC."

You know, there are kids out there who cannot even afford a house let alone an xbox360. There are people out there that are dying, but don't have the necessary funds to buy medical supplies and you are complaining about $7. Are you people so de-humanized that you let something like this...completely piss you off?

In this community, you are damned if you do or you are damned if you don't. This place is FULL of PC fanboys, 360/PS3/PC fanboys, and every fanboy you can think of. Sure SOME of you are on the "keeping it real" level like me and know that even know you hate something you understand why and know that bitching about it does nothing, but jesus christ the rest of you get the fuck over yourselves.

Why don't you guys go on PSN and DLC for free? Oh wait...I forgot that PS3 doesn't have this game in there library.

I'm leaving. I am only going to come here to watch Yahtzee, have a good laugh, and that's it. I cannot stand it with you morons anymore and your bitching cause the world doesn't go your way.

Life sucks....get over it, but you have every choice not to buy it.

So all you trolls, fanboys, 4chans, fakers, and every other low-life of the internet that ruin it from the inside out can go rot in hell. As for me, I am going outside to play...in the sun...lucky for me you guys are allergic to it.
