Basically everything downloadable is overpriced, and MS have enough money as it is. I've no sympathy.

Yeah, it's going to be really hard for Microsoft to figure out which accounts added 160 points over and over on that day. Prepare your righteous outrage now so you can claim to be shocked when we all find out that their Live accounts, consoles, and credit cards have all been banned forever.

I swear, the people that use these things just don't use common sense. Everything you do on your account is logged.

You guys are right. Because they have a lot of money, and because you personally think that they charge too much for downloadable content, they deserve to lose large amounts of money. A totally fair and not at all immature stance to take.

Not saying it's fair or that they deserve it, I'm just saying I don't feel sorry for poor little Microsoft.

100% reset of all achievement points. Deny the ability to reclaim achievement points already established.

You forget it's cool to hate Microsoft - get with the times, everyone's doing it!

OT: This is kindof like that story of the kid who spent £800 or something on Live. The idiocy is there but I imagine the people using this exloit don't have age as an excuse.

Do you think anyone who took advantage of this exploit managed to do it 250 times and get 40000 Microsoft Points?

By my calculations, if they did it 250 times and got 40000 MS Points with a value of $500, then they would have committed felony fraud rather than just a misdemeanor.

It would be amusing to here the kind of excuses you may read on whywasibanned.com or the X-Box Live account suspension forum being used in court, although it probably wouldn't be as amusing for the persons facing serious jail time for their e-greed.

It's still a crime. Even if the victim isn't a sympathic one. And besides, if my understanding of what they did is right, they were just kind of guessing or figuring out codes, with this algorithem (yeah, i buchered that.) then, isn't it possible they, in essissence stole codes from honest people who's have bought them legally? I mean, once a code is used, it's used. So, these guys guess a code, that codes is dead, but, prolly still out there somewhere waiting for someone to buy it... maybe.

It's wrong either way.

Doesn't have to be over and over once is more then enough. If your account got 160 points added can not be anything else but illegal with a code. Store sold prepay cards are:
400
800
1200
2100
4200

so just ban all accounts that got 160 points with a code.

Whilst it's easy to say that Microsoft deserve this for being a big company, they could just stick up the prices for things on the marketplace meaning that legitimate gamers are paying the price of a few greedy folk.

It should be easy enough for Microsoft to find the culprits though, if you wanted to buy a few hundred MS points why would you buy loads of 160 codes rather than everything in one go?

Microsoft's points system is morally corrupt, and therefor, they have no right to complain when others cheat them in an immoral way.

I think that's the logic behind most people's opinion. Steam has a lot of money, but if someone stole from steam's store we would all be pissed. The thing is steam doesn't create an overpriced "fake" currency.

And the currency being overpriced is just the tip of the iceberg there. Look into some of the studies on the MS point scams, truly sickeningly effective business right there.

Socialism ftw.

Anyway. In a few weeks we will see waves of people complaining about their banned accounts. Just like with the modded xbox thing a few years back.

Waaa? You signed a user agreement and then broke it and was forced to face up to it!? Perish the thought!

Whats so morally corrupt about it? You pay for a product you want for a price you accept. You receive it. End of story.

Did they really lose $1.2mil though? Always lol at the numbers they come up with. They'll mitigate the losses no doubt by tracking down a goodly number of the accounts who used the exploit.
Also how many people who used the codes would have bought them in the first place, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a small percentage who will not use them in the end.

This reminds me of the ol' topup card system for mobiles (in the UK) - some (if not all) of the big networks were running out of codes on a regular basis, so they'd just recycle the codes. People cottoned onto this and just kept their old cards for 2-4 weeks and then just use the code again. (I never bothered as I didn't use much credit)

As great an idea as that is, just a few days ago on Twitter a legitimate game company was giving out 160MSP codes.

It's possible to get them legitimately from Microsoft, but they're not sold in shops.

How so?
Ever wondered why they use points instead of currency or why you can't buy specific points, only set amount? Through points, they're screwing you over. Say you want to buy enough for a game that costs 800 points. When you're purchasing the points, you've got to pay an extra few bucks for those extra 200.
