Wouldn't hardcore gamers be the least sweaty? Especially ones sitting for long periods in super-chilled rooms hoping that will keep their 360s from dying of heat exhaustion, or in cool environments extending the lives of their computers' hardware?

Of course, I'm also not 30 and don't own any Metallica shirts. I also realize the purpose of his joke was to garner support from other areas. The only problem is it isn't clever or amusing. Nothing warrants backlash like lamely mocking your core consumers. At least be sharp and hilarious, damn it! Maybe it was a safe gamble because I think Kinect is a horrible idea and nobody is going to buy it, so they're just saying anything at this point to try to get the product more attention?

The nerve of them!!

Metallica isnt nearly hardcore enough.

Cradle of Filth or Mastodon would obviously be the perfured t-shirt of sweaty 30 year olds.

What a fucking douchebag, happily I no longer give any money to those asshats at Micro$oft (I jumped ship for a PS3) so they can fuck right off!

Oh yes, Mastodon for certain and I'm damn positive a lot of Tool wearing sweaty people! Maybe one or two Opeth wearing metalheads as well, with sweat!

Kinect: Hey, let's mod an Eyetoy and sell it.

Microsoft is going the way of Nintendo, but with less innovation and more casual name-calling.

Oh gamer persecution complex. How wonderful you are, taking offense to something because you, not the person who said it, applied it to a large group of gamers. I hope it never goes away.
I think that, given the context, it's obvious that the comment was directed towards core audiences.
Or it was a guy trying to sell games to a new audience who may or may not think stereotypes are true. But if you guys want to think it was him slamming you, go ahead. I know how much gamers like to whine. Why don't you guys start an online petition to get him fired.

Bewm.

I hope this story gets huge. Microsoft shouldn't be allowed to make comments like this and get away with it.

Oh, they probably will. We all know this'll blow over. The very people that Microsoft insult will continue to support the company, and they'll continue to poke fun at us all from behind their gilded curtain.

Sound. So long as I keep my gamerscore.

Still lovin' how Microsoft making Kinect means they're abandoning the types of games that established the console in the first place. Yes, they're going to put an end to proven cashflow and just go with something that's a huge gamble because they hate hardcore gamers and only want to make games for those dastardly casuals now.

What's wrong with Metallica?

I'm 17, and I have 4 different Metallica shirts xD. I suppose 30 year olds aren't supposed to be wearing the shirts? What a stupid comment from that guy.

I guess its not "cool" or hip to like old music or something?

Am I the only one who read that quote as Microsoft actually meaning more like they were in the context of challenging the stereotype that the "majority" have had with gamers for years? The angle they're going with Kinect further backs up that context, they want it to appeal to everybody (coughwiicough, sorry, had to) and they said it to illustrate that point.
That's exactly how I read it, it seems like he's saying gamers aren't sweaty 30 year old metallica lovers.
Which is exactly what they meant. Only, the internet hate machine got a hold of it and twisted it to their liking, took offense to a blank stare and is responding in turn.
Agreed ofcourse... This happens way too often when people don't take a second to think of the context something is said and go straight to the bitching.

This is because, sadly, most people who self-identify as a gamer (or as whatever their hobby is), are idiots.
