This is such bullshit. We're their fucking customers! Can you imagine a Budweiser employee going to a public event and saying beer's not just for pathetic drunk rednecks anymore. We're the ones who have been keeping gaming viable as an industry for the last 20 years. There would be no XBox without us. Where does a fucking computer company get off hijacking a medium that we've supported and helped develop since before our balls even dropped (or had our first periods or whatever). So are we just gonna sit here while we get blackballed from the community that we had everything to do with creating? This anti-gamer big 3 bullshit is starting to wear very very thin.

We need to organize. Seriously...

No, I wear Megadeth t-shirts.
Kidding. But still, that's stupid of you Microsoft. What if Kinect fails? You won't have a casual audience and your hardcore audience will hate you.

Oh gamer persecution complex. How wonderful you are, taking offense to something because you, not the person who said it, applied it to a large group of gamers. I hope it never goes away.
I think that, given the context, it's obvious that the comment was directed towards core audiences.
Or it was a guy trying to sell games to a new audience who may or may not think stereotypes are true. But if you guys want to think it was him slamming you, go ahead. I know how much gamers like to whine. Why don't you guys start an online petition to get him fired.
Sure is generalisation and condescension in here.

Am I the only one who read that quote as Microsoft actually meaning more like they were in the context of challenging the stereotype that the "majority" have had with gamers for years? The angle they're going with Kinect further backs up that context, they want it to appeal to everybody (coughwiicough, sorry, had to) and they said it to illustrate that point.

This is odd coming from Microsoft as most game stores I've been in the past few weeks were full of 12 year olds drooling over the counter, per-ordering their copies of Halo: Reach.

I consider myself to be a hardcore gamer, and this sterotype insults me and my intellect.

Wait why are we getting upset about this?
Microsoft said that gaming isn't for Sweaty 30 year olds in Metallica T shirts. How is that a bad thing?

There's been a steady uphill battle to prove that "gamers" aren't a bunch of socially retarded morons with the attention spans of Ritalin kids. So why does this statement suddenly make people upset?

Between this and Kinect, I wonder if Microsoft evens wants hardcore gamers to use their system.

I don't know, but I'm reminded by the famous phrase, "any media attention is good media attention." Or something like that.
That only applies to the people who haven't heard of you, like catching the attention of people. The people who already are paying for your service and buying your consoles you should probably stay on the right side of.

It really is an idiotic move (heh heh, move. Like motion controls. Holy Shit.) one I wouldn't expect a business as big as Microsoft to make.
I gave up the second the picture of, "kinectimals," came up on my news feed.

I'm not succumbing to this. Honestly people, don't react. It's what they want.
Why would they want their core audience to be pissed at them?

That phrase is wrong. I highly doubt that getting your core audience pissed at you will get them to buy more of your stuff. There's a difference between trolling and just being retarded.
You've got to understand that there's far more profit for Microsoft in the casual games industry than sticking to the core. Cracking a joke at the expense of your fans and customers isn't much to them if it makes people willing to fork out money for that shit.

You people are all tools every single one of you. Get off of the Microsoft Hate-Bandwagon.

You SHOULD read this as a compliment. The line reads defying the stigma that THE PUBLIC applies to you, not Microsoft. Unless you are arguing that you are indeed a fat sweaty 30 something metallica t shirt wearing ingrate and are some how being offended by this.

Look at the context.
"Gaming's not just for sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts"

Lemme break it down for you.
If it read "Gaming's just for sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts" I wouldn't be posting this. And your hatemachine would be right. But there is some strong Keywordage in there known as the word NOT.

So, yes, please continue to hate microsoft on baseless internet hatemachine tactics and CONTINUE to define the stigma that in fact you all are sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts.
