Wait why are we getting upset about this?
Microsoft said that gaming isn't for Sweaty 30 year olds in Metallica T shirts. How is that a bad thing?

There's been a steady uphill battle to prove that "gamers" aren't a bunch of socially retarded morons with the attention spans of Ritalin kids. So why does this statement suddenly make people upset?
Because microsoft said it, and the internet hatemachine is so blind by microsoft hate it canont even tell when its being defended.

I'm just gonna say one thing...
Microsoft's just bitter that none of the shit they create is good enough to attract hardcore gamers, Evidence?, Windows OS is almost certain to fuck up your pc gaming experience at some point and every game they try and help with turns out bad... really bad, I.e, Halo 2 = Epic (I still remember damn good times in random custom games playing "Zombies") Halo 3 = Fanboy lip service, not what it was expected to be, difference? Microsoft bought out Bungie :D

On a side note, they're a world renown company, that can't make a next gen console that runs without being, at best, temperamental (Crashing, RROD, Over-heating) and then they want to step up their game to motion controls like the PS3 and Wii? Don't make me choke, with laughter, on my corn flakes xD, Rant over.

You know what, I'm 19 work in the fashion industry, love Dance music and Dj regularly and am about to give it up to study philosophy at one of the best universities in the world. Mircosoft have no respect from me. They ruined many a great series (oddworld, the whole of rare!) I am not a fanboy just an anti xbox fanboy. I am above being patronised like this and the vast majority of you out there are too. A firm finger up to you David.

You people are all tools every single one of you. Get off of the Microsoft Hate-Bandwagon.

You SHOULD read this as a compliment. The line reads defying the stigma that THE PUBLIC applies to you, not Microsoft. Unless you are arguing that you are indeed a fat sweaty 30 something metallica t shirt wearing ingrate and are some how being offended by this.

Look at the context.
"Gaming's not just for sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts"

Lemme break it down for you.
If it read "Gaming's just for sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts" I wouldn't be posting this. And your hatemachine would be right. But there is some strong Keywordage in there known as the word NOT.

So, yes, please continue to hate microsoft on baseless internet hatemachine tactics and CONTINUE to define the stigma that in fact you all are sweaty thirty year olds in Metallica t-shirts.
Em I do agree not to jump on the band wagon but I think it is you who isn't reading the context right. It was said to probably a bunch of mostly non Gamers and was said to try promote Kinect to the casual audience that it why we are a bit pissed.

I don't wear metallica shirts! I wear mario, Glastonbury and AC/DC shirts! Besides, I'm not thirty, I'm fourteen!

Who cares? Microsoft are in line with Apple, Google, and Activision has being full of unlike-able cock ends.

How could anyone say such a thing? This is just like calling Barack Obama a "******" to his face during a live, televised debate. No, this is worse. I literally cannot conceive of a more offensive thing that anybody could ever say. I expect that the wholly-justified rage about this comment will directly lead to the Microsoft empire crumbling to dust within a month, and a year from now we will be walking past Bill Gates begging on street corners on our way home to surf the internet on our Ubuntu boxes.

I consider myself to be a hardcore gamer, and this sterotype insults me and my intellect.

No, we're sweaty twenty year olds in Dragonforce t-shirts.
Dragonforce is soo last year [/trollbait] =P

(then again, so is Metallica *sigh*)
Something tells me that this is going to become a musical discussion.

Oh, and MEGADETH ftw.
I can somewhat second the musical discussion part.
As for the Megadeth part: they're my favorite American metal band and one of my favorite bands ever, so I agree with this tenfold.
As for the sweaty thirty year old deal: Who really cares?

WOOOOO!!! GO METALLICA!!!

I mostly fit that but I'm not that sweaty and I'm 19, although I am getting a bit podgier now... must do exercise... although, they didn't mention fat... or beards and trilbys as is the standard. Though admittedly I haven't shaved for about 4 days and I do have a trilby-esque hat in my room.

Gotta admit the first thing that comes to mind when I think of 'hardcore gamer' is a sweaty guy who likes heavy metal. But I always think of teenagers and people in their early 20s as hardcore gamers, not 30 year olds.

Seriously, how many people fit that stereotype on this forum? I'd say quite a lot.
