While it is definitely a ***** that my console's broken twice now. I guess I'm just a fanboy because I love my 360 with an unnatural fervor. I mean, I like the PS3 and the Wii with their exclusive titles (Smash Bros. and God of War), but I just really like my 360. I guess PC gaming is just too much of a hassle for me, and I just like that feeling of putting in my disc and knowing it will look good without having to tweak all the graphics settings.

Anyone remember the iPod? Oh right everyone does cause it still exists in most people's pockets. It also had/has a lot of defects but because of its warranty/customer service it rose to the top. I guess something could be said about good customer service carrying a pile of crap to the top as long as its warranty is honored. Hence why all PC gamers generally by EVGA Nvidia cards, not because EVGA makes the best product, but they have great customer service and a good program to upgrade. Hate to say it, but they made it work, even with shoddy components to undercut their competition.

whilst 54% is a lot, it doesn't really surprise me, since every one i know is on AT LEAST their second or third, and some even their fourth!
And whilst they said they have " one of the best warranties in the industry. " to me, a good warranty is one that is never needed.
don't get me wrong, i would much rather have a xbox that a wii and probably a ps3, but it can't be good for Microsoft as well as the customer to have over one in two break.

I don't want to get into the whole "my console is better than yours" flame war, but I still prefer my PS3. I've had it since it first came out here and it's never failed me once. My best friend on the other hand has the 360 and is now on his 3rd one after a year and a half. The price may be right on the Xbox but personally I'd go for reliability of Sony's beast. On the other hand we don't get the Fable or Gears games so there is a trade-off :p (Infamous for the win!)

Microsoft shouldn't just use warranty as an excuse, they're basically saying "Yes, your 360 will break but we will give you a new one, hehe."

My friend had a 360 for 3 months, he took it into school one day so a Rock Band competition could be held, he switched on the 360. RROD. Fail.

Do you consider yourself a gamer? If its just for the achievements maybe you should get a great computer and get the orange box lol.
I have the Orange Box on both the PC and the 360, thank you very much. While I do most of my PC gaming through Steam, I am NOT a fan of Steam achievements because only a handful of titles support them. Now, I have been playing video games practically every day since the 8-bit era. So if you mean to imply that my affection for the 360 being based solely upon achievements somehow makes me less of a gamer, then I would choose to respond in the wise words of one Sir Schmoopy:.....question mark face?

It may appear that way on the surface if all you look at is a list of achievements and trophies for the same multi-platform game. But they are not the same system. Not even close. Trophies come in four different varieties depending on the difficulty it takes to earn. Bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Platinum trophies are only awarded by earning all of the other trophies in a particular game. You also earn "levels" by collecting more trophies.

Achievements give points. That's it. Some are worth more, some less. I prefer the simplicity of the achievement system...plus I think its aesthetics are better. I don't especially care for the way trophies are viewed on the PS3.

Your digging yourself in a hole. If you have the money to burn on expensive gaming hardware and only play for the achievements you should probably leave it in the bank.

Digging myself in a hole? Oh lol...

A 360 is hardly what I would consider "expensive gaming hardware". Beside that, who are you to tell me what I do with my money? Or to tell me how to enjoy what I spend my money on? If I play my 360 for achievements, that's my business. Doesn't mean my reasons for playing are wrong just because they're not your reasons.

Im not telling you to do anything, I am suggesting that just playing for achievements doesnt make sense to me.

Well I've had a xbox 360 since launch, it hadn't red ringed yet. So I can't immage the pain you all must go through. Then again I can totally see this a ps3 fantard's playground, and then the xbox fanbois will just defend it rabidly. Sigh, effectivelu making gamers everywhere look bad.
Hello you must be legally blind! I must day that is the first time I have ever heard the escapist considered Pro-PS3 when general concesus on the net is that it's Pro-360. I say general concensus but in they end they are just reporting news so it's in everyones heads, the community ITSELF is a majority of X-box owners so yeah this is the first time I've heard this one.
No but I guess you are, I never said the escapist was pro-ps3, I ment this topic. Stop putting words in my mouth please. I'm only saying that some people will come in, laugh at the xbox and call the ps3 better, then the xbox people will defend it to the death. You really need to reread some stuff :p.

wow are you WRONG again and really fooled by a shiny object dangled in front of you

the achievements all have the same set point value that line up with a bronze, silver and gold trophy

let's look at this and show you how wrong you are, i'll use the Resident Evil 5 Trophies/Achievments

the PS3 side first
A Cut Above (Bronze) Defeat 5 enemies with the Knife.
All Dressed Up (Silver) Purchase all available alternative costumes in Bonus Features.
War Hero (Gold) Complete all chapters on Professional.

now the 360 side of things
A Cut Above (15) Defeat 5 enemies with the Knife.
All Dressed Up (30) Purchase all available alternative costumes in Bonus Features.
War Hero (70) Complete all chapters on the most difficult setting.

notice all those points line up with one another? it's the same system, one you get a point for the other you get a trophy, both are the same

if you think they are different, then i've got some land for sale that you'd really like

No. They do not.

Look at Star Wars The Force Unleashed.

Xbox 360:
Sith Warrior (100)
Sith Lord (100)
Sith Master (100)

PS3:
Sith Warrior (Silver)
Sith Lord (Silver)
Sith Master (GOLD)

Need another?

Take a gander at Bioshock.

Xbox 360:
Maxed One Track (20)
Maxed All Tracks (50)

PS3:
Maxed One Track (Bronze)
Maxed All Tracks (BRONZE)

Do your research before you throw a temper tantrum.

thanx for proving my point

even tho you found 2 games you can show where they give a bit different amount of points/trophies but the other 99% give the same amount

you should really go look at a ton more to compare them

also having achievements really doesn't give you anything besides a big virtual , where they've long said earning certain trophies will give you certain things, they haven't fully implemented it

I'm avoiding my xbox at all costs, the stupid thing makes a loud humming noise that can be felt, yes felt, and heard downstairs.

It's my second one, the first one was a 20gb one and that was second hand so when it snuffed it the warranty had already expired. The arcade is so noisy though!

I know achievements don't give you anything, but I like them anyway. I have both a 360 and a PS3, so assuming Sony ever implements some kind of reward system for unlocking certain trophies, I may get more interested in the trophy system.

Explanation for the better sales figures:
1. First 7th-Gen console to exist(therefore out there longer and nothing else to replace but another 360 when it breaks)
2. Cheaper than PS3 until recently
3. 360 fanboys are so convinced it's better than PS3 that they go back for their third or fourth warranty exchange in a row(LOL n00bz, ur lame Sony console is SO inferior...S***! RROD again!)
