I have the Orange Box on both the PC and the 360, thank you very much. While I do most of my PC gaming through Steam, I am NOT a fan of Steam achievements because only a handful of titles support them. Now, I have been playing video games practically every day since the 8-bit era. So if you mean to imply that my affection for the 360 being based solely upon achievements somehow makes me less of a gamer, then I would choose to respond in the wise words of one Sir Schmoopy:.....question mark face?JWAN said:Do you consider yourself a gamer? If its just for the achievements maybe you should get a great computer and get the orange box lol.
It may appear that way on the surface if all you look at is a list of achievements and trophies for the same multi-platform game. But they are not the same system. Not even close. Trophies come in four different varieties depending on the difficulty it takes to earn. Bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Platinum trophies are only awarded by earning all of the other trophies in a particular game. You also earn "levels" by collecting more trophies.cleverlymadeup said:it's the same system tho, all the multi-platform games have the exact same trophies/achievements. so really you hate both if you hate the one. tho they've said they are considering giving bonuses for getting certain trophies
Your digging yourself in a hole. If you have the money to burn on expensive gaming hardware and only play for the achievements you should probably leave it in the bank.DRADIS C0ntact said:I have the Orange Box on both the PC and the 360, thank you very much. Im not telling you to do anything, I am suggesting that just playing for achievements doesnt make sense to me.DRADIS C0ntact said:Digging myself in a hole? A 360 is hardly what I would consider "expensive gaming hardware". Beside that, who are you to tell me what I do with my money? Or to tell me how to enjoy what I spend my money on? If I play my 360 for achievements, that's my business. Doesn't mean my reasons for playing are wrong just because they're not your reasons.
No but I guess you are, I never said the escapist was pro-ps3, I ment this topic. Stop putting words in my mouth please. I'm only saying that some people will come in, laugh at the xbox and call the ps3 better, then the xbox people will defend it to the death. You really need to reread some stuffOnmi said:Hello you must be legally blind! I must day that is the first time I have ever heard the escapist considered Pro-PS3 when general concesus on the net is that it's Pro-360. I say general concensus but in they end they are just reporting news so it's in everyones heads, the community ITSELF is a majority of X-box owners so yeah this is the first time I've heard this one.Durahan2 said:Well I've had a xbox 360 since launch, it hadn't red ringed yet. So I can't immage the pain you all must go through. Then again I can totally see this a ps3 fantard's playground, and then the xbox fanbois will just defend it rabidly. Sigh, effectivelu making gamers everywhere look bad.
wow are you WRONG again and really fooled by a shiny object dangled in front of youDRADIS C0ntact said:It may appear that way on the surface if all you look at is a list of achievements and trophies for the same multi-platform game. Achievements give points. That's it. Some are worth more, some less. I prefer the simplicity of the achievement system...plus I think its aesthetics are better. I don't especially care for the way trophies are viewed on the PS3.
No. They do not.cleverlymadeup said:wow are you WRONG again and really fooled by a shiny object dangled in front of youDRADIS C0ntact said:It may appear that way on the surface if all you look at is a list of achievements and trophies for the same multi-platform game. the achievements all have the same set point value that line up with a bronze, silver and gold trophy
let's look at this and show you how wrong you are, i'll use the Resident Evil 5 Trophies/Achievments
the PS3 side first
A Cut Above (Bronze) Defeat 5 enemies with the Knife.
All Dressed Up (Silver) Purchase all available alternative costumes in Bonus Features.
War Hero (Gold) Complete all chapters on Professional.
now the 360 side of things
A Cut Above (15) Defeat 5 enemies with the Knife.
All Dressed Up (30) Purchase all available alternative costumes in Bonus Features.
War Hero (70) Complete all chapters on the most difficult setting.
notice all those points line up with one another? it's the same system, one you get a point for the other you get a trophy, both are the same
if you think they are different, then i've got some land for sale that you'd really like
thanx for proving my pointDRADIS C0ntact said:No. They do not.
Look at Star Wars The Force Unleashed.
Xbox 360:
Sith Warrior (100)
Sith Lord (100)
Sith Master (100)
PS3:
Sith Warrior (Silver)
Sith Lord (Silver)
Sith Master (GOLD)
Need another?
Take a gander at Bioshock.
Xbox 360:
Maxed One Track (20)
Maxed All Tracks (50)
PS3:
Maxed One Track (Bronze)
Maxed All Tracks (BRONZE)
Do your research before you throw a temper tantrum.
I know achievements don't give you anything, but I like them anyway. I have both a 360 and a PS3, so assuming Sony ever implements some kind of reward system for unlocking certain trophies, I may get more interested in the trophy system.cleverlymadeup said:also having achievements really doesn't give you anything besides a big virtual , where they've long said earning certain trophies will give you certain things, they haven't fully implemented it
