I once read a statistic that the average gamer is around 35, so you're not alone. However, I can't say how many of them lurk on this site.

Seriously though, old folk can be fun to have around.

OT: I'm only 28 this year so not quite there yet, but i have seen quite a few on this forums and elsewhere that are middle aged and love their games. Honestly the teens are just a vocal minority, and in the forum not an issue as the younger ones seem to be more mature around here.
I'll kindly leave if 28 is too young.....

Hello Rob! I'm 35 and you'll have to pry that controller out of my cold dead hands before I ever quit. Been gaming since I was very young with an Atari 2600. So I'm close to being middle age even if I don't look it.

43 here, about to go to 44. And I can't remember the first game I played, but I do remember selling the SNES and Sega Genesis when they hit the shelves (I used to work in a toy store). And out of that generation, Altered Beast was as good as it got.

I just turned 30 this year so I've still got a ways to go before middle-aged. However, it's nice to know, from reading other posts on this thread, that I'm not so alone amongst all these young'uns. Long belated welcome!

In my late 30s, tho I don't consider that middle aged at all. Gimme about 15 years or so, THEN I'll be middle-aged.

Welcome to the forums.

I heard similar... 32 year old male if I remember correct.

OT: I turn 30 this year, so not "middle" aged as much as third aged... assuming I make it that long.

for some perspective, I remember going to the computer lab in jr high school where we had teletype computers... used to love playing Trek73. I remember the first Space Invaders machine when it went into the corner diner on Main St. in my hometown. Our PTA made it on local NY news for protesting arcade machines being near the schools... I remember buying a Wico joystick so I could play Gorf on my Commodore Vic-20. I remember finding 50$ on a sidewalk in Phoenix when I was 12 and taking it to the biggest arcade I find on a weekday morning and spending half the day there, practically alone, playing Crazy Climber and Stun Runner and Star Castles and Vanguard, Elevator Action, Jungle Hunt.... I remember yelling NOOOO!!! when the Mother Brain killed the giant Metroid in Super Metroid. I remember a friend at work asking me if I'd seen FF VII and saying no and my jaw hitting the floor when I saw how large the game was...

and I'm 45 and here I am playing Shadowrun again... ha!

-Hey thanks for all the hits, seriously :) again, you guys made my day- ^ _ ^

...

I think I'm 35.

I like rum alot, so that might be wrong.

I play video games, but I'm more of a table-top RPGer.

Enjoy the Escapist!

I turned thirty last June, and I'm still every bit of a gamer and general geek as I was back in my teens. Glad to have you onboard, Bob! Like others said, you'll find that we're generally a mature bunch, apart for the occasional forum topic that betrays a slightly confused teenaged mind or a sort of quarter-life crisis in the making.

The whole "Fake Gamer Girl" thing, for instance. That, to me, is seriously kids' stuff. Or the berjillion "Am I the only one who [blank]?" threads.

30 years old and still a die hard gamer. I will, very rarely now days, still pull 6 or 7 hour gaming sessions. I probably average 1 hour a night overall.

Am I the only one who finds that fake gamer girls have ruined JRPG's by being under-represented in modern games, as commented on by Anita Sarkeesian?

Those kinds of threads?

Exactly those kinds of threads. XD

You forgot the all-important issues of so-called "feminazis", gun ownership in America, religion, casual racism and the occasional upteenth thread about the OP just generally not giving a fuck about life or personal advancement anymore because he or she has experienced a bit of the old Sartrian principle of Contingency - i.e. general existential angst.

Aside from that, that was a great simulation of a typical irksome topic.

I'm 18 been gaming for most of my life sadly lol. Have to say its refreshing to have older gamers in a call but they don't seem to latch on to the trash talking of the younger ones. Me and my friends say the most gruesome stuff to each other and most of the older guys won't even talk lol. Of course no one takes anything seriously and quite rarely do we strike a nerve with each other but if we do its usually fixed within like 5 minutes.

While I'm nowhere NEAR middle age (21),my father is an avid (if graphics snobbish) gamer. At fifty-four. He's the one that got me into it fifteen years ago.

My grandmother was a gamer in her early 80s: She was particularly fond of the Combat City Builder genre.

Jeff Green from the old Computer Gaming World magazine is in his 50s. He talked about World of Warcraft more than anything else in his regular Greenspeak full page article.

30 here, but one of my favorite gamers of all time was in his 70's. I played against him in Aion, and he was always a riot. Knew a few guys in their 40's too (one played with his two kids), they were all cool. Welcome to the forums.
