As Bill Mayer joked in his new rules last week. 'Middle aged women going to see the new Bieber movie who are not taking their kids or reviewing the movie, should be put on the sex offenders register.'

Middle aged men going to see a movie based on the life of an under 16 female pop star, would get a few problems, I would imagine. Just imagine the senario of Justin Bieber and his middle aged fans, then just reverse the sexes. How come no-one bats an eyelid when women behave in the same way. Is this another demonstration of double standard regarding adult attraction to minors by the different sexes.

Discuss....

Edit: I have nothing against Bieber or his success....
Edit 2: To explain that Bill Mayer's comments were a joke, as this keeps getting missed. My bad...

Would they really? I can't think why.

There has always been a double standard between men and women. So this doesn't surprise me. Anyways, the women cant really be put on a sex offender list if they aren't enacting on their desires. To me they are just getting a service in which they paid for, in this case a concert.

This is certainly something that ought to make people feel uncomfortable at least. It's similar (if not worse) to the adult woman who go to Twilight films to oggle Edward, though at least his actor must be at least 20ish. I agree that if the genders were reversed it would raise a lot of eyebrows. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if a man going to see the Bieber film would recieve funny looks anyway.

Big who cares?

Seriously. The exact same argument could be said for ANY movie with ANY kid in it.

Bill is just stirring the pot (versus just smoking it).

So fans should not be allowed to take part in what they enjoy because of their age? Well if that's the case, then no middle aged men or woman should play video games with main characters under the age of 18.

Aaaaand winner!

You can't prejudge a person just because they're going to see a fucking movie.

Realize this, OP:

Maybe... the woman... likes Bieber...

As much as I hate to admit it, some people just like the music. There was a Kenny Chesney movie released over the summer, which men, women, and children went to see it, with no one batting an eye. Now, if the middle age women get a bit too...rowdy...that'd be creepy, but lets not label people as creepy child molesters just because they enjoy a 16 year old singer.

I personally enjoy Paramore very much. Is it weird and creepy to enjoy their first album because Hayley Williams was 17 when it was released?

It's weird but, y'know, it's up to them. It's not like they're going to sexually assault him through the screen. And would you really complain if you were 16 and a bunch of MILFs wanted to shag you?

Because women and men, contrary to popular belief are NOT equal.

And that's okay.

Compare the way men act at a strip club (silent and greedy, "want to make her mine" vibe) with the way women act at a Chippendales show (cheerful and joyous, "here to have a good time" vibe).

Oh yeah, if either actually does something unwanted they're just as liable though. The law doesn't discriminate on that one. Though, judges and juries do. (And the Sharia but that's a whole different story.)

And I agree. There is nothing wrong with anyone going to see it. Its this kind of reaction that if it were men... well you get the idea.
I understand what he is getting at, but calling a person a sex offender for watching a movie, reading a certain book or playing a certain video game is silly and stupid, regardless of gender.

Woah, woah... No-one is saying they should 'really' go on the register for seeing a movie. Bill Mayer was making a joke. Do I need to explain what a joke is to people? But underneath that joke was a real thought about double standards, hence the discussion.

If middle aged men behaved the same way as middle aged female Bieber and Twilight fans, people would not be happy. That's a fact. You think a bunch of middle aged men queing for a Hana Montana concert / movie would not raise any eyebrows?
