If we switched the gender that would never happen? Don't you remember Brittany Spears - hit me baby one more time. She was the same age(16), and believe me middle aged men liked her. Did middle age men go out and gush about how much they loved her with signs no, but teenage boys don't even do that so that's a poor way to judge.
You're right, but the older men who like 17 year old Britney Spears were seen as 'dirty pervs' as if there was something mentally wrong and disturbing with them. The Twilight Moms are seen as having 'bad taste' or whatever. That is the double standard.

Just a thought, but I blame the hack feminists who moan on about males being dirty cavemen motivated by sex and food with our 'Carnal' desires and such crap, this just goes to show women act no different, they have just ignored the similarities of the twilight moms and such and chalk it up to other things.
Well male sexuality isn't prized as much cause it's... less rare ;) Even young guys where seen as sorta pervy for liking her(then again Bieber isn't dressed in 1/2 a catholic school girls outfit and sucking on a lollipop).

I hate when people pervert the word feminist, it means equal not better. It just ends up fueling more sexism on both sides. We have to both accept some of the natural differences between the sexes. Of course women act like this cause in reality we are both dirty fucking cave people, our brains are the same the only difference is our society has amassed a much lager collective knowledge. Physically we are the same animal.

Welcome the home of the double standard.

Older women attracted to younger guys have so many names
Milf
Cougar
Cradle Robber

Older men attracted to younger girls only have one name
Pedophile

then when somebody does try to even the score they even it in the wrong way

16 year old's are hot, does no legislator understand that?

For some reason a lot of guys seem to forget the reverse scenarios when presented with Beiber or Taylor Lautner. The Olsens, Spearses, Many Moores, Dakota Fannings, etc. who have literally had web pages dedicated to when they would turn "legal". Britney Spears was a nationally recognized sex symbol at 16 and no one batted an eye.

There really is no double standard here. If we're going to take into account that females sexually mature faster than males, there should be more of a double standard.

Edit: Special bonus to t.A.t.U., who were 15 at the time of their steamy music video.

It's weird but, y'know, it's up to them. It's not like they're going to sexually assault him through the screen. And would you really complain if you were 16 and a bunch of MILFs wanted to shag you?
I doubt they're MILFs. Middle 'agged' women =/= attractive all the time.
In my head, they are MILFs. Don't take that away from me!

Yes, it is unhealthy, and yes, IT IS STILL PEDOPHILIA. Just because they are women doesn't mean it isn't still REALLY creepy. That is all.

Middle aged men going to see a movie based on the life of an under 16 female pop star, would get a few problems, I would imagine.
Would they really? I can't think why.

As I recall people were called on it frequently. And is there really a site dedicated to when Dakota Fanning turns legal?

Maybe they like Bieber's singing, and want to see the in-concert bits?

It's at the point where they spend the non-concert bits going "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" that we have cause to be concerned.

I only specifically remember seeing a "countdown" website for the Olsens when it was pretty close. If you Google "Dakota Fanning Legal" there's no shortage of results. There's actually a lot of "Now she's legal in ". My main point was that gawking over barely or soon-to-be women is hardly uncommon or universally frowned upon.

Apparently it was "no less than 7" sites [http://www.seattlepi.com/lifestyle/179579_jailbaitstars.html] about the Olsen twins. They go away shortly after they become legal because sex fantasies just aren't as fun after you've been legal for a week. I didn't hear anything particularly loud or mainstream complaining about the Olsens or even Fanning. You get the occasional thread on an internet forum, but it wasn't a widespread taboo. So yeah, I just don't see the double standard.

I think the double standard is more about older women finding younger men attractive strange. And I think it has more to do with our emphasis on extreme masculinity.

Ok, so we have some 40 year old women into a 16 year old who looks 13, sounds 12.

I get it, they like Shatacon. Is there anything new?

Definitely some unwarranted double standards at play if it's considered a problem that older men go watch a teen movie, while older women watching them isn't.

...Whether either scenario is actually considered a problem though, I'm not really too sure of. And it wouldn't really be a problem anyway, I'm sure the guy have plenty of people around him at his concerts who would ensure that he isn't seduced by some retired grandma.

Im amazed at how many people aren't getting the point.

Imagine, if you will, a movie about a girl of 14 who has shot to stardom.

Now imagine that among the little boys and girls going to see that film with their parents there were about 5 big hairy blokes with no kids going to watch it to.

Getting some red lights, correct?

The OP is angry about the fact that whilst those 5 men would be shunned 5 women doing the same thing (replacing 14 year old girl with 14 year old boy) is perfectly fine.

The Dakota Fanning one just creeps me out...

I do remember a Robot Chicken episode that called people out on the whole "Dude their legal now!" thing. I also could have sworn that there has been other criticisms but I can not remember any specifics.

OP says exactly my point. Not the other stuff about how seedy men can be, that's a given.
Exactly

OP says sorry, for the offender overload, but it is a topical question. And also this is not designed to be one of those threads about is being attracted to the young OK. If for the purposes of this thread it isn't (really not having that discussion again), how come middle aged women can be so overt about it....

And for the last time the sex offender comment was Bill Mayer's and a JOKE. No-one is seriously saying that anyone going to the Bieber movie or another movie like this, should be ona register. But there is no way I could ever see middle aged men being able to behave for a girl who's a minor, the way middle aged women do for Bieber mania. No, it would not be illegal, but men who acted that way would be punished, just not by the law. Just saying....

Do you really care about middle aged women?
Why would it matter if middle agers get wet for some Bieber?

Because it's weird when men do it?
Who cares, we all know the creepy rapist stereotype, it's hardly ever a women, question solved.
(men and women are not equal, we are not that far in progress)

Sorry if this felt like a rant, I guess it kinda was.

That's still pretty far from mainstream. The people freaking out about how men would be 'branded as pedophiles' or 'shunned' are delusional. It's seen as pretty strange or creepy in both cases, but it's hardly something that's going to make you a pariah.

Yeahh. Pretty much, as long as the older crowd isn't going around rapin' kids and all that, let them do whatever. Some older women wanna drool over Bieber? Fine. Some older men wanna drool over...Hannah Montana? (I don't know who the female Disney star is now)? Fine. As long as they don't actually hurt anybody, then let them be.
