Since almost no one is talking about it [for good freaking reason], I'll open a discussion about it myself. What are your thoughts on the latest Mighty No. 9 trailer?

Do I need to say anything? At all? It was at E3 2014 that this game was at the top of the world, and it all went downhill from there, to the point that (at the time of this writing) the trailer doesn't come close to cracking 100k views and with four million in budget I expected it would look a little bit better than a Xbox launch title.

I like the part where the character Vernon talks and the narrator shuts him. 'Who's Vernon?' you may ask. It's a character introduced in a previous trailer described as "the weird dude who lives down the street". His presence sums up this entire situation, something that could have been left the way it was in that one trailer, but they dedided to remind us and bring it back in all of it cringe-worthty glory in an attempt to make it happen.

But who knows? Maybe I'm still holding into the Nostalgia Goggles and looking for reasons to complain, whatever is the case I will now ask a question regarding this whole situation that may or may not have been asked before, but whose answers I'm really looking forward to hear: Was the Kickstarter successful because of how much people want Megaman back, or because of how much people were doing this to spite Capcom for all of its mistreatment of the Blue Bomber? Let me explain my reasoning [maybe I'm over-thinking this, maybe not]:

After not one, not two, but four Megaman games were pitched, announced, then cancelled, the fans were in despair. Then suddenly appears Inafune wishing to restore faith to the fans, to finally give not only Capcom, but the whole AAA market a lesson about how they did not listen their fans and show to a newer generation a great series that went missing, all of this using Mighty No. 9 (The Mega Man rose by any other name). With a proposal like this it's hard to think twice, some wanted the game, but others wanted to send this message. Even if this game was to fail, the people would have spoken. But then the messenger got ambitious and he accidentaly turned into the system that unbeknowst to him, he was fighting. Now the message lost its meaning and fell on deaf years.

Sorry if I made you read all of this just to make a point, but I just had to get this out of my chest, I didn't want to bring the Dina Karam fiasco, the Red Ashes disaster or the delays, because I didn't want this to be longer than it needed to be.

Wait, what are going on about OP? As a huge fan of Mega Man, the game itself looks fine even if the trailer is cheesy as hell.

And this is why I don't follow internet politics. Objectivity gets tossed in the can in the face of the oversensitive culture of internet negativity.

I read your post several times over looking for what actually ails you OP, yet all I saw was you regurgitating the detritus of some soap opera surrounding the politics of this games kickstarter.

I didn't know Spaghetti-os were going to make a special cameo as the explosion effect in Mighty No. 9.

My excitement is palpable. Really.

This trailer is just the most recent bizarre production choice made by the No. 9 developers, in a long line of choices made, seemingly as an experiment to see how much it takes to burn down the biggest pile of goodwill ever assembled, with perhaps the exception of Star Citizen. It's a game that had pretty much every living gamer rooting for it, and they've spent a year trying their best to whittle that number down to nothing.

From what I've heard, the game is actually pretty good. Which makes everything I see coming out to the public from this game all the more bizarre.

EDIT: Also, for some reason, the games graphics look really bad to me. Like someone upped the resolution on an N64 game or something.

I really can't not laugh at fan art of this game that was made three years ago. I'm going by how much people aren't liking what they're seeing of course, no idea if the game is actually good.

I like the bit in the trailer where the narrator says "frigging", also the part where he insults everyone who paid for the game:

"And make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night"
I haven't really been following this game or its Kickstarter and only really know about it from gossip about its infamously troubled development, but was getting mocked in the trailer for being an emotionally stunted lonely forever virgin one of the official Kickstarter rewards, or was it a little extra they sneaked in as a surprise and a thank you for all the fans who had shown faith and stuck with them through thick and thin?

Still, it's a bold new approach to advertising games and while it may not be the safest approach to advertising your product, it will surely pay dividends to the few brave lunatics who have the balls to reach out to their audience in such a manner and is something that will brighten up all future E3 events for many years to come.

Wait, its not out yet? I thought it came out and was bad and that that's why everyone has been hating on it.

Though everyone hated on Star Fox Zero and I liked that, so I guess I shouldn't listen to people.

That's exactly what I was thinking about six months ago: I still can't believe the game isn't out. I thought it came out, sucked, people bitched, and then it was quietly forgotten. But nope, here we are months/years later and I'm still surprised every time there's an announcement about it (doubly so when the announcement isn't "look, it's done!").

OT: I wonder if they're trying to kill the goodwill they built up to try and get people to be more realistic about the game instead of being disappointed that it wasn't jesus in a megaman costume. Otherwise, I don't understand what they're thinking. I wonder if it has something to do with the language barrier.

Well aside from the obnoxious tone of the narration the actual gameplay elements seem quite interesting, certainly looks fluid in action.

Whether or not it lives up to the expectations of the people who backed i guess we'll have to wait and see. Personaly as somone who didn't back it and has little interest to begin with, this looks pretty much exactly like i thought it would but with an even more cartoony aesthetic than i had imagined.

Wait, I had to watch it again to see what everyone was talking about in terms of "insulting the fanbase" cuz that totally went over my head.

Stop it. Everyone just stop it. No one of sound mental health could take offense to so trifling a comment. If their sensibilities really were that fragile then I'd say the poor dears had bigger fish to fry. You people are really digging deep to put dat negative internet stank on this product.

Stop it.

I think my favorite part about the anime line is that Comcept is also trying to make an animesque game (Red Ash) as a homage to the animesque Megaman game (Legends/Dash) and are, in fact, making an anime about it too.

Japanese developers seem be be incapable of going indie. Maybe they are so used to rigid corporate structures that they have no capacity to to engage with the grass roots.

I accidentally Kickstarted a project from a Japanese indie a while back (I didn't do my due diligence, they asked for USD so I assumed.) Literally 0 interaction since kickstarting. A bi-monthly newsletter and and the website hasn't even been updated with a forum yet.

Maybe Bloodstained will prove me wrong.

I'm ambivalent. But then, I've always been somewhat ambivalent towards the Mega Man series. I dunno, these kind of games just never seem to "click" with me for whatever reason.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out where they supposedly insulted the fanbase in the trailer. Was it the whole "cry like an anime fan on prom night" bit? Yeah it was cringe-y, but I'm not seeing how it's some kind of personal attack.

Also, can I just say how I don't really feel much sympathy for the supposed turmoil Mega Man fans have gone through over the past few years? I mean for God's sake, look at all the games you've gotten over the decades...

Meanwhile my favorite Capcom franchise (Viewtiful Joe) died after four games, two of which were spinoffs, with no resolution or closure to the series' story. Cry me a river.[footnote]Bitter? Who, me?[/footnote]

People are upset because the person in charge of the Twitter page went nuts. Also, there were some delays. I get why backers would get upset, I guess, but the only thing I care about is the finished product... Which so far looks pretty good.

Huh? I was awared they had presented their trailers in that way (I haven't seen the lat one the OP mention) until I wathched this trailer.

Exluding the narrator, the trailer itself look fine to me althought I think they should had kept a similar trailer akin to the kickstarter one (the one with the theme song in it).

I'm sorry what am I supposed to be outraged about? Is this still about a evil ess jay doubleu infiltrator somehow ruining the game by tweeting something? Because its not the gameplay, that actually looked quite good. Sure that trailer was weaponized cringe, but so was "your mom hates Dead Space 2" and DS2 is easily one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm in no hurry to let a trailer alter my opinion of a game.
