I'm fairly certain the Black Panthers weren't free market capitalists, which is the defining trait of liberals.

Just like that doesn't define progressives, who also generally aren't liberal.
There are liberal socialist too..
Like I said, context is everything.
AND, oddly enough, Liberal communists?

From my understanding, different nations have different political affiliations with the term, but the word in general in the English language is a synonym of progressive.
This is literally a discussion about its use in politics and how it related to political leanings and/or parties. You don’t get to hide behind a secondary adjective definition in this case because you made a whoopsy.

This is how I have always referred to this, and already had this discussion with Revnak in another thread.. It isn't a " whoopsy" , though I think I like that word. I have never heard the word " whoopsy" but then again, English wasn't my first language.

The political ideas of conservative and liberal both predate the common parlance. It's one of my favorite etymological fun facts.

The idea of liberal politics is half a millenium old, referring basically to a "you take care of yourself" attitude. Liberal means the same thing in the US as elsewhere, and the weird disconnect between US liberal and other places liberal stems from the shifted focus between economic and social policy, where US politics more often defines people by social policy than other cultures do, and we have a lot of socially liberal but economically progressive types. The use of liberal to mean something like "open to change" is a recent bastardization of language. Similarly, conservative as a political idea is centuries old. Conservative to mean "cautious or stingy" is very, very recent and should not be the basis of your outlook. To quote this website:
"Phrases such as conservative estimate, in which it means "characterized by caution, deliberately low," make no sense etymologically. "

In Native American politics, Conservative = traditionalist, Liberal= progressive, and how it literally translates from our languages into English.
Far from a "modern bastardization" this has been going on a long time.

Well, by my description, a traditionalist preserves the past, a conservative preserves the status quo, a progressive builds off the status quo, and a revolutionary seeks to destroy the status quo. Liberal isn't really a point on that axis.

I was born on a reservation, I have NEVER worked as a nurse, and I have never heard the word Whoopsy in my life before now, and no I don't need to " make shit up" as my life is complicated enough as it is to have to add more to it. You haven't been keeping up.

What world do you live in where people walk around saying " whoopsy" ? Is that a thing where you live or something? It isn't here. It is like you have this cartoon version of Texas in your head or something. Sure, my life FEELS like a cartoon but that sounds like something that would be said when someone passed gas or something.
I don't even know what I am reading here:

Okay then, what previous unused word would you use to describe the Black Panthers to show their liberal values of progression and open to new ideas, but differentiates them from the not liberal enough by our standards liberalism of LBJ and JFK?

My grandmother definitely has said "whoopsy", or sometimes even "whoopsy-daisy".

Such innocent (and sudden) misunderstandings of "foreign English words" helps build her case that she doesn't know what words mean, so people will be more sympathetic towards her for not understanding what "liberal" means. She's assassinating her own character in such a way that when she falls, she'll land on a pillow.

It's like a cross between an excuse and a humblebrag. "Oh, excuse me for being multilingual and not knowing the subtleties of your jargon. My people do not believe in dictionaries."

Maybe use their own fucking words? They were Revolutionary Black Liberationists. They were Socialists, Communists. You could add on Marxist or Maoist due to their ideological stances but I feel describing them by the name of a white (and honestly pretty racist) dude is off and Maoism is complicated for a modern leftist to understand with zero context.

So "whoopsy" means "oops." Urban dictionary remains a weird place.

Medical worker, whatever, fuck, just, I genuinely do not understand the alien reality you perceive. And no, it’s not the fucking Native American elements, that makes perfect sense. It’s all this other weird shit.

Doctrine of Medicine = MD, not Nurse, Not "Medical worker" I am a Pediatrician. TYVM. My Degrees are in Immunology and Pediatric Medicine. Liberal Native American candidates are the OPPOSITE of conservatives. Liberal and progressive mean the exact same thing on the reservation BTW. That isn't " weird shit" that is how it has been for a long time now.
