It does get pretty lonely in single player. To be honest, if they want to make the game feel more lively they should add actual humans. For e.g. you would just wander around and find a village. You could trade there, buy tools etc. You could either help them or destroy their village and enslave them so they end up guarding your castle or maybe just keeping them in dungeons and asking for a ransom from the local lord. There are just so many ideas that could be added to the game it's insane. It's getting there though.
That's exactly what I've been thinking! People, villages and shops. If those were added, I would buy it immediately. I haven't bought it yet because I think I would probably get lonely and bored.

Oh... Goody...

Yet another wonderfully pointless accessory to a game that will never actually be released.

Ok i hope there is a way to tell them to stay in an area. Last thing I need is my hunting pack falling to their death because they wanted to follow me into Moria (my major mine) or Alpha mine (for lapis lazuli and trees).

Although a hunting pack might make my monster traps kinda pointless...

Then they are usless for guarding my sky fortress!
Firstly, why would you need to guard your sky fortress? Unless they maybe add dragons...
Secondly, they'll be able to spawn if there's enough room around the edge/in the grounds of your sky fortress.
Thirdly, I'm in the middle of making a sky fortress at the moment :D So much better than pathetic *ground* fortresses ;)

Single player isn't boring during the first week but after that it gets lonely. I mean you've got your fortress of doom and now what? I do have get creative once in a full moon and end up making something amazing but in the end, I can build everything I can think of with the free version. There's just not enough single player content. If the world felt more lively then minecraft would have an amazing single player. As it stands...

The multiplayer portion is amazing though. I fully suggest you buy it with the mindset of playing multiplayer and not single player. Multiplayer adds a whole new goddamn layer to the game. Hell, I should know. I spent 24 hours straight playing SMP with a friend building a huge underground complex. We slept for 5 hours and the moment we woke up we went on adventuring. 18 hours later and a dozen burnt forests later we were still going strong. It's quite amazing what multiplayer can do to a game.

My thoughts exactly. It would be a massive pain building a land bridge to my floating shack.

But still, might help with spider defense while I'm on the go.

When it's already this good, who the fuck cares?

I'm excited for this update, pets seem like a pretty good addition to Minecraft. It'd be good if in multiplayer the collars were different colours for different players so you don't get confused, assuming they have them in MP.

Build a water elevator? Atleast then, they can get up.

Can't wait to raise an army of wolves and invade the city on the multiplayer server I'm playing on.

As long as it's not TOO easy to tame them and teach them manners, so to speak.. I would love to have one, faithful dog instead of just being able to tame dozens of them.

I can imagine myself shedding a lone tear after watching the dog who has been my loyal companion for months die in a creeper blast...

If they can figure out a way to make you develop a proper friendship with your pet, this could be an amazing addition.

As nice as this may be (See: dwarf fortress) for me minecraft is all about the felling of being one block...man against whatever the world cares to throw at him. I can't ever feel nearly as immersed in multiplayer games and I think it would lose a lot of what makes it special.

Only one way to find out.

But it eventually gets boring. The main flaw of minecraft is it's lack of diversity to keep it going in single player at least. You can make your own adventure but eventually you've got yourself a perfect house, gathered enough diamonds to make your Willy happy and creepers can't even touch you. It gets monotone eventually since there's nothing to do in survival after a while. Diversity is what will get rid of monotony. It will give you something more to do. You can still be one man against everything. You can just ignore the villages since they won't directly impact gameplay unless you want them to.

Any mob can climb up stairs, they just need to walk into the stairs to go up, it's hilarious to see mobs climbing them just by ranmdom walking.

And hte update will be next week, yay i only have 2 work days :D

Aww... That's gonna be a lot of fun. It'll help curb a bit of the "loneliness" feel that single player can tend to bring on. Cute.
