The thing is DF is actually 3d game seen in a 2d ascii interface. you can feed the data into 3D modelling software called 'Stonesense' and it will translate the data to show you what your fortress looks like. That's where Notch got the idea for Minecraft from (I think.)

The AI and management structure of DF is amazing. If those guys combined forces to make a DF/Minecraft highbrid there would be big money there I think.

Edit: I stared at the word highbrid for a really long time and I'm still not sure I spelled it correctly...lol

I think that DF is kind of hard to get into compared to Minecraft and the ASCII graphics are a bit like huh? I'm a big geek and even I use a tileset.

I don't think Minecraft being successful is a slight on DF at all and people shouldn't take it as such. Hopefully becuase Notch is a big fan Mojang will take Bay12 with them into that success. Which is only a good thing.

There is more to a company. A game make an awesome game but than come out with a shameless cash grab sequel. I wouldn't want to vote for them after something like that. Minecraft is legos with +30 more awesome and you old people probably spent a lot of time playing with legos even though they are just blocks.

Apparently that's what most people here seem to think if the voting is any indication.

Minecraft is better than Mario, Pokemon, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Half Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3/NV, Resident Evil, Team Fortress, Elder Scrolls, Borderlands, The witcher, and oh god I could just go on and on.

Sure you could almost apply this to any dev that's winning or won March Mayhem, but the point here is that they had games. Not some game that is in beta and not even officially released. At least in the end Zynga didn't win last time, here though, it looks like Mojang going to. Can anyone really sit here and tell me it deserves to win more than ANY other developer?

I haven't taken part in any of the shenanigans of March Mayhem, so maybe I'm out of line, but it seems to me that people are upset because the world doesn't work the way they wish it did...

Every post I read that bitches about how Mojang or any other developer shouldn't have gotten as far as they have needs to consider the idea that, if there are some companies that are just "not supposed to make it", then there IS no point to the brackets, because it's a foregone conclusion. It's a contest of popularity. Of COURSE that's what it is, hence the voting. That's kinda the point.

If anybody is anything more than mildly disconcerted over the results of March Mayhem thus far, then those people are only interested in the validation of their own likes and dislikes.

I voted Bioware- they've done more for the industry, and consistently keep putting out good quality stuff. They deserve it more.

If you're only going by games released in the last year, then Mojang shouldn't even be in the running. They have never released a game.

Minecraft is still in beta. Even if it wasn't still in beta, saying it's better than even 1 of Blizzard/Bioware/Valve's games is laughable.

It's not the rule.
It would make more sense if it applied. Clearly it doesn't. Minecraft isn't being voted on its merits - if it was it would be laughed out of town for being a game incomplete nearly two years after its release.
