I have both the PC and 360 version. I have 5 kids, so getting them together or playing with them, they love it. If I'm going to play solo, I'd much rather play on the computer where I have giant worlds, amplified biomes, up to date content, and mods.

Why use console instead of PC?

PC has custom texture packs, skins and (my favourite) mods!
I just flat out can't be arsed with PC Minecraft specifically because of the faffing about with texture packs, skins and mods, the different launchers, the enormous game worlds (although I do think the console worlds could stand to be about 9-16 times as big as they currently are), the griefers, and the general vibe of high-functioning geekiness that accompanies it.

I like being able to play splitscreen, in bed, in front of a large TV. I like the simplicity of jumping into a friend;s game or hosting my own map without every 12-year old chucklefuck and their dog "hilariously" pouring lava over my creations or encasing my bedroom in obsidian. I like the fact that you can explore the world in a few hours and have made settlements in each corner linked with a rail system within a week or two. It's not some overblown, endlessly expansive timesink, which I suspect the PC version borders on being for some people.

I sure as hell don't pay money for the skins though. Each new skin pack generally has a few freebies, so I use one of them if I want to try new skins out.

So does console Minecraft. The only differences between the two versions are the world size (which is much bigger on the PC) and the version history (PC build is currently on version 1.9, 360 version for example is roughly equivalent to 1.4 but has many 1.5 and 1.6 features as well).

Why buy a game on one platform and not another? Well I know two people who have the spare cash needed to maintain a competitively spec'd gaming PC, I know seven or eight people who game on Playstations and I know over twenty people who game on 360s. I simply pick the platform that will allow me to game with the most number of friends.

Why the hell are these anti-console threads not closed right away and the OP issued a warning? This PC elitist bullshit needs to stop.

Why play on the console? The controller and not having to remember all the damn recipes. Connecting to multiplayer games is much much easier. In fact, I have never gotten the multiplayer working on the PC.

It irritates me that the changes to the console versions have been purposely left out of the PC version. Why make multiplayer a pain in the ass? Why do PC players still need to remember all the recipes? Why isn't the 360 controller an option for PC players?

It's the same as the usual PC vs Consoles debate. Yes, PC is objectively superior in almost every aspect but as long as people are making informed decisions on it, I can't see why there's a problem. At the end of the day it just comes down to personal preference.

I got Minecraft for my 360 because it was convenient. I didn't have any intention of modding it in any way, I just wanted to pop in the disk and play with blocks. I got to play with blocks while lounging in bed, and didn't have to clean up or store the blocks when I was done. I got everything I wanted out of it.

Because why the hell not?

I do not give 2 shits about texture packs, skins and mods and I like to play games in my living room.
Not to mention that the 360 version has a ton of skin packs, and a bunch of texture packs, too. (I dont know if they have added any yet to the PS3)

Can anyone explain why you would realistically choose Console over PC?
I have a really crap laptop and I don't feel like hooking it up to the TV every time I feel like playing on a decent screen or with a co-op buddy.

It's quite simple why I got it for the 360, it was cheap & I didn't have to fight with my ancient HP to get it to work. I've even committed the greatest of sins... I bought a texture pack. I really do need some friends to play it with though, that would be nice.

I'm planning on getting it for a console for one reason and one reason alone. The PS Vita is a portable device. As I spend about 2-3 hours on the train a day, Minecraft would be a fun way to pass the time, and I'm not nearly as bothered by grindiness when I have nothing better to do in the first place

A lot of people prefer to play in their living room using their TV as a screen and a controller as their input device of choice. Most of them haven't realized that they can plug an HDMI cable and a controller to a PC and get the best of both worlds.

Because my $500 laptop from 3 years ago can only play it on Tiny render distance with tons of lag while my $300 Xbox from 7 years ago can play it perfectly fine right out of the box with a much better render distance, better graphical settings, and with the only lag being caused by network connection when I play with my friends on the other side of the country. Do I wish the Xbox version was as up to date as the PC version? Yes. Do I wish the maps where larger? Yes. Do I have enough money to build a gaming PC from the ground up? No. Does the 360 version accomplish what I want? Yes.

Maybe you don't have a PC, maybe you want an easier way to play the game on a tv, maybe you're a parent or have a brother or sister and want to do local split screen, maybe you can't figure out how to create your own server for PC muliplayer and go through the hassle of managing multiplayer save games, or don't want to pay for a dedicated server instead of simply using Xbox Live, maybe you tried the PC version and couldn't figure anything out, then tried the console version and found the in-game blueprints guide to be very useful.

I prefer PC, it's the best version, but there are a lot of reasons for playing it on console.

a lot of kids love it and putting it on console is more kid friendly

although I question if something can be truly kid friendly if it was exploding shrub monsters that sort of look like a man's unmentionables...

but I find it fun to lord my vast amounts of minecraft knowledge over the horde of mini-minecrafters (who have not discovered what a 'wiki" is) that hang about my neighborhood

The target audience is children.
Children are less likely to be PC gamers because consoles are simpler to run and use.
Console version runs fine whilst PC version is poorly optimised (from what I hear, even from some friends who play it on PC).
Children are less likely to care about mods and what not when they're happy playing it as is.
Console version is superior for local multiplayer (as in is much easier to get started).

Plus making more versions of Minecraft is a good thing, it allows for a wider audience. I also heavily doubt that people are rushing out to get a console or a PC just to play Minecraft.

I had it for PC for years but bought the console version anyway. It's a lot easier to play with friends.

My friend and I both had an xbox already, we both bought a copy for $20, and using split-screen, eight of us got to play together. That wouldn't have been possible with the PC version, since I don't think I even have eight friends with decent gaming PCs, but even if it was it would have cost ~$160 for each of us to get a copy of the game. Plus we didn't have to figure out servers or anything.

So, like every other console vs. PC discussion, console gets points for price and ease-of-use.

Why choose the console version over the PC? I didn't. I got both. They both have their merits. I've had the PC version for three years and have it loaded with the Feed the Beast modpack. I love that game so much.

But so does my wife. And she's not into all those tech and magic mods. We've always wanted to build something together, but we couldn't get another computer. But I had a PS3. And three controllers. And for only 20 bucks? Local co-op was worth it. I got the console version. Now my wife and I are living in a village, growing crops and building a huge castle. We're expanding the village to breed more villagers to get iron golems as our sentries.

But I really do miss my mods. Quarries mining by itself. Having diamond chests and a storage system that converts items to energy so all your stuff can be stored on disks. Not to mention the magic mods.

But it's still fun! And soon our daughter can play too. We can all play minecraft together. Until I build those computers I want. Then we're moving to our own server.

sitting on the sofa with a playstation controller is nicer than sitting in a chair at a desk with a mouse/keyboard or 360 controller (can you do that on the PC Minecraft?). Anyway, not everyone can use their PC on their home TVs on the sofa, so the setup is just more comfortable.
