Ok, I'm gonna say this again: There were NO tricks used. Lol.Mikodite said:Not to be belittling, but I always thought the line was recorded with the best iteration taken and transposed depending on how high or low one wanted it to go, but still, its a trick anyone with Audacity can do... without autotune.
Course, the song was still awesome, I mean, it isn't amazing for the tricks it used but awesome for how Gavin used the tricks that he did to convey th narrative/emotion he wanted conveyed in the work.
Ha, now that is a fair point. I can explain that... it's just easier to sing with an american tint as you can elongate the vowels and stuff... plus it's accessible for more people and fits with more music genres!Mikodite said:PS: you can tell if someone was using autotune, and I believe Gavin when he says he doesn't. I'm just more curious as to why he sounds North American when he sings despite being Irish.

Nice!Phlakes said:Holy Christing Christ, I've been listening to it since Gamescom and it still sends constant shivers down my spine. And I'm not kidding. It's like there's someone with cold hands massaging my spine in all the nerve clusters.
In a good way, though.

This claim is... ambitious. But, well, maybe it does. Yahtzee may have to watch his back.timelordrick said:That... Was...Amazing Gavin.

LET IT BE DECLARED, THAT WEDNESDAY ON THE ESCAPIST NO LONGER BELONS TO YAHTZEE! IT NOW BELONGS TO MIRACLE OF SOUND!
Point well taken, though I should note that overlaying multiple tracks is still a trick: a software trick that doesn't require mechanical or synthetic altering of your voice, but it is still a trick, like copypasta drumrolls. A 'trickless' tune would be pure, unaltered or processed recording with no synth. I'm not dumb enough to ask that of Gavin, in fact one can still be amazed with the song at a technical point, with the amount of mastery it takes to get cubase to do those things on to of just having a good singing voice.MiracleOfSound said:Ok, I'm gonna say this again: There were NO tricks used. That is not how I work, I sing every harmony separately, one after the other, then Cubase plays them all together. Voices get distorted when you pitch shift them and I don't want that in my music.
A trickless tune is then, by that logic, listening to someone sing in the same room as you without any amplification or musical gear. Which I'm inclined to agree with.Mikodite said:A 'trickless' tune would be pure, unaltered or processed recording with no synth. Heart & soul is all I look for when hear music, I believe if the musician puts their heart in the work you can hear it and feel it, and it feels good to hearMikodite said:I know this might sound insulting, but believe me, if I didn't believe heart and soul was poured into this I would be a lot more trolly. Tricks or no tricks there is a lot of garbage on the net, and much of it was simply shat out so the poster could say they did something. I can honestly say this ain't amoung that.
