Holy Christing Christ, I've been listening to it since Gamescom and it still sends constant shivers down my spine. And I'm not kidding. It's like there's someone with cold hands massaging my spine in all the nerve clusters.

In a good way, though.

Not to be belittling, but I always thought the line was recorded with the best iteration taken and transposed depending on how high or low one wanted it to go, but still, its a trick anyone with Audacity can do... without autotune.

Course, the song was still awesome, I mean, it isn't amazing for the tricks it used but awesome for how Gavin used the tricks that he did to convey th narrative/emotion he wanted conveyed in the work.
Ok, I'm gonna say this again: There were NO tricks used. Lol.

That is not how I work, I sing every harmony separately, one after the other, then Cubase plays them all together. Voices get distorted when you pitch shift them and I don't want that in my music.

PS: you can tell if someone was using autotune, and I believe Gavin when he says he doesn't. I'm just more curious as to why he sounds North American when he sings despite being Irish.
Ha, now that is a fair point. I can explain that... it's just easier to sing with an american tint as you can elongate the vowels and stuff... plus it's accessible for more people and fits with more music genres!

This brought up not too fond memories of the final mission on the Reaper...you have to ALL the uprgrades for your ship and and pick the right charecters or you'll get a shit ending.

me:Mass Effect what you ask is nearly impossible! it will eat up hal my life mining for enough minerals for the ship alone!
Mass Effect: then you are a ***** and you get the ***** ending! *virtual pimp slimp*

LET IT BE DECLARED, THAT WEDNESDAY ON THE ESCAPIST NO LONGER BELONS TO YAHTZEE! IT NOW BELONGS TO MIRACLE OF SOUND!
This claim is... ambitious. But, well, maybe it does. Yahtzee may have to watch his back.

Point well taken, though I should note that overlaying multiple tracks is still a trick: a software trick that doesn't require mechanical or synthetic altering of your voice, but it is still a trick, like copypasta drumrolls. A 'trickless' tune would be pure, unaltered or processed recording with no synth. I'm not dumb enough to ask that of Gavin, in fact one can still be amazed with the song at a technical point, with the amount of mastery it takes to get cubase to do those things on to of just having a good singing voice.

Then again I'm studying to be a computer programmer whose musical education doesn't go passed private vocal coaching, so maybe there is a difference in perception?

I know this might sound insulting, but believe me, if I didn't believe heart and soul was poured into this I would be a lot more trolly. Tricks or no tricks there is a lot of garbage on the net, and much of it was simply shat out so the poster could say they did something. I can honestly say this ain't amoung that.

A trickless tune is then, by that logic, listening to someone sing in the same room as you without any amplification or musical gear. Which I'm inclined to agree with.

This is the closest thing I've ever done to it, though I still threw some harmonies in at points:

Heart & soul is all I look for when hear music, I believe if the musician puts their heart in the work you can hear it and feel it, and it feels good to hear :)

I'm getting tired of this rubbish now. Seriously, if you produce music like this expect there to be major complaints when I cannot find any means on the internet to download or buy it.

Its been almost four days now! I need this song in my playlist!

Not usually a fan of Miracle of Sound. Just not my sort of music but I really really like this song. Inspired me to give the rest of your music a second chance!

Very cool as always.

I'm guessing the next song will be about Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The style.. not sure.
I guess something along the line of Voivod would fit DE:HR.
Songs like Nothingface [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MfekYuW8oM] and Fix My Heart [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA6ePtEsmy8] spring to mind.
Or maybe more like Killing Joke's The Death and Resurrection Show [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_j4Eq3ziE4].
Although I might as well include things like PitchShifter [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XN1ROySRPY] and Prong [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cl-5TrGakWY] as possible fitting things.

But well, that's all guesswork.
Would be cool if I guessed along the correct lines.

This was a great song, for reminding me of all the good feelings I had playing through ME2.

Unfortunately, and for this the song cannot be blamed, it reminded me of the parts of ME2 that inspires rage in me, notably that final boss. If ME2 could just have been the game of collecting and building up your team, it would've been perfect.

(like this song)
