I second free roam, damn, that'd be awesome...
Personally, I don't see how free roam would work very well, you being on top of skyscrapers and all. I would just like to see much more choices in how to move across the areas. Also, a more animation-driven combat system like in Assassin's creed would be neat, if there has to be fighting.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and how about fully fist-person cutscenes rather than 2d animated ones?

An actual story. Better controls. Less bloom effect. Better combat. Way longer. Free roam.

That will probably not happen.

An expanded combat system would be nice. The kung-fu in the first one was pretty cool and fun, but there's no denying that it was fundamentally shallow.

Also, a decent story would be nice. Which is to say, I don't think Rhianna Pratchett will be on (zing!).

Yes better hand to hand and maybe be able to disarm a cop without stopping or maybe an Arkham Asylum System where the fight flows very well against multiple opponents

I'd like a more consistant attitude towards combat. Often the story talked about never engaging sentries and how good runners don't need to fight. Then they'd trap you in a room where 40 guys have Ak 47s and make you engage in a wallrunning, facekicking, gun stealing frenzy to survive. I think gun running should be rewarded, not forced to spray brains all over the walls. And less BLOOM.

No combat and especially no guns.
Almost this. Certainly no guns, but the combat I think should be turned more in line with what your character is trained for.

Rather than having the brawler tendencies of the first game, something more akin to Tai Chi, mainly dodges and parries, where the combat moves serve to unbalance opponents so you can move them out of your way and go past them instead of knocking them out. It might be easier to incorporate into the flow so you don't have to stop running to deal with people in the way.

Oh yeah, and this is true of pretty much all first person games, but a longer story would be nice. I liked the way Rhianna Pratchett put the first one together.

I too thought Mirror's Edge was a good game and it's the first time I've thought that Yahtzee was quite far off in his critique of the game. I felt the first person platforming worked well, the visuals, while perhaps a bit blinding, certainly didn't ruin the thing and when done right, (and granted it would take a few tries,) the gameplay was fluid and rewarding. I can't help but think the negative stick Mirror's Edge got was due to its berevity and it's release price tag. I didn't buy it on release and I don't think it's length qualified it to be a full-price game.

But it was good and fun and something different and I hoped that they wouldn't disregard the considerable negative pres the game got an persue with it. In all the running, ducking and gunning games a free running simulator was something pretty damn cool and I'm really looking forward to Mirror's Edge 2. It'll give them the opportunity to fix some of the obvious issues in the first one because once that's done there's no reason it can't be a top-rated game.

I hope they make sure to expand on the story. Yahtzee was right when he said the world was hardly fleshed out making it hard to know your place in the world.

More moves, platform wise. Personally, I just want more Mirror's Edge in general. It's one of my favorite games. The music and art style give me flashbacks. I swear to God, I've probably played close to 100 hours in it. So... So beautiful :')

A multiplayer option would be cool. I don't want much if any shooting in the single player, but I think a tighter aiming system combined with online, parkour style action would be INSANE. An actual original fps! Imagine hanging from ledges, shooting at people below. Plus, slighting and shooting is just so damn cool.

Things that shouldn't be changed:

-art style
-setting
-first person view (that person who said to make it third person needs to have his shins kicked. The first person aspect of it is what made it so ingrosing)
-actually having to preform the action. I like AC, but holding two buttons to do all the climbing for you is kinda boring by comparison.

No railroading. Design the entire level so you can take multiple paths (and run into dead ends). No doors that just won't open when there are others that you regularly kick down. Similarly, no herding with the enemies. Don't keep spawning guards (particularly ones that don't drop weapons, or that insta kill you). Set the scene, and let things proceed organically.

Fix the combat system. Allow a disarm after you stun someone by hitting them, don't require you to wait for them to attack you. It's unrealistic and annoying. Also, have it so you can keep a pistol at all times, sling a rifle over your back, and if the guards can pistol whip you, you should be able to do it to them.

Add a stealth system. Sometimes you want to run, and sometimes you want to sneak. Something more like Thief & Deus Ex, rather than Metal Gear Solid.

Fix collision detection. If your shoulder brushes a pipe, you shouldn't stop dead. Also, learn from Brink - have the AI figure out where you intend to go by where you're looking.

Allow proper free movement. Some things look like you should be able to hang on to them, but you apparently can't, other areas you have to slowly move sideways to clamber up onto the roof because something is sort of in the way.

Actually do something with bag delivery. Have some missions where you're just delivering bags, or some other ones where you're teaming up with some other runners and just goofing around doing training. Mirror's Edge was fine having a narrow focus as a first game, but some more fleshing out would be appreciated.

How about a system that averts falling off an edge because you can't see your feet in relation to the environment? Like, if something goes wrong and you're about to fall off, your character stops at the last moment to correct their balance, like in Super Smash Bros. Brawl?

Crowds of people.
If you walk into them you move slowly, but it can be avoided.
Meh. Mirror's Edge is all about cleanliness and flow, and crowds are nothing if not dirty and flow-breaking.
I think that's the point of them, this would force the player to make a choice between out in the open or hidden in a crowd. But then again it might become a little bit too much like assassins creed.

More open enviroments that allow several paths to be taken instead of the 1-2 you'd find. Also less situations where you have no choice but to run away from a stream of gun totting AI. And maybe some customization, I'd like to change my clothes or colors, even if I'm only ever going to see that blue glove or black pants when doing certain moves. (ONLINE matches! that'd be sweet, actually playing with or against people at the same time).

Free roam, as in an open world or level for you to explore, would never work.

Don't expect it, and don't encourage it. It will never work. The reason why is pretty simple: In order to have the type of action that made Mirror's Edge so awesome, it needs to have very specific heights set up so that you can perform the moves that the game allows you to. Creating one mission with two or three paths per section full of right-height, right-placement surfaces for the player to parkour on is fine. Creating a whole block of open-world surfaces would be a nightmare of designer micromanagement that would drive budgets insane and take forever to do.

It would also look really unnatural. Think about it: when gameplay dictates environment, you end up with those 3rd person shooter levels full of chest high walls stuck everywhere. Except instead of chest-high walls, we would have perfect 2m rooftops, 5m gaps between buildings, obvious waterpipes everywhere, blah blah blah.

In other words, if it's do-able, it'll be at great cost to the developer. And even if it is done, it'll look weird and unnatural.

By the way, OP, do you have a link to a game announcement? I've been waiting for this foreverrrrrrrr.
I second this guy.

Making it free roam would be condemning the game to fail instantly.

OT: Where did you hear about this first off?

Do more of the same really. Explain why people hated the government in the first place.

If they have combat, revamp it entirely. I don't mind the hand to hand stuff, just get rid of the guns.

I don't really know. Maybe make it an Xbox live arcade game or sell it for 40$

Just thinking about the prettinest of the game gives me goosebumps.

Capture the Flag multiplayer.
You've got an idea their.

You just have to work in not having any guns at all.
It would be tough to do. Melee would need to be one hit kill against the flag carrier.

Also, players should carry the flag back to their base. Since in normal CTF you just walk over the flag to return it, the suspense of someone dropping the flag, and frantically killing people around it to prevent them from picking it up again would be lost otherwise.

I don't think there should be absolutely no combat. Just better combat. It felt pretty badass at times when Faith was fighting, and it would have been even better if there was combat that didn't break the flow of the game and that felt more natural while you were running.

-Capture the flag. This would be the one place where I would want complete free roam.

-While I love free roam, I realize the game would be too big and would seem...unnatural. Still, give me a couple roads to choose from. If I want to wander the streets, I'm gonna wander the damn streets.

-I want some people. Whistleblowers to say "We got a Runner over here!" calling the police would brighten my day. The city would also seem less...dead without them.

-A slum showing the other side of the perfect metropolis would be interesting, and would help with story.

-An actual story, thank you. Reboot, start from scratch, all new characters.

-Make the missions more interesting! Give me say, a bag holding secret documents that has to be delivered to the rebel leader or something. Also, on the mission where all you heard behind you were sirens and blue & red lights reflecting off the mirror-like buildings- that was exhilarating. More, please.

-No vents. Screw the goddamn vents. Especially when I'm being shot at.

-Multiplayer team-work. My buddy takes the high road, I go low, if he gets in trouble with the cops, he throws the bag down to me and I complete the mission. If he gets captured, I have to chase after the cops on roof. Or I could run decoy so it never happens. So many possibilites for co-op in my mind.

-Customization would be nice. I want my character to be me.

-Screw the left, right, double fist fighting. it never worked. Instead, have the guy learn... Judo or something where it's all about momentum. I want to be able to run towards a man, leap over him while grabbing him by the shoulders, throwing us both into a somersault, and end with him thrown on the ground while I keep on moving. Also, no guns- I don't wanna even use one. No freakin' machine guns that never run out of ammo, either.

-fix the damn glare and the screen tearing. It's a bit hard to have a good game when the player only sees white, runs forward and prays to God that he doesn't die.

-optional 3rd person view. That, or auto balance. I hate thinking I have one more step before I jump, and then hear the wind rush past my face and the ground rush up to embrace me.

Thank you for reading this lengthy rant.
