I've been playing FarCry3. I'm hanging back from what I think is the last mission.

Somewhere in between the heaps of leaves in my bag, beneath the compartment where I keep enough pelts to attire all the furries at a small anime cosplay expo, I have the following items:

Queen Playing Card - "A Queen of Hearts with extra hearts added. How cute."
Photo of a Dwarf - "A picture of a naked dwarf laughing and pointing at the camera. And he's not using his fingers."
Pink Handcuffs - "Why would someone place these pink and fuzzy stripper handcuffs here? Scratch that, do you really want to know?"

I started arbitrarily hoarding some useless items in games long before this... but there's no time limit on relating it to others. So! Be it Skyrim or Fallout or Dark Souls or Farcry 3, what miscellaneous items do you remember holding on to?

I remember finding the Photo of a Dwarf and the Pink Handcuffs in Far Cry 3 in the same loot chest, that was a little disturbing.

To be honest I don't hold on to many of the 'useless' sort of items in games as I get pretty insane with OCD when it comes to inventory management but I do collect all the skulls I can find in Fallout 3 and New Vegas and decorate my house with them. Also in Skyrim I keep every single book I find and store them in a cupboard in my house.

I played a City Elf in Dragon Age: Origins and I always kept that wedding ring. It just seemed like something that a person in that situation would do. A token of home and a little reminder that humans are arseholes that should be back-stabbed and gutted at the first opportunity.

In Dragon Age 2 I hung on to Aveline's shield, the one that belonged to her dead husband. It seemed a bit cold to sell her last reminder of her husband because its numbers weren't big enough. This was especially satisfying because waaay later in the game she actually acknowledged it in dialogue.

Even though I haven't played World of Warcraft for some time now, the rogue that I've played on and off since 2006 still has his original, authentic and signed certificate of thievery!

She mentions it if you see it as well. Has a go at you either way, if I remember right.

To be honest, I never really concerned myself with loot and stuff. To me, it's just "shit to sell".

I do like the names of the stuff in FarCry 3 though. It's generally good fun to see what they came up with.

EDIT: Oooh, wait, I've got one!
In Dark Souls, a generally spr srs game filled with srs bsns you can pick up one item which is literally just "Rubbish". The description? "Rubbish with no value.
Who in their right mind would bother carrying this around? Perhaps you need help."

That was funny when I first found it.

I normally keep the book about the Dragonborn on me when playing Skyrim. That is until my more OCD nature kicks in and I remove it because I hate having non-essentials in my inventories in these kinds of games.

There was a bug where she'd act like you sold it even if you hadn't, but that was fixed in a later patch. It happened to me in my first play-through and I wasn't particularly amused. Especially considering how many other decision based bugs there were when it was released.

if it's cool, i'll usually keep it. this is particularly evident in Elder Scrolls games and the like, where i'll just collect cool misc. crap and eventually decorate my house with it. even though i'm the only one that'll EVER see it

Like what, stupidly heavy Dwemer ornaments? :b

Although at the same time... those dynamo cores that the centurions drop are pretty cool. Great thing for the mantlepiece!

In Fallout 3 one of my characters only ever wore the sheriffs duster.
After witnessing Lucas Simms murder he swore to bring some kind of law to the wasteland and though he was cruel sometimes, he did what he thought was right.
The duster was his symbol and his reminder.
He also never sold the BB gun his father gave him, he just kept it in a special place at his house.

They're not necessarily misc items but they're both completely useless.

Arvak's Skull comes to mind... also the Broken Iron Sword from Ysgramor's tomb... stuff like that

Hope that's the hilt and the blade both, placed on a pedestal like a broken, ancient artifact waiting to be restored! Never heard about Arvak before, guessing that's out of the DLC right?

I keep the odd item out of sentimentality or if it was difficult to get (unique enemy armour and weapons are the most common) but I tend to sell miscellaneous crap for coin.

That said I get into game with said crap easier as finding items that someone other than an adventurer would use/have makes the world seem real.

yeah i took both pieces. i kinda wish there was a way to restore it or something... like Aragorn's Sword (Andúril) from LoTR... that'd be pretty awesome.

Arvak is a summonable Horse from the Dawnguard DLC... to get him you need to find his skull in a certain area (i won't spoil it) much more useful than a regular horse IMO since if he dies, you just summon him again. dosn't take much magic to do eaither.

Ahh alright, figured! Haven't played Dawnguard yet, but I've seen pictures and footage of some blue-glowing skeletal horse that I'm guessing must be Arvak then. And if you leave the sword broken as it is, which you kind of have to unless some mod makes it possible to reforge it, it'd like having your own shards of Narsil!

I try to dispose of any useless items I can. Preferably by selling them.
In Fallout 3, I was the Wasteland's tobacco industry, because cigarettes had great weight/value ratio.
In Skyrim, I store all the books I can find in my house.

In games that don't require me to prioritise what I should carry too much, because I'm a bit funny, I'd carry around food I'd think or looks tasty, things that are shiny/really expensive (I carried around 5 gold ingots at almost all times in Skyrim), treasure/rare items/anything that can only be found ONCE in a game. Though I can think of times where I haven't cared about those sorts of things.

In Dragon's Dogma (awesome game, check it out) I don't want to drop the first set of clothes you ever had. I just think I should keep them as a memento of that dragon poking your heart out at the very start. That made me surprisingly squemish when I first saw it thinking about it now.

Maybe at the end of the game you can build them into the Legendary Fisherman Armour of the Dragon Slaying Badass Warrior Adventurer Person.

Oh and I have to have a cowboy hat on at all times in Fallout NV, hopefully with some cool glasses on as well. I like the random Traits in that game. The one that raises your Perception just for having some glasses on is a nice addition. Sure you lose Perception if you don't have glasses on then but that's a non-issue for me :3

Fallout 3. Garden gnomes. Rock-It-Launcher. Need I say more?

Oh, and teddy bears.

Oh, and Nuka Cola trucks.

Oh, and plungers.

I've got one of each gold, silver and bronze coins always on my person in Dark Souls. Also a knuckle that I've got no idea what it does.

In Fallout 3 I collected all the pre-war money I could and piled it into my Megaton house.
