So I just managed to finish the Dead Money DLC for Fallout New Vegas(I know I'm really late to the game) and my god that was hands down some of the most agonizing and frustrating series of missions I have ever done. It really brought my enjoyment of the game to a crushing standstill for at least the moment anyway. How did they think the combination of taking away all your gear + exploding collars + poisonous gas + annoying enemies made a good addition to the game?
Anyway I made this topic to rant a bit and to ask if there was a level or mission or whole chunk of a game that either took away your enjoyment of the game or made you really fucking hate it?

To it's credit I did like the characters and the overall story it was just the whole seeing your characters head get blown off for an asinine reason and shooting the same guy from my bloody valentine for about a hundred times that got to me.

The DLC to Bioshock infinite, especially the part with the rebel leader being a good gal all along, completely ruined it for me.
I kinda' liked that, because it was in keeping with her character. She was a freedom fighter, not a straight up murderer going around shanking children to teach their dead parents a lesson. The fact Daisy tried to kill the kid kinda' ruined her character for me, and I was glad the DLC fixed it.

I just encountered my first set of zombies in Divinity: Original Sin.

For the uninitiated, zombies are healed by poison. Dealing physical damage to a zombie has them spill poison on the ground that poisons them (the status acts like a HoT because, you know, zombies), then continues to heal them as they walk in it.

That just feels...unfair, and this is coming from a Dark Souls veteran when it comes to difficulty. They just made the game harder for no good reason.

I haven't played it in a while, but can't you set fire to the poison to make it explode? Or something along that effect.

OT: The flying monster in shadow of the colossus. Holy hell that was horrible. It was good for variety, but man was that unenjoyable.

Just use that newly formed poisonous gas to blow the shit out of them with fire. If you don't have a fire mage you can use grenades or even use a candle from your inventory and throw it into the poisonous gas. At least I'm pretty sure that works. I wouldn't recommend engaging them in melee combat.

I can nominate the following:

-Tiberian Twilight is a lacklustre game, and the moment that solidifed that fact was in the GDI campaign, where you need to escort civilians out of a city. The gameplay is slow, and the trucks just keep coming, and it reiterates how useless the support loadout is unless you're playing multiplayer, so I gave up then and there.

-There's a moment in Dead Space where you need to attach a beacon onto an asteroid, launch it, and launch back off before you're carved up. Took me more times than I can count to succeed, and only did so by cheating (i.e. launching off before Isaac's animation could complete itself).

-Baal in Diablo II. Never been able to beat him. I was just throwing myself at him over and over, and eventually just gave up.

-There's a level in the first Gears of War that involves you planting the resonator. To do so you have to make your way along a walkway, while therons shoot at you with torque bows, basically granting them one hit kills. If you die, you don't respawn on the walkway, but at the imulsion pit, where the same walking cutscene plays over, and over, and over, and...

-The High Charity level in Halo 3. I actually like fighting the Flood most of the time, but bloody hell that level was a slog.

-Act II in Path of Exile. It was here that I gave up, as the game just devolved into constant monotony of clicking on enemies to make them die. Yes, I get that's how ARPGs work, but this one just became too tedious to continue.

Wut. How can you not like Point Lookout?! It had atmosphere, it had a whole new area, it had new side quests, and it had ATMOSPHERE! Ahem...It...it was a good...I enjoyed it immensely.

OT: My favorite PS2 shooter, 007 Nightfire, had a level that I always skipped. It was the level where you had to infiltrate this industrial zone, and at one point, use the rarely implemented mechanic of hanging and moving. It's not only super slow and stiff, the animation locks you in for longer than it should. So there's this really long wire, and there are respawning snipers. Good fucking luck getting over to the other side.
I beat it like, twice, and now I always just skip over it. I'm sure there's a spot in RE4, I just can't quite remember right now.

Only one that comes to mind right away is the hospital stealth mission in Hotline Miami. Ok the mission itself is not that long, and once you know the route through it and what to look out for it's actually kinda easy. But man did it kill me. Not because it was a stealth mission, but mostly because it just broke up the whole pace of the game really badly. You were running and gunning like a bat out of hell, then it hits a brick wall. And suddenly you have no means of attack and need to crawl around. Did not suit the game at all. Was merely relieved to get thru it, stupid level.

Edit: Just since we're talking about it, I didn't try Dead Money for those reasons I heard alone. I was only going to try one DLC, and I settled on Old World Blues. Which started off wicked and weird, then dragged it's feet through the middle (probly because I had maxed out all the skills BESIDES the ones you needed there), and then really picked up towards the end. Enjoyed the ramp up in challenge, and the change of scenery. God I miss New Vegas, and wished F4 was more like it in so many ways...

Did you like the BAR [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Automatic_rifle]?

OT: GTA: Vice City - those timed boating missions after you buy the boatyard. Rrrgh. Missing a single checkpoint would mean you failed it, but you'd have to go all the way back to the boatyard (or reload a saved game) to have another go.

Luckily, nothing could make me hate such a game for long.

I liked Dead Money. Not only because of the story and characters but also because of the challenge. It added to the atmosphere and horror. I guess I got luckier than 90% of everyone else.

As for your question, I always let out a large groan whenever I have to go through the Demon Ruins in Dark Souls, for some reason.

I really, really hated Point Lookout's difficulty. Poorly-armed, lightly-armored tribal savages and irradiated hillbillies should not pack truckloads of AP damage and health. I swear, a small pack of them could easily wipe out all of the super mutants in DC.

I had one as auxiliary for when the Holo-Rifle ran out. Had a dedicated spear for ripping open Ghost People. Had alot of grenades from all of Dean's traps too. I horde stuff, man.

I won't say that it's perfect. The bomb collars do get to be a pain. For my money, there are worse things. Like, this didn't ruin NV for me, but I didn't like the Tunnelers. They forced you to go through these areas with 'em twice, not counting a few other minor encounters. There's a fundamental problem with them. Bethesda tried too hard. They wanted to make something tougher than Deathclaws, but...they're gremlins. They're small, they hate light, and apparently they breed like hell. By no means should they be 'the next great menace', according to Ulysses. Didn't like him either. This didn't ruin the game for me, but these were wrong decisions.

The Fade in Dragon Age: Origins.

Novel enough the first time you play it, but an absolute chore after that to replay.

Oh I got one. The Fade part in Dragon Age: Inquisition where you have to choose between Alistair or Hawke. As someone who played the shit out of both DA 1 and 2, I couldn't do it. I fucked Alistair wild as a whispy Elf archer, and Merril was my Tali before Tali.

Speaking of...Virmire. Fuck that. Ashley and Kaidan were both badasses. Why couldn't I sacrifice I dunno...Wrex. Or Garrus. Fuck those guys.

Meh, I've only played Inquisition once and for the game I did Alistair was king and so not part of that scene, instead it was some random forgettable french guy in his place who died just like he lived; forgettably. Kinda ruined the whole drama of the moment really.

Pfft. Wrex is the only one who ever did anything significant to the plot. Garrus was just there to say the throw-away lines cut from Shepard's dialogue and to be a romance option for the 2nd game that wasn't a lesbian.
