Also, try Valkyrie Sky. It's a MMOSHMUP. Very playable in single player or with coop. Interesting classes including more melee-ish classes and more traditional "stay as far back as possible and shoot" like you're used to form a SHMUP like R-Type, Raiden, Gradius, etc. Each class has specific abilties including summoning pets, aoe attacks, side attacks, back attacks, focused damage, etc. It's really not that bad, it's not the most polished game, but the gameplay itself is fun and exciting. If anything, it fails more at being an MMO than being a SHMUP, so I find it enjoyable.

Valkyrie Sky was shut down last December.

Another plug for vindictus (and a funny vid)

Well, downloading Vindictus now. I kind of want to be Fiona, but it seems as though Lann is more useful. (Pretty much everyone here mentioned that speed is most important, and Fiona's shield has to be repaired often, I guess...)

Also that armor can break off, I guess, so having your entire gimmick being a strong defense is kind of undermined when your defense can be stripped from you, unlike Lann, who seems to be more dodge-centric.

Then again, if the armor is coming off anyway, I'd rather be forced to stare at a woman's ass for however long it takes to get the armor repaired than some guy's ass.

COD is a twitch shooter. you need 0 none nada tactics. I have over 100 FPS games in my library. i know how they work and I know how to use tactics verses noobing it. COD is noob. it is twitch fps shooter as well. Quake did it better than COD*** and it had the same gamestyle for multiplayer. OP weapon, fastest reaction time. COD multiplayer is twitch shooter, no teamwork, no tactics needed. its mindless run and gun, spray and pray. frag em stupidity. the SP is ofcourse.. shooter on rails. thats COD and I have played/own all but BLOPS. I will not buy another ever again. But as I was stating you expect COD speed by your own admission and no MMO will ever have that.

That's kind of the point. A weapon can't really be overpowered in a true twitch shooter because they all kill you pretty much the same.

Also, COD isn't a twitch shooter. I can't name a single twitch shooter on a console. Counter-Strike is a twitch shooter. Alliance Valiant Arms is a twitch shooter. Halo is the exact opposite of a twitch shooter, and COD isn't a twitch shooter either.

Edit: And...no. If you wish to point out specifically where I said 'I WANT COD AS AN MMORPG' in the opening post, please do it.

It's not an mmo, it's a multiplayer only shooter. It just happens to host more than the standard 8 vs 8 players. Sure, there's a little more to it than that, but not much.

Age of Conan was good... for PVP alone. Intense large scale battles, crazy duels, and a good combo system for melee characters that forced you to keep moving and attacking.

Then it just got bogged down with pve and the grind for fun mentality and it became poo poo. Not worth playing anymore. If you aren't into pvp then you will hate it indefinitely. The pve was mind numbing from the start but the ruse of random pvp hilarity was fantastical.

other than that mmos are just not worth paying monthly for something that at its core is not fun. I am more than 200% sure that the fun I had playing AGE OF CONAN was a figment of my imagination as well. If I understand you correctly, you're saying all twitch shooters have no tactics and teamwork? I disagree. I have a couple of examples from the Unreal Tournament series.

Unreal Tournament - CTF: Facing Worlds. Every time I grab the flag I try to get the Redeemer on my way out and fire it at the enemy's base entrance to kill any immediate pursuers. Friendly snipers on our tower cover the rest of my retreat.

Unreal Tournament 2004 - Any map with the Leviathan. The Leviathan is the game's most powerful vehicle, but without any support it's easily destroyed because everyone knows to shoot it first.

It is a massively multiplayer first-person shooter. It hosts 256 players per match organized by server with players in dedicated role-based factions. MMOs do not have to be RPGs, they have to be massively multiplayer.
