I don't play MMOs anymore, but it seems like the way to go is support characters (ie crowd control, debuffers.) They are usually less popular but crucial, so that you have an easier time finding a party to grind/raid with. Of course, the most fun are the frontline classes, the ones that get in close and personal with the monsters.
I've noticed that there are quite a lot of healers on here.

Most of the time I play a Tank. That's because I like to explore MMO worlds for myself and only stick to parties when I simply can't get any further.
I think 'Guild Wars' and 'Final Fantasy XI' are the only exceptions, being a Mage/Ranger in the first and a Red Mage in the latter.

i love ranged classes. especially the hunter. but i haven´t manned myself together to actually level one up for real.
i play several other roles. i have an enhancement shaman and a Death knight for the melee. i have healer off-specs for my druid and priest. etc.
im pretty much an all-rounder when you dont count the tank.

I don't know which category I fall into. I always pick the ranged attack class that can stand out of harm's way flicking arrows at people without having to rely on MP/SP as much as casters.

Tank - had both 70 warrior and 70 mage on WoW during TBC period. Could NEVER get a group for dungeons with the mage since like 80% of the server was dps. Although I did like tanking since it was an important role and required you to know what you were doing and made you feel responsible for protecting your party members from boss ***** slaps.

First of all, I have to get this out of the way. Quit calling the tank a 'tanker'. It's just plain stupid. They're called tanks, not tankers. Just in case you want to argue that someone who heals is called a 'healER' and someone who DPSs is a 'DPSer', don't. That doesn't even make sense. Just call the tank a tank, and not a tanker... it's a pet peeve.
So anyway, I hate being the tank. The role I like playing most is DPSer, because it's least strain and most fun. Healing can be fun, but it can be incredibly boring as well.
