MOBA players need to chill

Pretty much what I meant to say. I was playing for about 30 minutes when I can't take it anymore.

My friend and I joined the lowest skill level game, turns out it was full of people creating new accounts just to "pwn scrubs".

I got called a "n00b" or "feeder" every time I die (and that's 6, gentlemen, how exceptionally horrible).

In the end I quit, not because our team couldn't possibly win, but the fact that my teammates were some of the worst-manner people out there.

My friend stayed in the game though, and probably took 5 times the punishment I took, because leaving the game was bad etiquette! I actually feel sorry for him.

What will we do to stop this nonsense?

It won't stop. MOBAs attract this kind of attention because they're competitive, a feeder/newb/noob/whatever on one team can be worse than dead weight and they require a significant time investment (mostly. Dunno about LoL or HoN, but DotA had games generally ranging from 30-60 minutes for me, and I was at the very very unprofessional level).

DotA2 is not likely to change this any significant amount.

Shame, since the community of LoL is what's stopping me from playing a genre I otherwise quite enjoy.

MOBAs have probably one of the worst communities in video games. Best, and only, thing you can do is to ignore the brats as much as you can. Don't try to fight back or "reason" with them...just ignore them.

Make it so that every time someone says a 'banned' word ('n00b' for instance), their information gets sent to an agency that hunts them down and exterminates them.

It is the only way.

Leave them to their own sandbox. I haven't touched those styles of games, and I don't plan to.

Like Online shooters, I would rather play with friends ONLY as I know that they will be more forgiving when I screw things up as the goal is to have fun.

Going into a competitive game is where things go straight to prepubescent hell. (Though I haven't heard about any foul mouthed Starcraft players... yet)

Dota games are notoriously good for attracting some of the worst scum humanity has to offer, aka, lots of tweens with filthy mouths (fingers?).

I experienced more or less the same while I was playing Heroes of Newerth, now I don't even dare to touch that game with a 10ft pole.

Ya that won't happen.

The problem are these games themselves, the setup is made so the balance of power hangs on the entire team, if you suck then your team cannot make up for it, they will be forced to suffer until the end of the match.

I didn't bother telling moderators that _____ player said the "banned" words. Mostly because they probably receive so many of those messages they won't care anymore.

If I was to report anyone that said anything offensive in the 3 or 4 games I've played, at least half of them will be reported.

now i understand that some players are dicks(trust me had the same thing happen to me) heres what you do everytime someing like that happens ignore chat and work on your play after a bit they will do one of two things:
A) surender cause they dont want to play with the "noob" anymore
or
B) see your actually doing better then them and STFU
just give it time and ignore people you dislike after the game:) oh and friend people you like and play with them.

The game is pretty much designed to make people rage, which IS a bad thing for people playing with randoms (play with 4 people when starting out if you're new, or you will regret it).

Maybe if you play with a veteran, he can defend you then.

But to be honest despite the game being designed like this, it makes a well played game EXTREMELY satisfying, and a sense of unstoppableness if you're the one who is fed.

ya i agree MOBA games usually have the WORST community. but it mainly because of how the game works. the game is sooo focused on teamwork and the timing of teammates that when one guy messes up all hell breaks loose. in my opinion LOL has the "best" community for a MOBA game ive seen, but youll never be able to avoid all the pricks.

Sticks and stones my boy...
Yep. I used to respond to these threads with "Well what did you expect, it's a MOBA." Then I actually started playing online, instead of just at LAN parties. How do people who are ostensibly regular online gamers even get offended by that crap? There's no voice chat, so all of the "abuse" involves people who don't know how to spell throwing out comically bad insults. And you don't even see it in every match; it seems like 99% of the players either don't trash talk at all, or they do, but it's the kind of trash talk you see in /any/ online game. The other 1% are apparently 12 years old and have only recently learned how to swear.

Besides, it's text based. Ever since voice chat was introduced, I've completely stopped paying attention to the chat logs in games. I mean, I look at them from time to time, but I have to make a conscious effort /not/ to tune them out. How much of an effort do the rest of you have to make to ignore them?

The way I work with the people who start to trash talk or I just stop giving a shit while playing is that I spend the time to actually correct their grammar and spelling mistakes. Its hilarious to see them start throwing more and more insults out only to have them corrected over and over again. My friend wonders how I have the patience to do it.

MOBA is a game style similar to an RTS since it was created first as a mod for Warcraft 3 MOBA stands for Massively Online Battle Arena.

If it's LOL you're playing, don't sweat the insults and shit. As a matter of fact, if it helps, you can be a dick back. As long as you don't say anything racial, spam obscenities, or constantly throw the game, you won't get banned. It's a great game, and if you show you're a bigger dick, the other dicks start to hide in their shells. LoL is a great game, just remember "sticks and stones".

You guys are the ones that need to chill. "Scum of the earth", "should be exterminated"? You're talking like these people are committing genocide, instead of being punks.

Tiresome, yes. But nothing else.
