I know there's already similar topics, but I'm looking for more in-depth hypothetical discussion about the reality of experiencing a black hole & how it would appear.

So if CERN's large Hadron Collider does actually create a black hole, what do you think would happen.

Would the earth be sucked into it so quickly that we wouldn't be aware of it?

Would it start of small, enveloping the immediate area around CERN and slowly envelope the rest of the world or would it remain pretty much stationary & the rest of the world get drawn into it?

Would there be massive meteorological changes, seismic activity & eruptions as the earth's crust & geography distorts?

How long would this take, would there be news reports round the world of it happening in Switzerland, followed by mass panic & rioting on the streets, with apocalyptic cults springing up & mass suicides of people attempting to avoid dying in the black hole?

What would be the actual experience of it happening, would we quickly be sucked into oblivion, or would it be a more drawn out process, with time distorting and the fabric of reality stretching as buildings & everything else is drawn slolwy into it?

What would be the personal reality of getting sucked into a black hole? Would you get sucked through the air like in a hurricane or would you remain grounded, but with everything stretching & distorting?

Would it hurt, like being stretched & torn apart, or would you be oblivious as the entire fabric of reality is also drawn into it?

What would you do? Would you join the looters & go ape shit, attempt to consume as much drugs & alcohol as possible, or attempt to have as much sex as possible so you end (hopfully) in exctasy?

Would you kill yourself before it happened or would you want to experience the unique opportunity?

Do you think animals would notice something wrong first, with mass migration of birds & domestic animals going mental?

Do you think some governments already have a contingency plan in place & we'd see rockets fleeing to the Moon & Mars (actually they'd probably have to a lot further) to escape the black hole & to start colonies to continue the human race, while the rest of use are left to die.

Sorry if this appears like a lot of Jibba-Jabber, I was just drinking & thinking about the hypothetical reality of it & wondered what it would be like.

All opinions would be good & feel free to add you own questions & view points on what you think would happen.

Instant death. "Excuse me, Dr. Scientist? Yeah, the collider seems to be malfunctio-" FWZAP. No more world.

This has been discussed in the news thread. ;)

But, I think it'll be a snowball effect. As the black hole consumes more mass, it gains more gravity, so consumes mass at a faster rate, so it gains more gravity.

I was reading an interview with one of the LHC scientist's, apparently in the unlikely event a black hole is created it will be a micro black hole and will disappear due to hawking radiation, he goes on to say even if it doesn't disappear it wouldn't be large enough to draw matter in.

Yup. I found an article at one point (I should dig that back up) that proves black holes will not be dangerous. They will dissappear almost as fast as they appear and nothing bad will happen. End of story.

Well I hope it is the Higgs Boson so that I don't have to relearn Physics without it, but I'm siding with you for headcrabs.

The funny thing is that if a bunch of micro black holes start radiating like mad, then a lot of people are going to bite the dust.

EDIT: At least they'll prove Hawking Radiation exists.

Well I for one would go out and run around naked calling people that I don't like "**** Gargling Tossers" and pissing on my Tutors house, but all of you probably don't share my philosophy, so I'll stop describing THAT. I would also want to be alive for the experience, I mean, nobody else has ever experienced it, who knows what it's like?

But for the record, we were basically destroying ourselves anyway, and if this thing means that we may more fully understand the universe then I say go for it.

Technically, it would hurt like hell. Like being put through a fucking grinder(think of what the Locusts in GoW feel when chainsawed).

We'd be ripped apart in seconds and turned into quantum fucking foam. The difference in gravity in our lower bodies from the top of our heads would be way too great, we'd be turned into human spaghetti. At least that's what happens to particles that go near that fucking hole.

So yeah, it wouldn't feel nice.

Uhh, even if it were a black hole, as stated prior its only a 'micro-black hole', and to further this point along, if you know anything about black holes, stars, gravity, ect there is no point to being 'afraid' we'll all die when they turn it on!

Heres a little 'fact'.

Black Holes, are created when a massive stars mass becomes so great, it collapses in on its self.

The 'micro-black' holes we are talking about here, are 'black holes' where matter has collapsed in on its self, however, it doesn't have ANYWHERE NEAR the same mass as a 'normal' black hole. Quite simply its mass if it could be 'measured' would be composed of only a few atoms! Its mass would be so tiny it couldn't 'suck' anything into it, and even if it could, theres no 'proof' that it would 'grow' let alone consume earth. Asside from all this, these micro-black holes (which already pop-in-and-out of existance all the time) will 'disipate' or disapear, within nanoseconds of coming into existance.

I'd be more afraid of a Titanium Toilet Seat from a failing russian satalite entering earths atmosphere, hitting a tree, and said tree pile drives me into the ground, then I would be of htis 'black hole'.

This is exciting! It makes me think about the failed experiment in Half-Life 1 where some JACKED UP stuff happens!

Here comes the 7 hour war.
