That not to say that my way of life is better, but judged better by others. As I said, I was ridiculed and bullied by the way I used to look. I didn?t modernize to stop this, I did so because I think my life is better this way. I haven?t changed every aspect of myself, Still love anime and Manga, watch WWE religiously
Oddly enough I used to watch more of Vince's stuff.
Then I became a hardcore smart mark/puro fan.
But yeah, my problem was never being bullied.
That stopped around 4th grade when all of a sudden the kids around me became decent enough people.
I think she brought it up because I'm not acting like many of the other teenagers in the area, wearing fancy shirts and driving around in fast cars with their girlfriends. Nothing wrong with that, they're decent guys anyway. I'm just not interested in doing that stuff. Seeing bland movies with people and their couples. Driving off wherever to just talk about bland stuff. I like my obscure, hard to understand, stuff. It's what I'm used to.
Besides I could be studying some matches like Destroyer vs. Mascaras, or Dean vs. Joe Malenko, or maybe even Villano Tercero vs. Atlantis.
I have a full play list tonight...

Never really encountered this problem. I usually try to look my best so I can have pride in my self-appearance.

No, I usually dressed in what is considered hip. I don't mean to, I buy shirts I like and I buy jeans I like and I feel better when I look my best.

Thats probably just me.
To be fair you have to go out of your way to buy clothes that aren't hip anyway, so most people who aren't dressed 'hiply' are poor(no offense), elitist or weeaboo scenesters :)

That said I still want a checkered suit :p
I have to disagree a bit. I wear pajama pants 95% of the time. They are comfy, durable and I don't have to go out of my way to find them. My thought is: if there's no dress code, why wouldn't I wear the most comfortable thing I own?
Aren't pajama pants way too thin though? And I'd say just get track pants, they're just as comfy, warmer and often are even more comfortable as well :) But yeah aside from that or going to school in a bathrobe you do need to go out of your way to be very unhip :)

I sort of have that...but I get told to dress more manly. On a regular basis. Seriously, it gets annoying. Especially since the idea of 'manly' clothes around the people I know is just generic brand-name crap (it's a fucking ocean of Nike, Adidas, Puma and all that crap).

I just refuse point blank. Call me crazy, but I like my current dress sense. I wouldn't have stuck with it so long if I was eager to bow to the apparentlly prevalent taste consensus.

At 33 I'm delighted that I'm old enough to never again worry about being "hip", because at my age "hip" means "creepy old dude."

Im not hip. Jeans & T shirt. 60/70s music (The Rolling Stones, Queen, David Bowie, etc). I don't own a PS3 or Xbox360 and most likily never will. I have a WII that never gets used. I don't like AFL (Australian Football), Soccer (Football), Rugby etc. I don't watch any sport. I do enjoy playing field hockey (on grass). Which I haven't play in about 2 years. I rarly go out. Only with one friend of my few friends. Normally we just LAN.

I haven't even play major gaming series like DeadSpace, Starcraft, Fable, Gears of War, God of War, Halo etc. You get the point. Sure I have played series like Half Life, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Assassins creed. I have never play all or even most of the games in thoughs series.

I would say I'm very Unhip. But I don't care. I'm happy with how I am.

I guess my interests are kinda timeless (martial arts, track and field athletics and video games) and my style of clothing is neither hip nor unhip, I just see what I like and buy it if it's not too expensive.

To be honest, I don't understand people who buy stuff just because it's fashionable, you should go for the clothes that fit you the most and make you feel comfortable and good about yourself. If the clothes you wear just happen to be hip at the time, then that's just coincidence.

But don't peg yourself as a goth, emo, gangster, metalhead or whatever. That only limits your choice most of the time (unless it happens to be just the style that you identify with the most). Just try on stuff that you think looks cool and you might even be complimented about your style. :)

But that's just my two cents.

Mainstream culture is a load of ass. It's just a load of people that lack their own identity so they worship anything that gets labelled as "popular", and then they have the nerve to shun people that think otherwise and tell everyone to get a life >.>

You can go out looking completely ridiculous with rainbows all over your face if that floats your boat, but don't just do it because it's "popular".

I tend to not pay attention to what's "in" and just listen to/wear whatever sounds good/is comfortable. My family constantly buys me brand-name cloths for birthdays but they usually end up getting "accidentally" lost a few weeks later. I've noticed that brand name cloths are also itchy as hell, which is an incentive to not be in style.

I'm not exactly seen as hip jeans, T-Shirt and a hair cut every 6 months is all I need. The problem with trying to be hip is that once you make changes to try and be more hip you get even more grief than before because now you're trying to be hip.

I remember one time my hair wouldn't go down at the back so I put in a tiny bit of mousse to keep it down and when I got to school someone said sarcastically "oh, look at you trying to be all stylish".

I'll stick with how I am, thanks.

Ok so, I'm not a very hip guy. I don't usually like trendy things or teenage things, really.
So my mom and I were talking about socializing and junk, when she basically started begging me to be hip. "Do your hair up more stylish. Dress a little more current. Stop blasting your Stock Aitken Waterman in your car." I don't mind this advice much, but it's just not doable for me!
I like being out of date and unhip! I'm content listening to my terrible "Hit Machine" Pop, and My Post Punk stuff, and my 90's Rap, and my Anime OST's!
I love watching 80's 90's anime!
I couldn't imagine wearing anything but my usual Sweater/Pants combo!
Anyone else here have this same problem or just in love with being away from the current?
Any other STW listeners here?
I'd like to think she was just saying this because she's worried about you fitting in. But my advise, just ignore it. Wear what you want, you have to spend more time with yourself then anyone else does and if you#re unhappy all the time then what's the point?

I personally dislike people having short hair with gel.

Last time I was in the bus and I was the only dude out of like 20 people who didnt use hairgel. They all did it practicly the same too.

If being "hip" means being bland and unorginal I rather not be hip.

Wear a freaking shirt once in a while and you are good to go. Why the ass should you conform? Ask your mom why she is so scared of individual thinking.

That said, you belong to a species of pack-animals, if you are acting anti-social, find a pack of freaks like yourself to join, at least that will shut her up.

If you're driving a car and your mom still doesn't think you've found who you are, then I think it's more of a problem with your mom than you. Really, that is the sort of thing the mother of a middle schooler worries about. Not a driving young adult. It seems to me she wants you to change for her benefit rather than yours.

I hate rap and wiggers, Jersey Shore and hair gel and to a lesser extent, I find that American Eagle stuff to look rather fruity. Don't even get me started on the hot-topic "non-conformists."

Plus I prefer my shirts and pants to have pockets. Just one or two on the shirt but like 4 minimum on pants. To my knowledge that went out of style with the mullet. As for music, everything has potential, but I gravitate to 70s rock and hard-techno(psy-trance, etc.)

Which is kind of weird. Fortunately most people aren't too uptight, or at least loud about it.
